Sometimes when I put my iPod on to 'shuffle songs' it comes up with a perfect selection to suit my mood.
So I thought it would be interesting to let it take control and post the first five songs it comes up with together with some comments about them. so here goes...
There's No Home For You Here - The White Stripes
Well, that's a great start. I love everything that Jack and Meg have ever done. From the Elephant album.
Make Me A Pallet On Your Floor - Gillian Welch
This reminded me that I have not listened to Gillian for a while. This is from the Soul Journey album and is one of my favourite songs of hers.
Like A Rolling Stone - Bob Dylan
An absolute classic right from that first hit on the drums. At times it sounds like it's about to fall apart but somehow it just keeps going. Fantastic. One of the best singles of all time.
Welcome To The Working Week - Elvis Costello
Side one, track one (in old money) from the first Elvis album. I still play this one a lot. It sounds fresh to my ears even after all these years.
An Harangue - Art & Language and Red Crayola
From a recent purchase (Rough Trade Shops Counter Culture 76) and one I'm not that familiar with yet. I don't know what I think of this one just yet.
Well that wasn't too bad.
I invite you to do the same, put your iPod on 'shuffle songs' (or your iTunes on 'Party Shuffle') and tell us what the first five songs are. No cheating!

Vonda Shepard - Someone You Use
A cute girl with a great voice is a winning combination. Soundtrack of Ally McBeal.
Laleh - Hide Away
Also great voice, real talent. Deep lyrics, which I like. This song has a history with me.
Tori Amos - Crucify
A personal favourite as I love her voice and lyrics.
Uno Svenningsson - Under Ytan
Swedish modern classic. Also deep lyrics about the darkness of todays society.
12 Stones - Let Go
I have no idea what this song is doing on my iPod.

Midnight Train To Georgia - Gladys Night & The Pips
I haven't listened to this song for a good year, and I'd forgotten what a fantastic piece of music it is! I'm gonna be digging out all my dad's old soul records tomorrow evening now.
Chicken In a Box - Mr Scruff
Couldn't be more different from the first song. Overly stretched out, one of Mr Scruff's lesser songs IMO.
Hairy Trees - Goldfrapp
Great song. First time I've listened to it with the new stereo, and it sounds really really great.
Equinoxe, Part 2 - Jean Michel Jarre
Off one of the best albums ever IMO, amazing to think he recorded the whole thing with a 4 track.
Porcelain - Moby
Again, another great piece of music, the highlight of Play, IMO.

Good idea for a thread.
It Overtakes Me - The Flaming Lips
From 'At War With the Mystics'. Not the best song on the album, but still great. One of my favourite bands
Treebeard - Howard Shore
From LOTR:The Two Towers soundrack. I actually prefer the soundtrack to the third film because of the way all the themes he introduced over the previous two are reintroduced and varied.
Walking Spanish - Tom Waits
From 'Rain Dogs'. There isn't a duff song on this album - it is his best by a long shot.
How to Disappear Completely - Radiohead
From 'Kid A'. A massive change in sound after OK Computer, but an interesting experiment
Carnival - Tom Waits
From 'The Black Rider'. Hmm - another Tom Waits song, which is a pretty fair assessment of my listening habits. This is from a play he wrote with William Burroughs, which I saw in London a couple of years ago, with Mariann Faithful playing the role of the devil. Very good.
All in all, came up with some good songs (and god knows there is some crud on my iPod which could have come up :D )

I love this song (and indeed the whole album) and recently included it on a compilation CD I made for a couple of friends. This could also be my favourite album of his (although of course there are many to choose from). The recent bawlers/brawlers/bastards box set is also terrific.

OK, I'll do it. But be forewarned, I have some scary stuff on here.
Kiss On - Tyler Hilton
I have no godly clue...I think that that was an impulse thing. I thought the title sounded interesting, so on the iPod it went.
You and Me - Lifehouse
Haven't listened to this in a while...made me forget that this isn't exactly a bad song. I should listen to it more.
Better Days - Goo Goo Dolls
This reminds me, there's a Goo Goo Dolls concert down in Ft. Wayne at the Embassy tonight. Hmm.
Ohio is for Lovers - Hawthorne Heights
I think this was recommended by a friend...I don't remember this song at all. Oh well.
Sugar, We're Going Down - Fall Out Boy
I think this was another impulse...but its not a bad song.
Osarkon
Mar 14, 2007, 08:24 PM
Tell Me Baby - Red Hot Chili Peppers
Quite a random start, don't think it's gonna last. Great song though
Nevermore - Cradle of Filth
hm...haven't even given this a proper listen yet.
Angels with Snipers - InMe
Such a good song, but it does wear thin after a while, the whole newest album to be honest
Blood of the Scribe - Lamb of God
Good old American Metal. Can never get tired of it.
Use My Third Arm - Pantera
Some more good metal, I was wondering when it show up :)

