out of date warrenty

my daughter got a ipod shuffle for xmas it broke (would not recharge)
in april

we rang apple to see what we do nest just to find out the warrenty had run out 3 days earlier

they was no help at all when we explained it was a gift so we had no control over when it was actually bought 🙁

The shuffle has a 1 year warranty. Either your giver bought it in April of last year and held it until Christmas, or it was old stock sitting at the retailer. If the warranty has never been registered, Apple estimates the warranty from the date they shipped it to the retailer. What you need to do is get the receipt from the giver, so that if they bought old store stock, you can register the warranty with the correct purchase date. It ain't Apple's fault, though.

Unless you're meaning that the 90 day period for free phone calls is over. Which it would be, but you still have 1 year from purchase for repairs. Take it to an Apple authorized service centre.

We have a shop in Leeds, check www.krcs.co.uk for its location. They may be able to see if it had been purchased from there and if so, reprint a new proof of purchase with the original date.

If it wasn't purchased from there they will be able to point you in the right direction, but wont be able to sort out a repair for you.
