View Full Version : Presonus Firebox issues

G'day,
I just connected the Firebox to my G5 (firewire only, no power) and then ran 1/4" connector cables to my Behringer B2031A speakers.
Headphones don't get any sound out of the Firebox jack,
And the speakers have a hum that's more than any of us could bare!
Is it the unbalanced 1/4" plugs perhaps?
Hope someone can help.

The firebox came from here:
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Recording/Computer/Hardware?sku=184133&src=3SOSWXXA&c_tid=topseller
And appears to be selling brand new, but the receipt says " This item may have minor cosmetic flaws or may be slightly experienced."
I have a feeling it could be broken too. It does boot up correctly, and the speakers do sound good (above the hum)

I'm inclined to think that the lack of headphone output and the speaker hum are somehow related, and it may be that you have a wiring/grounding issue inside the box itself. It sounds like you bought a reconditioned unit (correct?), so the problems you're having may have been the reason it was returned to begin with. I'd send it back.

i agree, send it back. and the sooner you contact them, the better.
i had to return something this week, and i'm bringing it up so i can give props to Full Compass for handling it so well. it was only a $30 item, but when it showed up, a rack ear was bent.
i immediately sent an email to my sales guy, then i left the house. when i got back, i found he'd emailed me back only 10 minutes later, telling me the replacement was already on its way and that a UPS return label was be shipped with it.
i got the replacement the next day, boxed up the old and dropped it off at my neighborhood UPS store.
no hassle at all. for a $30 item. kudos to Full Compass. i hope MF treats you as well.

MF is pretty good about customer service. When I bought my Les Paul, they actually called me a week later to see how I liked it...pretty cool.
Anyway, if you send the Presonus thing back, you might consider getting this instead:

A similar product, in your price range. M-Audio has a good reputation, too.

Thanks everyone. Turns out it was returned by the last purchaser too.
I suppose the shop doesn't have time to test returned products...

that's no excuse, that's crap. you're well within your right to raise a stink, their lack of caring about their customers has inconvenienced you.
