iPod Powerbook not recognizing iPod Shuffle??

My brother wanted to connect his iPod Shuffle to my Powerbook to put some files on it. For some reason, my powerbook is not recognizing it at all. It's not even showing up in the finder. I tried plugging it in multiple times. I tried restarting, and still no success.

I tried opening software updater, because I believe it needs a software update and/or restore, still no luck. Opened iTunes... nope.

What can I do? What kind of an iPod is not recognized by a mac!

update: I tried connecting to my freinds HP Notebook, and a message came up saying it could not connect to the device because it is faulty... Something like that.

Anyway, I submitted a service request to Apple.

If the HP and your Mac both aren't seeing it, it's most likely a problem with the shuffle. Have your friend connect it back to his original computer, and reformat it with the latest iPod Updater at http://www.apple.com/ipod/download
