View Full Version : MacRumors 604???

I just glanced upon the "Congrats mad jew for your 15.000 posts, and there by reaching 604 status" thread, and I read there something about 604e, G3, G4...
In this thread, plus in the MR Old Skool forum, it says that arn won't tell anyone, but a selected few, what is above MacRumors 604 (except MacRumors God:D ).
Don't kill me for asking, but what is above mad jew's status? I dunno if a 605 processor excists, or if it's G3 that's next. (Hail to mad jew when he reaches Core Duo status:D ). Well, is anyone willing to tell.
If no, just lock this thread, I'm a bit nervous asking this, since the "Congrats mad jew for your 15.00 posts, and there by reaching 604 status" thread got locked...

not sure of the post counts but the history goes like ..
http://arstechnica.com/articles/paedia/cpu/ppc-1.ars/1
I think it will be 605, to signify the number of times in the past year we've had this discussion. ;)
In the end, does it really matter? Post count does not relate to one's contributions to the site, although in mj's case, it's not far off.

Yes, there was a 604e, it was used in the 7300, 8600 and 9600 series of PowerMacs. However, since there was no 603e or 603ev ranks here on MacRumors, I doubt there will be a 604e ranking....
G3, G4 and G5 will not be ranks here at MacRumors, as they are the "marketing names", not the processor names themselves. Instead, they would be PowerPC 750 (G3), the 74xx series (G4) and then the 970 series (G5). And then onto the Intel chips!

What makes you think that we're not going to use the marketing names? As far as I know, none of the previous processors had marketing names so you can't just say "because you used the model numbers for the others!"
Please note that I'm not implying that you're right or wrong. This is a neutral post and should not be analysed for clues :)

When I started here, I had no idea what a MR 68020 was. Today I know, but I find it wierd that going from 65832 to 68000 or going from 68010 to 68020 you only need five additional posts. Were these processors not used much, or is it just to make it possible for people to reach higher rankings?
I hate this "etc....", but why is it that, you become a 601 at 5000 posts, and mad jew became a 604 at 15000 posts. At which posts points do you reach 602 and 603? 7500 and 12500 perhaps? I you remember mad jew, please enlighten us:D
http://img77.imageshack.us/img77/548/billede19hk.png
Here is the list going from Newbie to 601. I wonder, since you can only acquire an avatar at 6502 status (500 posts), and though this is not very probable, could a Newbie/Member/Regular recieve the privilege of displaying an avatar if he/she was given Moderator powers?
I actually agree with Shard, though you can not base this argument on, that marketing names have not been used in pre G3 processor statuses, because there were no such names for them. I still believe though, that it will be the marketing names since "MacRumors G5" sounds IMO cooler than "MacRumors 970". Not to offend the naming of current reached statuses, yet of course, "MacRumors Yonah" or "MacRumors Merom" sounds better than "MacRumors Core 2 Duo"... Please arn! Enlighten us!:D (j/k)

Jul 6, 2006, 02:33 AM
The 602 was a processor designed for use in game consoles, PDAs etc., so not used in Macs.
The 603 level is reached at 10,000 posts.
I don't believe the 65832 was ever actually used either. In fact the chip was never put into production, although it was designed.
I don't think the 68010 was used either except for aftermarket upgrades, as computer manufacturers held out until the 68020 was ready soon after.
Edit: Yes, someone with less than 500 posts could be permitted to have an avatar if they are a moderator...longofest is one example, though he's almost up to 500 posts now. A very select few others have been awarded avatar status ahead of time through contests...we haven't had one of those in a while though.

Yup - longofest (http://forums.macrumors.com/member.php?u=19313) is a moderator with less than 500 posts, as is knox (http://forums.macrumors.com/member.php?u=5587) (who, if I remember correctly was also temporarily a god at one point). I think in both cases they contribute more to the site than posts, and do a lot of work behind the scenes.

How do you know he hasn't already and simply decided to keep his processor ranking? I was seriously debating it myself when I contributed. Obviously you're not aware of the concept of a Stealth Demi... :p  ...or a Stealth Mod...
MJ, donate to the site and become a demi god. You should. While being a contributor/demi-god can be a noble thing to do, mj contributes in a way that many others do not - providing good technical advice and helping to solve members' problems.

It will be a scary day when someone hits Intel Core Duo. At my rate, it will take me 40 year:D
In the future, all post counts will be referred to as fractional MJs. Much like substituting Mach values for speed.
An MJ = 37 posts per day.
My current posting rate is .24MJ.
Much like Mach speeds, if anyone actually breaks the 1MJ barrier, we will indeed hear a loud noise, which will likely be the universe collapsing in on itself.

