Most Important Quality Of A New Machine-Price...Performance...Form Factor

The most important factor is a careful consideration of NEED vs WANT.
As long as the system you buy today will hold you over the next 2-3 years
with a reasonable investment, you've done well.
A desktop will always out perform a laptop for much less money.
A tower is still the the most expandable and yields the greatest performance.
Even so, a refurbed 12" iBook for $799 could serve you well if your needs are simple and keep you going at a very limited expense.
This is a major transition period in the industry, so I would buy conservative as possible to get the job done.

I guess this is sort of a stealth poll.
What is everyone looking for in a mac? A cheap machine to run OSX and some iLife Apps, a smoking Powermac tower with all the expandability or form,
a Laptop even though that person might not need it 100%. Or the best of both worlds(or worst) the iMac.

It all depends on what you expect from your system and the system requirements of you primary working application.
Are you gaming, surfing, chatting and e-mailing or
running professional film production in Final Cut Studio?
Is your system a tool or a toy or both?
In most cases, an Apple computer is used to generate income.
One machine may be perfect in an office environment, but totally unacceptable running intensive audio video applications.
The buyers budget also matters.
There's no point in buying a maxed out G5 Quad if doing so
puts you so deep in the hole that you can't afford your primary
Pro application software and any related hardware.
So the most important quality depends on the users needs.

that's ok. All mac users have already placed aesthetics above anything else. Whether it's the aesthetics of the casing, or aesthetics of the operating system. It's a lot more aesthetically pleasing than a Windows machine.
So that aside, I think price and performance are obviously the most important

Performance and form.
I have a powerbook now because the ibook was underpowered (im a new yorker, i hate waiting), but the new MBP is overpowered for my purposes (not pro).
The next redesigned apple laptop might be on my lap some time, but as my sig says, i HATE old designs. My current powerbook is almost fast enough (i play alot of games) so i don't need 4x faster. My next laptop will be based off of software and design, its hard to go downhill from my computer.
