Hey all. Its been a while since i last posted. Over here in Sacramento, Ca, things seem to be going a bit slow. After i heard about the new iPods on tuesday, i anxiously went over to the Apple store in Arden Fair Mall. With cash in hand, ready to get my new 80gb Video, i was turned away because they hadnt even gotten the frappin shipment in!! No nanos, no shuffles, no videos. So i thoght this was understadable, and i wasnt too pissed (although i was a bit.) So this time i got smart and called (wed.) and still...no ipods! The associate was less than helpful with his exact words.."Ummmmm, umm, well get them sometime this week i think." lol. Its rediculous when the apple store cant even get their stuff in on time. they could of sold hundreds of them in these 2 days. So i said screw it and ordered it online with the express shipping.
Im just wandering if this happened to anyone else, or if yall just ordered it online in the first place. Get at me!

I've ordered a new nano online, as I normally do with my iPods.
I'm glad I did: I ordered yesterday and according to the tracking page it is already currently out for delivery!
Not bad considering it has travelled from The Netherlands to Italy in less than 24 hours!

hah, yea that is rather good time. your lil' nano is a globe trekker. apple says mine is slated to come on the 20th, but i think thats like, the absolute latest time it would because i ordered it with the express shipping. So im guessing it will take a day or so to process it, then another 2 to get it here, so im hoping to be sporting one at the end of the weekend.

Yeah, my nano was originally due to be delivered on the 26... I think it's pretty safe to assume you'll get yours pretty fast!
In the meanwhile just keep refreshing the order status page... it's one of the most exciting feelings when you actually get an update! Apple stuff getting closer... :drools: :D

I never bother ordering new product since the local Apple stores have them in stock on the same day or the following day. Case in point, I bought a new Nano and 30gb iPod today... :)

Ordered my 80GB two days ago. I'd buy in store but I got a £23 discount code and I get cashback via Quidco too so it worked out around 30 quid cheaper. Which will go towards purchasing a nano. ;-)
No sign of it shipping yet.

I'm ordering a 60gig video from the apple refurb site. It is only $229, and the only thing I'm not getting that the new ones have is a brighter screen, I didn't even think anything was wrong with the old screens. That, to me, is really the best deal on the Apple site right now.

I ordered it Tuesday, and had to call yesterday for another reason about the order. They said it was shipping within the hour.
Still hasn't shipped =/
But either way, ground shipping from Apple's warehouse takes one day, so I'm hoping I'll have it tomorrow!

Sounds good guys. I wander why nanos are shipping significantly faster than the videos. I even bought the 2 day shipping for the extra 12 dollars and it says it wont be delivered till the 20th! I ordered it yesterday (wed.) i might add. Im just hoping it comes on the weekend so ill be home to sign for it.
Doesnt apple ship through DHL? I believe they do because i have ordered replacemet headphones from depot.info.apple.com, and they always came through them.
OH, and i have to ask, how are the new headphones?

My nano shipped via FedEx. I ordered it Tuesday and it got here earlier today. (Thursday)
As far as the headphones go, I didn't even take them out of the box. I have a pair of normal Sony headphones that I use. (not earbuds)

I noticed the same thing in the local Apple Store here. not that I wanted to buy 1. anyways, while I was there a few days ago i
overheard from some interested buyers who were looking for the 80GBs but were told Apple doesnt have any in stock. Instead they were asked if they were interested in getting the 30GBs (w/c Apple seems to be clearing out first before the new models arrive) since some of them didnt know any better, they got the 30GBs.

Apple said that my iPod 80gig was supposed to ship Wednesday from the TN warehouse (which is a one day trip via ground).
It shipped this morning from Shanghai =/ No estimated delivery date from FedEx. And, the status is "Missed last daily shipment."
When I called about my order, they said that I ordered it so quickly it was one of their initial batch they had. Obviously, they were wrong.
Update: FedEx has updated! It will be delivered next Wednesday!

Wednesday morning at the Shibuya Apple Store the minute the doors opened (given the time difference this was the earliest I could get one!)
It is a Blue iPod Nano and his name is "Blue 'nano-kun" -- my other 'nano is "White 'nano-kun" and I am not sure what I will do with that one, but will probably keep him -- I still have the very first 'chunky' iPod (and it still works -- got to love the physical scroll wheel on that one) and his name is "iPod-kun", one with the buttons accross the bottom of the screen (not a good design in my mind, but I got one none-the-less) and he is called "Button iPod-kun", one of the original iPod Photo's and he is called "Photo iPod-kun", a 1st Gen 'mini called "mini-kun" and a shuffle under the name "shuffle-kun"
Oh well, at least I don't have an iPod video yet!

