Multiple Canadian readers are reporting seeing at least two new Apple "Get a Mac" ads on Canadian TV. The ads have not appeared on Apple's Get A Mac website (http://www.apple.com/getamac/), but from the accounts appear to be the same ads that were previously spotted (http://www.macrumors.com/pages/2006/09/20060905220630.shtml) in a Tampa Bay Apple Store earlier this month. Readers report the following additional information on the ads:

In one ad, Gisele Bündchen reportedly represents a beautiful movie made on a Mac (iMovie), while the PC (with some proding) shows his movie which is an unkempt, hairy man dressed like Gisele.

In another ad aimed to demonstrate the Mac's capability in the office, both Mac and PC are wearing suits (although the Mac's suit is described as a "fairly good looking hip" suit). The PC ends up on the floor in this ad, and reportedly says something along the lines of "just let me lie here and depreciate".

A third ad seen by the Tampa Bay spotter has not yet been reported by Canadian TV watchers, but reportedly depicts the Mac and PC in a counseling session.

I think it's wonderful that Apple is pushing this campaign so hard, and about time!

I can't wait to see them.

I have seen this one in Canada. It was on CTV. The Counsellor advises both the Mac and PC come in twice a week. :)

Our beloved "Mac guy" (Justin Long) featured in these Apple "Get A Mac" ads has just today been announced to play John McClane's (Bruce Willis) co-star as a "good computer hacker" in the new Die Hard 4 film called "Live Free or Die Hard". I wonder how playing a computer hacker in this new Die Hard action film about terrorists using the Internet to attack America will affect Justin's image as the Mac spokesman in the Apple ads. Do you think Steve Jobs is happy that our "Mac guy" is playing a "good hacker" that helps to save America from Internet terrorists?

Maybe Apple Macs will be featured prominantly used by the "good guys" (Justin Long and Bruce Willis) in the new film and Dell PCs will be featured used by the "bad terrorist hackers" Maggie Q and her villain boss Adrien Brody in the film -- one can only hope.

For more info about Justin "Mac" Long officially receiving the nod to co-star with Brice Willis in the new Die Hard sequel, see the article "Mac Computer and Maggie Q for Die Hard 4" at:

I saw the suits one the other day, and while the Mac indeed had a nice hip suit, the PC was wearing a dark jacket with khaki pants, very uncool.

I saw the iMovie ad and the one with both of them in suits. I think the iMove one was pretty funny, when the guy comes on screen representing the PC movie his expression is just perfect. He looks like one of the grips for the commercial who lost a bet and had to appear in a dress on screen. :D

I would comment about the stereotypical remarks made about us here above the 49th, but I have to go see the RCMP about a ticket I got in July; I was driving my dog sled too fast through a moose crossing near Dundas square on the way back to my igloo.

Just a rant from someone who has had enough :)

That's OK mate, now if you'll excuse me I have to see the cops here after they pulled me over for drinking whilst riding in the pouch of my kangaroo to get back to my lean-to before the sun came up and everything caught on fire again.

And to get back to the topic of this thread, does anybody have a recording of the commercial to put up for those curious folks outside of Canada?

When I saw the commercials I didn't realize that they weren't in international rotation....this makes me wonder if there are other new ads that will play in other countries?

WTF is a "shrimp?" We eat Prawns.

Looks like Apple's taking their time getting these ads up on their website - maybe the one with the bloke all frocked-up was deemed too offensive for the US audience...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shrimp

Same thing...

I don't care what you call them...I'm just using the stereotype you see on American Movies and TV shows like the Simpsons.

Stereotypes aren't always accurate.

EDIT: Blame Paul Hogan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prawn) - "Paul Hogan's use of the phrase 'I'll slip an extra shrimp on the barbie for you' in a television advertisement was intended to make what he was saying easier for his American audience to understand, and was thus a deliberate distortion of what an Australian would typically say."

These ads won't be shown on TV in the UK. I read an article shortly after the first batch of the ads were released that indicated that they breach advertising standards guidlines. A friend who works in TV said that they can't be shown as they show a direct comparison to only one other competitor.

ASDA can't say that the are better than Tesco, but they can say that they are better than Tesco, Sainsbury's, ALDI etc.

Seems a bit strange, but nothing in the UK/Europe surprises me anymore. Does any other country treat murderers and rapists better than law abiding people?

How can they breach UK/Europe laws, when the PC (type of computer of which Intel Mac can be also, i.e. can run Windows) is not a competitior (no single company is singled out, neither are PCs only made by just 1 company)?

Is that the reason? OK I'm not surprised.

Actually, I just thought maybe it was the American accents that just wouldn't go down too well. Perhaps Apple could overdub the voices in a Queen's English BBC Home Service style.

"Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen, I represent a Mac. My slightly less with-it companion on my left, well he represents a PC..."

Why do so many people do this? I mean, what happened to VCRs and Tivos, and even just running the line straight into your camcorder? It's just this is the absolute last way I'd record something.

I think the ads have a bit of a charm to them but the style of ads where a human is "playing" the product has the downside of being lame too. It sounds like the style of a bad Japanese ad.

Good Point, Touche.

I do have a DVR, a Motorola one, and the Firewire ports do not talk to my Mac so that I can digitize the TV signal. I saved the commercial on the DVR and I used my camcorder with a tripod to tape the screen on my Plasma TV. I wanted to get the commercial on the internet as soon as possible. It even took me an hour to compress the video on my Mac due to some technical problems; even Macs are not perfect :) .

A video converter bridge is the best thing to have. I do have a Canopus ADVC300 for such work but I lent it out:( . http://www.canopus.com/

I could have used my PowerMac 7300 that has a video capture card and it would have been better. Unfortunately, I gutted the 7300 and tried to upgrade everything in it and it did not work and I need to fix it.

Your camcorder is most likely a birdge, you can just plug the DVR into it.

Edit: I'm not trying to be citical, and thanks much for posting it up, I just wanted to suggest a better way, or understand why it's not possible.

I've seen both ads. They're really well done - not at all like the jumble of bad graphics, poor pics and inane garble that comprise most tv ads.

Yup. Canadians get the cool stuff.;)
