Do you think they would have fixed all those 15" MBPs that were returned because of screen issues? Like the graininess?

I've personally never seen this issue... but one way or another, the inexorable progress of things suggests that they'll have a variety of return units, doesn't it? They always have before.

Actually, until a few days ago, basic was $849 and mid $899. The bigger drops were on the mbp. They probably weren't moving enough of low end w/ only $50 dif, and c2d due soon.

The C2Ds will be more worth it, since 80GB hard drive and 1 GB ram is at least more sane than the old ones.

Yes, but they have their own set of issues (wireless encryption is a major problem).

Don't the C2D MBs have the same pre-N wireless cards as the MBPs?

I picked up a 2.0 MBP refurb from the military site for 1199, not too bad. I called Apple and asked if I was eligible to order. (father is retired miltary and I am a civilian.) They said it was fine and processed it over the phone. Can't wait to get it. I am just hoping for some extra ram or possible HD upgrade...

I just called and asked. My sis in law just bought a macbook off of the military site, her husband is in the Navy. I called up Apple and just asked if it was okay if I bought one because I have a relative who was in the military, or if my father had to be the one to buy it. They said that it was fine. It was regularly 1349 refurb...

Yeah, you have to go to www.military.com and type apple discount in the search bar. It will take you through the steps. It gives you a number to call to and that is what I did. The new items and not refurbs are discounted, but not quite as much as the edu discount.

okay... so this is what i found out... to be eligible for the discount, you can just be member of military.com
and you don't have to be in military to be a member of military.com... there's an option when you sign up, saying you are not in any of the armed force, and you are considering
the discount is same as education discount from as far as i found out

Except that some refurb macs are less.. i.e., I spent 1199 instead of 1349 for my 2.0 MBP... They had the extra $150 off on the matte one, not the glossy which was kind of weird. Also, the 17" 2.16 core duo mbp is only 1699!!!!

I think I can help clear this up since I'm both a student and in the military and have accessed the store both using my .edu discount and the military.com deal.
Both stores have the exact same prices on their refurbs; however, through military.com there is an additional rebate on several (but not all) of the items. The 15" non-glossy 512MB MBP, for instance, is $1349, but has an additional $150 rebate... very nice indeed! A few of the MB models have $100 rebates, as well.

Wow, the military discount on this would really help. Still, I need a few things cleared up, because I'm confused. lol The discounts are for new items (in this case, the MB or MBP) only, correct? There are rebates for refurbs, but they aren't the same discount as the ones on new items? What is the discount on the new items though? I am looking to buy a new MB or MBP, but maybe a refurb if I know if it is new (overstock). Sorry for the questions, but this is a pretty important topic for me (buying my first Mac :D). I would sign up myself, but that brings me to another question. My dad is in the Marine Corps. (not active duty), so is it good to sign up? It seems almost too good to be true to just sign up and get all of those discounts when you don't have to be affiliated with the military. I apologize for possibly sounding naive, but I'm just curious about this situation. I appreciate any answers to my flurry of questions. :D

the discount he talked about were for refurbs, however there are discounts for new ones as well... the ones for new ones are identitcal to edu store (about 10%)
you will never know for sure if the refurb is overstock (that chance is really low, even lower than expect the thing you receive to be of higher configuration)
you can sign up even you have abs. no affiliation with the military, as i said in my earlier post, there is a option of not associated with military and considering... and to qualify for the deal, you just have to be member of the military.
