I have one copy of Windows XP, i've installed it using Boot Camp. I want to try Parallels but am wondering if it's possible to have the same Windows copy on both the Boot Camp Windows partition and Parallels? Will I run into any toruble if I try doing this such as windows activation and so on?

Activation won't (generally) work out of the box, but it has been reported by some that if you call MS and explain nicely what you are trying to do they will give you an activation code.

It'll depend somewhat on the details of your license (OEM, retail, volume license) and how much time you wanto to spend on the phone with MS.

Don't forget that you have 30 days to activate, so it should be fine for just trying Parallels.

Yes, you will need the activation code to run Windows Update, which is critical. I have moved installs of a particular XP disc to another environment, or even just changed some of the hardware and reinstalled. They catch it. And you have to go for a new activation code. They are pretty good about it, when they know you are not in Shanghai and making 300 copies a day for local sale....:D

Seem like codepage problems. Are you trying to install in a language other than english?

I don't think so. All I did was follow the instructions that came with Parallels.
