View Full Version : Got pics of your old macs?

For a summer projecet, I'm creating a website on vintage macs, with articles, a photo collection, cool stuff, etc. If anyone has pictures of their old macs that I can use, I'd appreciate it. I need pictures of any old macs, for the collections section. I'm trying to get pictures of every old mac ever made, and some pics with multiple machines. I'd also like pics/scans of vintage advirtisements, ads, cool items etc.

Anway, if anyone can post pics, I could really use them. They would be hosted on my website, and you'll get credit under each picture for them. You can also have an option of writing a little caption for the picture and I'll add that also.

I'd love it if you could help!

This Danamania person has good pictures in his Wiki gallery (http://tools.wikimedia.de/~daniel/WikiSense/Gallery.php?&wiki=commons.wikimedia.org&img_user_text=Danamania). Perhaps you should contact him.

wow those pictures are REALLY nice!

I can't figure out how to contact him, as when I click on his user name, it just says no page for this user has been found. It seems like the website is free for using images, as long as you give credit to the name.

Well does anyone else have any pics?

I got quite a few IIci/IICx/mac SE pics already, but could still use a lot more!

P.S. Dana is a female.

And she occasionally posts on here (the MacRumors Forums,) although her profile (http://forums.macrumors.com/member.php?u=38063) says she hasn't been here since February.

And, if something is posted to Wikimedia commons, it will say what it's license terms are. Most pictures there are licensed free for non-commercial use, with attribution. (i.e. you must say where you got the photo, and it can't be used for any money-making purpose.) Danamania's all use the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/2.5/) license, meaning you can do whatever you want, as long as you credit her, and if you make a derivative work (i.e. edit the picture,) you have to use the same license.

Finally, don't just look in Danamania's gallery, but in all of the Wikimedia Commons' Apple Macintosh (http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Apple_Macintosh) category. There are LOTS of good photos in there, some that look like professionally-shot PR shots.

Finally, if you want 'collection' type shots, my collection (http://www.hurtley.org/Macs.html) is available. (It's not on that page yet, but it also uses the Attribution-ShareAlike license.)

so would you mind if I used a pic or two for the 68k section of my new website? I'll most certainly give you credit for the pictures :D

Go right ahead.

Yeah, a Mac II, and a IIfx (both ends of the 'big case' family,) and the Color's case is mint, but it's motherboard is a bit flaky, so I replaced it with a Colo(u)r Classic II motherboard. (A real CC2 mobo, not a modded LCwhatever mobo.) It screams now. It still has its QuickTime sticker, and with the new motherboard, it can actually play QT movies decently well.

The site seems to have some goofy quirks... most noteably that I only see about 20 Macs altogether, plus two goldfinches. Are those under the iBird category? :p

At one point, I had a number of vintage Macs set up in a museum-like setup in my parents' basement. A number of coworkers came over and were thoroughly impressed. After moving to TX to attend school, I had to unload many of them, but I still have a few machines, including two Pluses in nearly mint condition; SE; II; Quadra 650; beige G3; 512k; PowerBook 165c, 170, 540c; and also an Atari 800 and 1040st. Even at its high-point, my Mac museum wasn't nearly as exquisite as this one.

Occasionally, I'll use the Quadra and G3 to use some old programs, and the Atari 800 quite often to play old 8-bit games. I also use the Pluses as bookends and the SE, sitting on a shelf on my wall, as a clock. I know, I'm a nerd.

Here's a few of mine...

First up is the desktop of my Macintosh Classic. Then we see three of my classic Macs, my upgraded Color Classic, Macintosh Color Classic, and Macintosh 512k. Next we see a close up of my Macintosh Classic. Then we have an odd view of my messy room including two Mac Centris machines and a Macintosh IIcx. In the last pic is my 12" PowerBook G4 (867mhz), my iMac SE (450mhz), and a failed attempt to boot the Macintosh Color Classic off of a System 7.6 CD, the external CD-ROM drive is being picky. :p The Color Classic had it's motherboard upgraded with a Performa 575 motherboard and 36mb of RAM. :D hehe ;)

P.S.: That basement is AWESOME!! ;)

Why would you think it's fake?

My basement in an old house used to look similar (although not as 'finished',) to that. If I made just a little bit more money, then when I remodel my basement, I would do something like that with it.

You guys have amazing stuff. I have a thread on the marketplace right now. I am trying to round out my laptop collection. I am getting a flicker account tonite when I get off work and post to you what I've rounded up so far! If anyone has some extra 90's era laptops, I am interested.

yeah, I wish it continued also... I had all the pages made, but no where to host the website :D

oh well, maybe some day I can get some hosting from somewhere~!

I have some web space lying around if you don't mind an odd URL :p :D Seeing everyone's old Mac collections sure is fun ;)
