Hey guys.

So, I'm running Lion on my 4,1 Macbook, 2.1GHz CPU, 6GB memory, SSD... etc. And of course the lame GMA X3100 integrated graphics.

On my 2004 Power Mac running Leopard, I recently went and killed every bit of eye candy, user interface animations, etc, that I could. Like stopping window opening animations, dock bouncing... and it's amazing how much performance stepped up.

I've done the same to the Macbook as much as I can, using Onyx and the Secrets preference pane - but I can't turn off enough. It's sucks because the GPU is so mediocre that even the spinning beach ball of death is running at a less-than-totally smooth framerate. Hell my 466MHz G4 tower with Leopard can do that smoothly.

Worst example, Quicktime X, going to full screen. Or also, switching spaces in Mission Control. You get a slow animation that, also laggy with Quicktime X, that basically means you can't do anything with your system because it's still running a pretty animation that serves no use.

So yeah, share your tips for turning off as much extraneous Lion eye candy you can :)

You can click anywhere on the scroll bar background and it will scroll to that point. I know it's hard, try it though, you might like it.

Show me an operating system that is not Windows that has iTunes.

The scrollbars have no buttons. They are unusable.

Windows has scrollbars with buttons. I don't understand why you would say other than windows when clearly it is the only OS that has scrollbar buttons and has support for iTunes.