My iPod's upstairs so iTunes will work. :)
Is It Any Wonder? - Keane
Great single by Keane, but not my favorite from that album.
All These Things That I've Done - The Killers
One of my favorite songs from Hot Fuss. I still listen to this song often.
Henrietta - The Fratellis
I just bought this album as it came out in the U.S. on the 12th. It's great, and I especially love this song. Good way to open up the album.
Just Like I Am - Landon Pigg
I bought this album a while ago and haven't really listened to it in a while. I think I should start listening to it again, as it was pretty good.
I Miss You - Blink 182
I don't listen to this much anymore, and I never really got into Blink 182. I really like this song, though.

Appleseed Cast - An Orange And A Blue (Instrumental) - great album (Peregrine), great band.
Low - La La La Song - Low frontman Alan Sparhawk I think is one of the great rock songwriters of today.
The Tea Party - Lullaby - put this on the iPod trying to see if I dig this album..
Pink Floyd - The Narrow Way: Pt 1 - great trippy David Gilmore track from Ummagumma, their album from early 70's.
The Smiths - The Headmaster Ritual - the song for me that encapsulates everything I like about The Smiths.

My top five could have went better, but oh well. :)
Jolene - The White Stripes
This is from their Under Blackpool Lights DVD. I'm never certain how to feel about this cover. I do appreciate the heartbreaking take on it as opposed to Dolly Parton's seemingly upbeat original. Sometimes I can listen to their version over and over again, while other times I just skip over it. Gets me looking forward to Icky Thump. :)
New Slang - The Shins
Never got into The Shins, but after watching Garden State, I bought this off iTS. Wonderful.
We Used To Be Friends - The Dandy Warhols
Went through a phase of The Dandy Warhols. Nothing too spectacular about the song...
Dream's Creation - Yasunori Mitsuda
I've often debated having orchestrated pieces on my iPod, as I usually use it in the car and I don't feel that these types of pieces mesh well with driving. Regardless, Mitsuda is an amazing composer, and the Chrono Cross soundtrack is a brilliant piece of work. I love this song so much... it's delicate and beautiful. Far and away my favorite of the five that came up.
I Am A Witch - Helium
My fifth was actually another live version of Jolene by the White Stripes, but I skipped over it. So this is a live version of "I Am A Witch." It's got Mary Timony, what more could I ask for?

On my 4GB Nano:
Vertigo - U2
A bit overplayed. Time to remove from my nano library.
Turn You On - Paris Hilton
How did this get on my nano? :p
Stoned - Dido
From her Life for Rent album. Not my favourite track, as I much prefer White Flag and Sand in My Shoes. This sounds like the remix version. Hmmm...
You're My Thrill - Nouvelle Vague
Haven't listened to this song yet.
Viva Forever - Spice Girls
Truly one of the best tracks from their album. If this song doesn't move you, you are not human.

sugar ray - fly
i have to admit i hated this song when i first heard it. but several years later, i found myself singing it out of the blue, and i just thought, "wow, what a cool song."
the eels - last stop: this town
i really like this song. it's fun to listen to, and it's fun to sing along with.
the beach boys - barbara ann
i can't say i'm a big fan of the beach boys, but this song is just too infectiously happy. and the beach boys surfer sound works for the song.
zero 7 - waiting to die
a song i first heard on the oc. it's really relaxing to listen to, and it reminds me of happy oc moments. :)
leona naess - christmas
what a great album this song comes from. since i started shopping at the itunes music store, i've hardly bought any cd's, translating to fewer and fewer albums that i actually listen to. leona naess, bloc party and modest mouse are exceptions.

