As I mentioned in another thread, I ordered yesterday, free ground shipping, and received my 17" iMac today :). I thought we could have a thread here for new iMac recipients to post their pics, first impressions, screenshots, benchmarks, and the like. Here's a quick screenie to kicks things off:

I'm psyched to see some feedback from others, especially on the 24" beast, but also on the other new iMacs! If anyone wants a specific bench that isn't too hard to run, request it here ;).

I noticed you live in Baltimore too (or at least around there). We must have the sweetest deal in the country because I too have always recieved my items from Apple.com THE NEXT DAY even with free ground cheapy cheap shipping. I think it is b/c the distribution center is in PA.

Congrats on the new Mac. I'm jealous. In just 1.5 years my iMac G5 is ancient lol.

could you or someone use Handbrake to encode a dvd with H.264 (MP4 file) and under Avg. bitrate (kbps), make it 1500, and 2-pass encoding?

you don't have to do the whole DVD - just for about 5 min at least and see what the fps is.

thanks :)

I just tried it too. Never used Handbrake before. Mine is a 17" 2.0 GHz Core 2 Duo, 1GB RAM. Avg 24.49 fps.

The Wifi range on this iMac is awesome. From my living room, my Powerbook detects one wireless network (mine), my wife's Dell notebook detects 2-3 (depending on position), and the iMac detects 7 .

Billy, congratulations on your first Mac! You're gonna love it ;).

I called my local Apple Store today and they got a few of the 20"s in, which is what I wanted and I got their first one. I canceled my online order since Apple said they wouldn't be able to get it to me untill Sept. 22nd

I love it so far!

In case anyone was wondering, the Parallels pre-RC version released today works perfectly on the Core 2 Duo iMac.

thanks billy and amin for the shots.

yeah, it looks about the same as my yonah imac, but let's wait and see with the 2.33 ghz model.

also, it varies with each DVD, but it's still a ballpark figure. i've gotten around 30 fps with my 2.0 macbook before, but not always. just depends on the DVD.

i read the mac pro was doing like 65 fps......just seeing how they compared
