I have been thinking about getting myself Jeffrey Zeldman's (www.zeldman.com) book designing with web standards (http://www.zeldman.com/dwws/) for quite a while now.
Yesterday, after checking out where I could get it here in Copenhagen, I decided to go to the IT University bookshop (40 mins each way, public transport). I got off of the bus out there and started walking towards where I thought it should be. However it wasn't there.
After having walked for about 10 mins, I found myself in the middle of a huge building site, ankle-deep in mud. Bollocks:( !! I was lost. There was only one way out of this. I had to climb over the perimeter fence. RRRRIIIIIPPPP! There go my jeans! But I was out!
When I eventually reached civilisation, I managed to get directions. Which sent me all the way around the block again and guess what.....I had walked right past it on my way into the building site.
Anyway, when I got into the bookshop it was amazing. Shelf upon shelf of Web development and design books. In English, no less!!! I could have spent soooo much money. After much browsing I decided on three books: designing with web standards (http://www.zeldman.com/dwws/), understanding color (http://eu.wiley.com/WileyCDA/WileyTitle/productCd-0471715085.html), Professional CSS (http://www.wrox.com/WileyCDA/WroxTitle/productCd-0764588338.html).
After my three hour trip, I got home without a problem and I am now half-way through Chapter 3 of Zeldman. The man is a god. Even though he is dealing with interesting but dry subject matter, he writes in a really engaging style. So much so, that I can't put it down (well only to write this post).
The moral of this story...there isn't one. Just a story about how I managed to get a pair of fashionably ripped jeans.
Have you read any good books lately....