Trust Me - The Fray
Umm I've played this song before but I've forgotten it. This album was a fad. I liked it, then I dropped it.
World of Two - Cake
This reminds me of myself. I live in my own world of two sometimes.
Otherside - RHCP
lol gotta love RHCP. I have no idea what the song means but it's a GREAT song to sing to in your car.
Head Over Heels - Switchfoot
You know there are songs that Christian bands sing about love and sometimes you don't know if they're talking about love for a spouse or a love for God. Well, this is one is pretty clear. It's about a love for a spouse. Beautiful song, wish I was head over heels for someone. :(
Fragilidad - Sting
Ohhhhhh Sting I love you in a musical way. ;) This song is the Spanish version of "Fragile". I want to learn the lyrics for this song and sing it to some lovely maiden and take her heart. :p

I'm going to try this again with my 20GB regular iPod:
Sunday Girl - Blondie
Catchy, sultry tune with a bit of french lyrics thrown in.
Stay - Ne-Yo
Slow R&B is not my favourite genre, but good production saves it.
Ride It On - Mazzy Star
Slow and dreamy pop music. Something you play in the background while comatose. ;)
Waiting for Mars - Teitur
Could not get into this song, although Teitur's Sleeping With the Lights On is a perennial favourite of mine.
Keep The Car Running - Arcade Fire
Hey a Canadian band! Refreshing track from an awesome album.

Token Drug Song – Pop Will Eat Itself.
Quite a mellow serious track from PWEI. One of my favourites.
Lucinda – Tom Waits
One of his beatbox tracks. I love Tom Waits stuff he’s one of the few true musical geniuses.
Beauty – Enistürzende Neubauten
A very quiet track with Blixa speaking the words.
Where Wild Roses Grow – Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
One of the Murder Ballads. The one with Kylie singing on. Great song reminds me of
How uncomfortable Blixa looked when this was on Top of The Pops!
Akuma No Uta – Boris
A fast and furious rock track from the Japanese masters of experimental noise music

This is interesting, I'm very proud of my music library!
First one:
You Don't See Us - The Roots - from the 'Things Fall Apart' album - one of their best, although they've made so many great albums. I must say this is my favourite album and I think every track on it is high quality. Such a great beat going!
Hello Baby - Sweet Robots Against The Machine This is from the 'Sushi 4004' compilation album. A mix of Japanese music from the Shibuya Kei movement. So much fun, like turntabilism mixed with 60s bossanova and 70s funk! So much fun to listen to.
'Benedictus' from Mass No.7 in C Major K.167 - Mozart I just can't get enough of Choral music and I purchased the entire collection of Mozart's sacred works from iTunes (235 tracks) for about £30 - 12p a track which i don't think was too bad. His work is always so clever, relaxing and spirit uplifting. They are all unique but can't say I remember listening to this particular track before.
Preludio no. 9 in Mi Major - The Swingle Singers These guys are geniuses from the 60s/70s(?) - before I was born anyway but amazing harmonies and they've turned Bach's pieces into great jazz tunes!
Return of the Loop Digger - Quasimoto Madlib/Quasimoto is another hip-hop genius. Fantastic producer. Great beats and samples but fun and playful rhymes.
Excellent - my ipod didn't let me down and as a result I'm feeling in a great mood from such uplifting music!:o

This is a hard one...probably the most recent tracks I have listened to.
Hamburg Song - Keane. My favourite band. Absolutely stunning sound to this track.
Twenty Four Hours - Athlete - Another fantastic track from a great band.
Kreuzberg - Bloc Party - My favourite from their latest album. Very very unique sound.
Songbird - Eva Cassidy - The most beautiful voice I have ever heard.
Hide & Seek - Imogen Heap - I love the electronic sound of her music. This one is my favourite.
How many am I allowed? :p

Underwater! - Death Cab For Cutie
I love Death Cab, but had forgotten about this song...
Bittersweet - James Taylor
Uhm.. Yeah, I'm a closet James Taylor fan...
Somebody Like You - Keith Urban
S***. This thing is revealing all of my secret likes. Pop country = yum.
End of The World - Cold
Takes me back to like 10th grade, haha.
Desperately Wanting - Better Than Ezra
Great song by a great band.
Is that the most random shuffle ever or what? I guess that's what happens when you put 35GBs on random, lol

Pass In Time - Beth Orton
A duet with Terry Callier from 'Central Reservation'.
The Sea - Morcheeba
The wonderful opening track from the chilled out album 'Big Calm'.
Fools In Love - Goran Gora
I've never heard of them - it's from last years South by Southwest music festival showcase download - but it's a catchy tune!
Twelfth Of Never (Live) - Jeff Buckley
A gorgeous live recording from the 'Live at Sin-é' album.
Nothing'severgonnastandinmyway (Again) - Wilco
A great track from a great album that brings back memories of a good summer!

