View Full Version : Who here has facial hair?

Abstract
Jun 29, 2006, 08:17 AM
How many of you have facial hair? How many of you are men? :p

Um, seriously though........is it finally coming back in fashion in your city/country?? Recently, I've seen facial hair on maybe 10% of the guys I see here in Australia, which is a lot if you consider how the popularity of pop groups like NSync made hairless babyfaced, 27 year old "boys" popular for awhile.

Right now, I've got a beard and moustache combo, although just before this I would shave my moustache and keep the beard. Before that.......babyface. Thought having only a beard was cool, but right now, I'm just enjoying going all crazy with the facial hair. Not gonna trim it for awhile and see what happens. I wanna be able to stroke that thing whenever I'm having a deep thought, sort of like I'm posing, but whatever. People always get a good chuckle out of it, and girls have said it looks hot. ;)

Personally I'm not a huge fan of men with beards/moustaches... a bit of stubble is good though.

mmm. rugged. :)

Only downside is the stubble burn of course though :o

There's a blond guy in our office who has recently grown a full face beard that grew in red... and looks just odd!

Or a serial killer! Sutcliffe/Shipman/Mansen et al:eek:

I usually shave once a week - my facial hair in contrast to my head, grows in slowly, and I like a couple days growth. I'll be shaving tonight though as its got to the untidy point.

Fortunately most girls I've gone out with don't seem to suffer with stubble burn - apart from one unfortunately Aussie girl last year. Lasted for days on her - and I had to shave every frackin' dayat least once... no wonder it didn't last:D

See the attached pic (which I just posted to the MR pictures thread earlier today). I am 29, I used to be clean-shaven until I was 27, when someone asked me which high school I was going to.

That's when I decided to grow the facial hair.

Always a trimmed stubble here, for reasons I posted in the Shaving (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=203786) thread. I used to have a goatie when I was down in South Africa, but that bit the dust when I came back home (it looked crap on me anyway :) )

i generally go a few days between shaving, so i have some stubble usually. i have grown "beards" in the winter before, and i love it. my gal friend doesn't. ;) i say "beards" because my facial hair is patchy so it's not like a canadaram beard or anything.

mustaches are gross. so occasionally it's fun to shave all but the stache.

I have a little, a slight "beard."

I do it because I like it, and it was something very different (I've always been very clean-shaven, until the facial hair). Seems to be working out ok. Not very many guys around here my age (21) let theirs grow.

I've recently shaved my head (not bald, just a tiny bit left) which means the beard needed to be trimmed to match.

I usually ask a barber to trim it twice a year, when I can find one... Else i use an el-cheapo electric trimmer.

Nobody expects the weirdy beardy!:D

I did grow a goatee at uni for a while - couple with grade 2 hair length it wasn't too bad. When I decided to get shot I did the typical thing and shaved it so I'd see what I looked like with a moustache.

Beard and moustache here for the past 20 years pretty solid with the very occasional shave leaving only the moustache for a couple of weeks. Starting to go gray a bit in the beard, wonder what that means....

I can imagine it would be.

Don't think it is a look I could pull it off though (same goes with the "fake" comb-over I've seen. Dude shaved the middle part of his head, let the side grow, and combed it over. Looked pretty cool on him, but I think he's the only one who could do it w/ success lol)

Actually, I just shaved this morning. I normally go every other day, mainly because I'm lazy. I don't mind the stubble look, but I've had a beard a couple of times and just can't stand it for very long.

Abstract
Jun 29, 2006, 09:52 AM
I think of stubble as sort of being an awkward stage for me, personally. It's like hair that's not short, and not long, and it should either be one or the other. It looks good on some people, but stubble makes me look lazy, which is why I grew a short stubbly beard and just trimmed it whenever it got too long. I never left it as a stubble. It was either some fuzz, or clean.

Now I'm just gonna start letting it grow in for another week. My facial hair grows quickly. I just find that during the middle of the day, there's sort of a natural amount of hair grease in there. I wouldn't mind it if it was on my head, but when it's on my face, it's weird. Now I shampoo my facial hair when I'm there. Another week from now, and I'm gonna break out the conditioner. :p

And yes, what would this thread be without photos.

Similar story with me. I recently shaved my head as well, and I didn't want my facial hair to be longer than my....um..."head hair." Saw it on someone else with a shaved head and a thick beard, and it just seemed odd.