I believe the 68010 was used in some HP Laserjets. It was never used in a Mac. The 68020 was used in many Macs! I had an original Mac LC (pizza box) with 68020 and the added FPU to go with it!!
Just to add to the general discussion, there was also a PowerPC 620 which was a 64-bit cpu. It was never used in any Macs. I don't even know if it ever got to full-scale production.

Well looky here, what me's found:
I went to my profile, and looked under: "Find all thread started by Josias". There I saw this old thread, and thought: "Let's see how many posts mad jew has, 24 days after I started this thread". I looked at his profile, and saw around 16.500 posts. More than 1000 posts in 24 days, is pretty impressive. 41.6 posts a day. I went to "last" in the list of his posts, and saw a "Top 50 posters" thread by Doctor Q.
Now, if you look at the list, mad jew is surprisingly, at least to me, not #1. He is/was on July 5th 2006# 3, but he is a mere 234 posts from #2, so only 5-6 days, and he'll be #2 poster, which currently is wdlove. I post this in this thread, since Mr. Anderson has exceeded 20.000 posts, he will, if thinking logically, have reached the rank above 604. Now, since he both is a Demi-God and a moderator, I find it hard to see his "posting status", and since wdlove is also a Contributor, his/her status is also invisible, though we can be pretty darn sure he/she is also a 604, like mad jew. I just thought, that though mad jew will reach 20.000 pretty fast, Mr. Anderson is currently what I believe is G3 status. Please Mr. Anderson, if you know, tell us!:D
As you can see by looking at the profiles, wdlove's last activity was on June 10th, 2006, which is 1 months and 19 days ago, I don't know if he/she is having a break, doesn't go online that often or simply stopped posting here, but anyhoo, mad jew and Mr. Anderson were both active today, which means they both will continue their posting rampage until reached Yonah status...:p

Heh heh - well, I do have many other things to catch up on as well, but I'll do my best, just for you guys. ;) :D

Thank God the new Leopard systems will be full 64-bit - I think we'll need all that addressing space to calculate such large numbers... :p ;)

Dissapointing, you anly have 16.839:( :p Nah, take a vacation, I'm sure Mr. Anderson soon will stop his yearly contributing to MR, and abandon his moderator status, just so we can see the status above 604...:D
Currently on post 990! :D

Too bad to get a Wasteland thread on your first day.
Well, since mad jew is now at 18.320 posts, and Mr. Anderson has passed 22.000 posts, and Doctor Q a few months ago updated the Top 50 posters list, I though we should summarize. MJ's post rate is at 20+ posts. It's fallen a bit in the past. I guess he finally started sleeping.
Going on with 20 posts per day, he'll be a MacRumors G3 in 133 days. Doctor Q can probably figure out when that is:D

Actually, if the Mods have decided to remain consistent with their naming schemes for the higher ranks, mad jew would become a MacRumors 750 not a MacRumors G3. ;)

Well whatever you fell, don't threatened - there is only one Master Spammer on MacRumors and it ain't him.
For the record I am a close second.

He joined yesterday, and it says he now had 66 posts. I guess he either posted in some non-post count sub-forum, or some of them got wastelanded.
Man, he nearly became a regular in one day. That took me more than two weeks.:D
Oh right, MacRumors 750. Do the Yonah and Merom's have code names like the PowerPC's? (G5=970/970FX).

It looks like the mods did a bit of cleanup and removed a few of his posts that didn't contribute much to the threads.

Yep.
Processor Number - Cache-Clock Speed Front Side Bus Intel- 65 nm
E6700 4 MB L2 2.66 GHz 1066 MHz
E6600 4 MB L2 2.40 GHz 1066 MHz
E6400 2 MB L2 2.13 GHz 1066 MHz
E6300 2 MB L2 1.86 GHz 1066 MHz
Somehow, a MacRumors E6400 has no appeal to me.

That's a pretty decent list, but keep in mind, if they wanted to, the Mods could have ranks for the various processors in those families as well, perhaps shorter-lasting like the 65832 rank. Even though we apparently don't have a 603e rank, that doesn't mean we couldn't possibly have a 7400, 7447 or 7450 rank.
It's fun to speculate on the details. ;) :D

I woulda done like car models. Everyone starts as say a ford taurus and works up to a bugatti or something. that would be sweet