Okay--I'm double dipping too with my black 4 GB iPod nano...
Long Live The King / The Byrds - somewhat cool David Crosby song from the Byrds 1973 reunion album, bitching about fame. I love the Byrds, esp. w/ Crosby.
Future Foe Scenarios / Silversun Pickups - I believe they are the best new rock band around, hands down. Such a cool sound.
(Don't Fear) The Reaper / Blue Oyster Cult - Uncommonly brilliant old hit single, undisputedly classic.
Monkey Man / Rolling Stones - From my favorite Stones album Let It Bleed. Awesome riffs. I believe Keith Richards played all the guitars on this record for the first and only time and it's amazing.
Pedestal / Portishead - From Dummy. One of the greatest groups of all time. Beth Gibbon's voice is incredibly sexy. Long past time for a new record from them.

This is a great idea. :)
Broken Toy - Keane
I prefer keane's first album... but this one's still pretty good.
Title Track - Death Cab for Cutie
DCFC's probably my favorite band.
Auf Achse - Franz Ferdinand
This is from Franz Ferdinand's original album. It has a really nice beat and the lyrics really speak to me. I saw them live with DCFC last april and they were fantastic.
Purple Stain - Red Hot Chili Peppers
I really like this song and I'm not quite sure why. Haven't heard it in forever. My sister's absolutely obsessed with them... I surprised her with RHCP tickets earlier this year (the show sold out quickly and she thought we missed them). We had a great time.
Squeeze Me - Louis Armstrong
I'm absolutely obsessed with old jazz... there's nothing quite like it.

I like things like this. there's a short bit in every Rolling Stone issue where they ask some star or celebrity or something to do this. I always get a kick out of it. I'll play, too!
another green world - brian eno
Very short title track from a really great chilled ambient album from the master. brian eno makes me smile.
don't give up - peter gabriel
You'd think my itunes is pulling tracks that are somehow related just to taunt... hmm... lovely, spooky, uplifting gabriel track.
making plans for nigel - nouvelle vague
I could listen to these sultry french ladies cover anything in bossa nova tunes- but here, it's a perfectly nice update of the XTC song.
tracks of my tears johnny rivers
aaaaah yes. old weeper. reminds me of sadder days as a kid. kind of cheesy nowadays, but man, i love it.
picture on my wall - echo and the bunnymen
not actually super familiar with this track from echo. oh well. it's fun.
thanks, fun times!

1) love removal machine the cult
the cult was probably the best thing to come out of the 80's... i was THERE so i should know. :p
2) rocketpop! tripping daisy
*shrugs* i really dig the debut album. it's funny but this first album really reminds me of the foo-fighters (ducks incoming from REAL foo fighter fans)
3) billy jack bitch prince
one of my FAVORITE workout songs! can't go wrong with prince anytime! he's one funky mo-fo!
4) wild flower the cult
what can i say..? i have a lot of cult on my iPod

Awesome, I knew Keane were gaining a small fanbase in the US, but I had no idea Franz were gaining popularity.
I wouldn't generalize the US popularity of a band based on my tastes... but yeah, they do seem to be gaining popularity. Take Me Out was quite popular here and seems to have introduced alot of people to a fantastic band.
Figured I'd run through another five songs. Sorry... this is just so much fun I couldn't resist.
Revolution - Bob Marley & The Wailers
My anthro prof freshmen year was obsessed with rastafarians. I felt it was only appropriate to start listening to reggae. Glad that I did.
WP - Matisyahu
More reggae (I love shuffle)... this time from a Hasidic Jew instead of a Jamaican. I like him just as much as Bob Marley.
Perfect - Guster
I find Guster to be very relaxing.
Drop That Sack (Rare Take) - Louis Armstrong
More Louis Armstrong :) Why can't new bands have such awesome names for songs?
When the Sun Goes Down - Arctic Monkeys
This album is so much fun. It never gets old.