But the facial hair in your photo does suit you, though. ;)

Nope. I thought about trying a beard but the the hair on my face has bald patches, like it never really grew in, so it wouldn't look good if I tried. Best I could hope for would be a mustache or goatee and I don't care for that anyway.

Sensible chap... there's far too many 14/15 year old baseball cap, shell suit, and gold adorned chav's in London with "moustache's"... I've seen thicker growth on a spiders leg. They're so non existant to the point you'd think the "moustache" would wish itself out of existance. Either that or blow away in a moderate gust of wind.

I have some. Grew it back in oct of 04. Shave it off around apirl 10th 06 or so. Was clean shaven for 3 days and desided I hated it and started growing it back.

Sadly this picture is at 1.5 weeks after I started growing it. It takes about 2 weeks for it to be fulling grown in how I like it. (it just a little darker not any longer really. I keep it trimed short). That and it now how I normally look. Also I normally wear glasses and like how I look in them better.

That being said a lot of people look really bad with facial hair. Some people really can pull it off. I been told I am among the few people who look really good with it. Plus since it grows so fast I think I look beter with it that the constan shadow look (full grown in less than 2 weeks).

The worse part about growing it out is going though the entire ichy stage. 2nd time it was not as bad. Only a day instead of the 3-4 on the first one and it did come in a little faster.

Normally I shave a couple times a week, but right now, just on Saturdays. Once the bar is over and done, I might shave more often.

That being said, during the height of the "I got X done to my hair because <fill in NBA star> did it" era (about three years back), I did have the full Dirk (http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.interbasket.net/players/nowitzki.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.interbasket.net/players/nowitzki.htm&h=671&w=500&sz=46&hl=en&start=1&tbnid=0fHiAw62efVHsM:&tbnh=136&tbnw=101&prev=/images%3Fq%3Ddirk%2Bnowitzki%26svnum%3D10%26hl%3Den%26lr%3D%26sa%3DN) head going on.

I'm on year 5 of my current goatee. I'd pull a full beard in a second if it weren't for some uncooperative bald patches on my cheeks that would make it 1) look funny, 2) take forever to fill in.

When I first started dating my wife I went back and forth with being lazy and trying to grow something, and then shaving it when I decided it wasn't looking how I wanted. She had me go back and forth a few times and decided that she preferred me with it. It takes approximately 4 weeks for it to fill in if I shave it.

This (http://att.macrumors.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=18783) is as much of a picture as I'm currently willing to put on the forum, and it was mainly to show off my daughter.

I wish I had the option...

I am over 30 and still unable to grow anything resembling a beard. I have some modest sideburns - that's all genetics is allowing. Otherwise, it looks like my facial hair settlers managed to establish a small colony on my chin and upper lip, and have otherwise just sent out really small expeditions to the rest of my face - one hair at a time.

Also, for some inexplicable reason, my facial hair is sometimes blonde - while my actual hair is very dark.

meh. I'll probably be able to grow a beard right at the time I am going bald - the universe hates me...

I would probably grow a goatee or soething but it doens't come in thick enough, and looks stupid. Maybe in a couple of years. I always thought facial hair looked cool. Damn asian genes, I can't even grow a decent goatee at the age of 22. What's wierd is that I got hair all over my body, and most asians don't. The men in my family are pretty hairy, and for an 18 year old I think I csn grow a pretty good beard considering my age. I would absolutely love to grow it out, but my girlfriend hates it, and I have to keep her happy.

I did grow it out for close to 2 weeks once though. The moustache didn't come in too good.

I started growing a goatee in the first week of December '04. Then I shaved it in November '05. It has since made its return (this past March I think it was.) Currently, it is the longest hair on my body. ;) I've been thinking of going for the Dimebag Darrel triangle style, but mine seems to want to grow to the right side of my face. I really should get a real beard trimmer.
I don't have a mustache though, as when I play, my lip gets irritated by the hair.

Facial hair of any kind in a man just doesn't work for me.
I only like - and would only date - clean shaven guys.
I always give compliments to my guy friends when they show up perfectly shaven -- it just looks so clean, groomed, and "together".

Do it! I had a roommate who had a goatee like that for a while, and it was pretty awesome. I'd never do it 'cause I'd look like a fool, but if you can pull it off, I say go for it.

And dye it red!

Whenever I go to get my eyebrows done, they always ask "Just your eyebrows?"