No new iPods here in The Gong but it seems somebody has just backed a truck up to all the department stores and emptied new nanos into the stores by pushing them off with a broom - they're everywhere and in good supply in all colours/capacities.
The AppleCentre had stacks of them, very nice looking but in my opinion I find the design less revolutionary than the original nano. When it was released I didn't think it was possible to make a fully-featured iPod so small and so classy. Yes, they scratched easily but they just look really sweet. The new nanos (iPod mini 2) are just shrunken minis - we all knew they could make an iPod that small so they just brought back the aluminium and the colours. Don't get me wrong, they're very nice, I just see the design as the lazy decision from Apple - it's a proven and popular design but to me seems very "safe."
I wanted a nano from the day they were released, I was almost obsessed, I'm not obsessed with these new ones.
Tell you what though, the old ones are on sale here - $299 for a 4GB old one now, same price as the new metal ones. 2GB are $219 - same as the old 1GB version and the 1GB version is $179.
iPods are also on sale - new models are a little slow getting down here. 3 to 5 business days wait quoted on the Apple online store.

Yah, i think its def. faster to order the videos online, rather than play phone tag with apple to see when they have it in. The nanos however, are available everywhere now. My order status still says hasn't shipped yet. its slated to ship on the 18th and arrive on the 20th. I probably shouldn't have paid the extra 12 for 2 day but o well.

Scheduled to arrive 10:30 tomorrow morning as well. Trouble is i wont be home then, but ill just leave them a not to either leave it on the side of the house, or with my neighbor who works from home.

Mine arrived at my work address yesterday. One of the few benefits of being in Anchorage; we are often the first stop for international packages. Unfortunately, I was still on vacation in Seattle, so won't have a chance to fire it up until tonight. It is really nice looking, though.
While I was in Seattle, I took the opportunity to pop into the Bellevue Apple store, and play around a bit with the one they had on display. Really nice, with a bright screen. (On another note, that 24" iMac is HUGE! ).
If nobody gets any pictures taken before tonight, I'll take some and post them on my .mac site.
Can anyone recommend a case? I'd like a completely clear, see-through one, the better to admire the loveliness.

I've been keeping my 5G in the Agent 18 (http://www.agent18.com/scripts/prodview.asp?idProduct=7) for a year now and it looks brand new. Completely see through but tough.

Success! iPod synched without a problem, videos I had previously burned using Handbrake loaded and played without a problem (mpeg4, 320x240).
Below is link to a couple of pics I took. Not too great, due to lighting and poor photography skills. Basically, the look is identical (or nearly so) to the 60GB.

It's fab, especially after my 2G. I am having a bit of trouble adjusting to the touchwheel, but I'm sure I'll get used to the difference.
I like the video capability. I don't think I'd want to watch the Lord of the Rings trilogy on it, but it's nice for music videos and TV shows that don't rely on a lot of special effects or panoramic scenery.
I don't care for earbuds (they make my mild TMJ act up) so I ordered a pair of Sennheiser headphones at the same time. The sound quality of these is very good, much better than the cheap Sonys I was using with my 2G.

I got my new 80g yesterday. It only took 3 days from China. I was only able to load 10g last night. I put on 2 movies, Immortal and Tomcat-Dangerious Desires (this is off an old VHS I copied to DVD and ripped with Handbake). I ripped 2 Firefly shows off my DVD and about 200 fanvids for Farscape, SG1, Buffy and LOTR. Some Madonna, Steve Matthews Band, Sting and k.d.lang music videos off my DVDs (I use Handbake). About 1000 of my best rated songs. I have over 6000 on my iMAC but It took about 2 hours to put on what I currently have. Also a few podcast - Joe Cartoon, DogBlog.com, AppleTV. Love it to death.
I'm still waiting for my ebay cases so am using my old 20g cases instead. Same size but the screen is cut off. My 20g never leaves my iHome in the livingroom.
I'm still on the fence about getting Bejeweled. I love that game and already have it for my MAC/PC.

Got my 80GB from Amazon last week. Syncing was weird at first... iTunes kept "unexpectedly quitting" on me. It seemed to be hiccupping during iPhoto sync. I restored the iPod to factory original settings, and restarted iTunes. I disabled iPhoto sync. It went smoothly thereafter. I later went back and synced a few photo folders with success.
Anyway, this is a sweet piece of gear. I've still got 25GB left for more videos and tunes, I've got Seasons 3-6 of the Simpsons (ripped from DVD), plus a few movies, and over 30GB of music.
I purchased Zuma and Bejewled from iTMS. Zuma is really cool, Bejeweld is OK (the scrollwheel is hard to get used to).
All in all, I'm loving the 5.5 G iPod. My wife now has my old 40GB 4th gen in her office hooked up to the stereo, so she's happy too.

I had a problem syncing to iPhoto too, last night. The first time I synced it went fine, and I synced a single iPhoto folder at that time without a problem. I tried to sync additional photo folders last night, but kept getting an error notice that iTunes couldn't find the iPod (even though it was showing up on the iTunes menu). I restored the iPod to factory settings, and changed settings to automatically sync photos as well as music/movies, and it updated without a problem. Of course, now I have my entire photo library on my iPod, which I didn't plan, but as I have plenty of room I'm not going to worry about it right now.