I've been enjoying this so much I've had a second go...
Coming Up - Cornershop
From 'When I Was Born For The Seventh Time' which was also home to the original version of 'Brimful Of Asha' - later a big hit in Fatboy Slim's remix version. Good stuff that I haven't played for a while.
Kickin' Back On The Surface Of Your Cheek - Enter Shikari
One of the B-Sides of the current single. This band are a particular favourite of young Miss Calculus and I like them too.
Telegram Sam - T.Rex
Wow! The first band I ever saw live - the week that this was released as a single! Still sounding great to these ears.
Long Life Love - Stereolab
A seven minute track from a Stereolab singles boxed set. I love them.
Sounds From Levi - Augustus Pablo
From 'East Of The River Nile'. Fantastic dub from Mr. Pablo who is one of my all time favourite reggae artists.
My iPod did really well this time.

Mar 17, 2007, 11:41 PM
Jinx - Green Day
Never heard this song before in my life.
Game Over - Koji Kondo
Sounds cooler than it is. It's just the game over tune from Zelda: Majora's Mask
Yoshi's Cookie - Koji Kondo
Part of a CD I got this past christmas which has all the mario music from the NES
Anxiety - Nobuo Uematsu
Part of the Final Fantasy VII soundtrack, the first video game sound track I bought off iTunes
Jumble, Jumble - The White Stripes
Never heard this one before either, but I do love the White Stripes
Um, can I have a rematch? This is not an accurate representation of what's on my iPod.
Edit: AHHH, I just went through the next 7 songs in the shuffle, the first 6 are from video games and the 7th one was Avril Lavigne.
I AM NOT A NERD!!!!!! Bear in mind, we're talking a total of 1871 songs in total on my iPod, so....

It's interesting that you have songs you've never heard before, ghall. I, for one, loves me some Jumble, Jumble. I'll follow suit and give a second go, too; this shuffle went a bit better than the last.
Your Southern Can is Mine - The White Stripes
Heeee... Love it!
Kiss Me - Sixpence None the Richer
Not much to say about this one. It's a top 40 hit that was overplayed, but I still enjoy it. One of those songs that points to my adolescent years.
Cross Bones Style - Cat Power
After being introduced to Chan Marshall's music a few years ago, I must say that she's become warmly received to my iPod. This is the first iTunes song I purchased, and it catapulted me into finding more of hers.
Forever For Her (Is Over For Me) - The White Stripes
Seeing as though a quarter of my iPod's songs are either live or studio/b-side iterations of the White Stripes, it makes sense to see another.
Revolution - The Beatles
I have to say that I've dragged my feet on listening to The Beatles. My conception of their music, and when I heard this song that conception just melted away. What an amazing band and piece of songwriting.
What a fun thread! :)

Jolene - The White Stripes
My fifth was actually another live version of Jolene by the White Stripes, but I skipped over it.
Jumble, Jumble - The White Stripes
Forever For Her (Is Over For Me) - The White Stripes
Well, we certainly like Jack and Meg round these parts!:D

Mar 18, 2007, 01:58 PM
Go on then, I'll play... :)
The following are the first five random picks from my iPod, which contains my entire iTunes library minus some of Miss Jaffa Cake's more, ahem, dubious tracks.
Friday I'm In Love – The Cure
A classic Cure track to begin with, then. No complaints so far.
Tied Up Too Tight (Live Version) – Hard-Fi
I'm quite into Hard-Fi at the moment, and I'm always a sucker for alternative versions of songs I like.
Get Myself Arrested – Gomez
One of my favourite Gomez tracks – and one of the most frequently played of all the songs in my iTunes library.
There She Goes Again – The Velvet Underground
A little dark perhaps, but quite a nice little tune none the less. If memory serves, I got it on a compilation CD a friend sent me...
All I Want For Christmas Is A Dukla Prague Away Kit (Live Version) – Half Man Half BiscuitQuite apt given my 'tar, I suppose – teenage angst meets Subbuteo.
So there you go.