I don't have a lady-stache!

and for that matter, any facial hair I have (non-eyebrow) is so super-blonde that you can't see it.

I don't have a mustache.. stupid waxers.

*pouts*
*spits*
eww, I got a hair in my mouth!

Are you sure they don't want to wax other regions????

It's kind of funny, I can develop a good amount of facial hair and my brother has absolutely none. There was a time when he was really jealous and I would walk around, scratch my chin and let loose a nice "Hmmmmmmm...".

Other than that, I usually have some nice 'burns and some stubble from being too lazy to shave every day or so. To really annoy my wife, sometimes I let my beard grow out then shave it into funny patterns... mutton chops, soul patch, the Wyatt Earp-looking beard, etc. I end up shaving it all off though when she starts crying... don't want to be too mean. :)

I usually have a bit of stubble going on, if I've not been arsed/required to have a shave. I normally need to keep myself looking respectable for work, but if it's a long weekend or I'm on holiday I'll generally leave it until the itching gets too much for me.

I had a big ass beard in Highschool

And an even bigger beard in University,

Now that I'm in the working world, I've cut back, but I still only shave on Sunday nights.

So, by Friday, I have a mini beard....

I love beards, I think I look better in beards, I wish chicks dug beards more.....

Kudos, quigley. Well stated.
I've had facial hair since I was about 12, maybe thirteen. had to shave. Got tired of it in high school, so I only did occassionally. Sported a goatee as a teen, but pretty much for the last 10-12 years, I've kept a nice full beard. Occassionally it goes into Mountain Man territory. I don't trim it back until I start to notice it/pay attention to it: If I'm rubbing my chin too much, or petting my own cheek, it's too long, and so I trim it. Most of the time, i think it looks fine, but it's not really for style.

I do, also, have a "3 comment Rule," where if 3 people say something like "Whoa there, Mr. Crockett!" or something, it's probably too long. haha!

But really, i'm a beard fan. Is it a "style" here? no, not really. I'm a loner.

But nice to see others along for the hairy ride.

lol I did that to my dad when I grew mine.

His entire side can not grow facial hair and it look very bad when they do try. It was surpising because even my mom's dad cant grow facial hair so there not much of a gene pool left where I got it from.

Did enjoy laughing at my dad for a few weeks because he always wanted to grow something but cannt.

mostly really short (i don't know how long stubble is.. i guess that's the right word)

in the past i shaved at least every 2nd day.. while now as i student i'm more lazy and now it's mostly every 3rd day or if it falls on a slow evening then sometimes get up to 5 days which means even more hassle to get rid of it again ;)

on the other side i normally shave away the mustache region daily simply because i have only few hairs there and that would look ridiculous

My Dad rarely has to shave, but I'm not so lucky. He's always complaining about it when I see him because I have that Keifer Sutherland/24 look. I use an electric razor or trimmer most of the time, but I still have stubble after a couple of hours. In a couple of days, I have a full beard. Once in awhile I'll do the razor thing, but then I look younger than I am and I hate that. Not to mention how long it takes to shave it all completely off. My hair is like steel wool. I destory razors. Tried the goatee thing for awhile, g/f at the time liked it, but it seemed more trouble than it was worth.

When I'm being lazy I look like this (plus I like that it makes me look kinda creepy, glasses or contacts):

Goatee. Have had it for a few months. Used to have a full beard, but started cutting it down to just a goatee. I've had at least a goatee for 8 years now; and my wife has never seen the bare skin of my chin or upper lip. :D

That said, I'm losing the hair on top. From the center out; I'm going to look like a monk. I figure the first time I catch myself actively trying to hide the bald spot, I'll just shave my whole head.

As for it getting popular? I have no idea. I've never cared enough to notice.

I know the feeling I shave my head and have a goatee. The goatee is so that I don't look like I am on Chemo.

I end up with a few days stubble before I get sick of it, so I typically avoid facial hair. I can't stand it during the itchy stage. It makes me feel dirty for some reason. Also I'm sporting the shaggy hair look and, well, I'm not up to looking that disheveled. :o

There's a lot of hairy guys here...

I have a low commitment beard going on right now. I have tried many different facial hair motifs- but my favorite is the handlebar mustache. It can't be worn too long - or else folks stop trusting you - but it is a beauty. Someday - if I work up the courage, I'd love to have a photo of myself with handlebar mustache, and mullet. That would be a spiritual state of being.
