Is anyone out there running Shake on a Macbook pro? Does it run ok, or is it too taxing on the laptop?

It will run fine. Apple demoed Shake on a intel imac at NAB. its faster than the Dual G5

Depends on the type of nodes you're running and how many, but runs great overall.