I Breathe In, I Breathe Out- Chris Cagle
I normally adore Chris Cagle. but a friend got me this song. Go figure it's the one song of his I don't like. It's ok,I guess.... but I like his other work.
Chariots of Fire- Vangelis
Yeah, I was bored out of my mind that day....
Live Wire- AC/DC
Ah, finally a good song. This is a good pump up for me.
Lick it Up- KISS
Meh...I listen to it a lot, but I'm not quite sure why....
She's got balls-AC/DC
Look, I don't listen to every song on every album I upload.
Ugh...that didn't turn out so well.

Fade In That Blank - New Young Pony Club
I saw then live in November last year and bought the 'Ice Cream - EP' from the iTunes Store straight after. Great pop music.
Lovely Rita - The Beatles
It's The Beatles. It's from 'Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band'. What more do you need to know?
Glosoli - Sigur Ros
The purveyors of the most beautiful noise. (It also had a tremendously affecting video.)
You Know What I Want To Know - David Kitt
I bought the album after hearing the single 'Song From Hope St. (Brooklyn N.Y.)' on Mark and Lard's Radio 1 show.
Don't Die Just Yet - David Holmes
For me it's the standout track on the classic album 'Let's Get Killed'.

First five songs on 30GB ipod on shuffle:
Wake Up Call - Phil Collins
Not really that great of a song from him, but love Phil & Genesis.
All I Wanna Do - Sheryl Crow
Great live rendition of this song from the concert in Central Park. This takes me back to the summer after high school.
Black Rock - O.A.R.
Awesong song, especially live. These guys are one of my favorite bands. If you ever get a chance to see them live, do it! This version happens to be from the 34th & 8th album.
Xerxes' Final Offer - Music from the Motion Picture 300
It's always a pleasant surrprise when an instrumental piece from a soundtrack pops up, especially when not expecting. Nice track from a fantastic movie.
Bold As Love - John Mayer
Great bluesy track from Continuum. Not a bad track on this whole album.
Glad none of the embarassing stuff that can be found on my iPod popped up.

On my 2G revB Silver Shuffle today...
All I Really Want - Jagged Little Pill Acoustic - Alanis Morisette
The violin and sitar are exquisite
Radiation Vibe - Fountains of Wayne - Fountains of Wayne
Pure pop for the people.
Scarlet Begonias > Touch of Grey > Fire on the Mountain - Greek Theatre 7/13/94 - Grateful Dead
The off-the-cuff transitions are just exquisite, as are the reactions from the crowd.
Cello Suite #1 In G, S 1007 - Bach: Six Suites For Unaccompanied Cello - Yo-Yo Ma
Chillingly beautiful.
I Know Why - Wildflower (ripped from the acoustic DVD) - Sheryl Crow
I can't understand why this version wasn't released as an audio track. Beautiful.

The Hush - Texas
- Woot! Texas is my favourite band. Not very well known in North America, which is a real real shame.
The Red Flower of Tachai Blooms Everywhere - Steve Hackett
- no idea what this song is or how it got on my iPod.
Candle in the Wind - Elton John
- Marilyn Monroe rocks. So does Princess Diana
This Magic Moment - The Drifters
- I love old classics from the 50's 60's and early 70's. Those old farts had great musical tastes.
Audio Delite - Black Eyed Peas
- from their remix album, not very good.

my first exposure to Bill Laswell, and a keeper
Party Hard - Andrew W.K.
makes me want to run out into the street and stop a car with my fist
Burning My Soul - Dream Theater
love that double bass drumming, Mr. Portnoy
all in all, nothing embarrassing in there. <whew!>:)

All Along The Watchtower
Jimi Hendrix
Cool song, gotta love the guitar solo too.
Back In The U.S.S.R
The Beatles
This song is weird, but still kept me in with a catchy melody and chorus
Silver and Gold
U2
Great B-side, especially the live version. Love the guitar in this too, but, of course, I love Edge.
Comfortably Numb
Pink Floyd
My favorite song from The Wall. One of the greatest songs I think.
An Cat Dubh/Into The Heart
U2
I love this song on Boy, I think it absolutely gives you that 3 in the mornin' Dublin feel.

Make Me Smile - Chicago
Great choice, crunchy horns, good beat, powerful vocal, all around fantastic song.
Bubbles - System of a Down
Ooh. . . I'm so very sorry! I went through a metal phase a couple of years ago. This is terrible even by thrash metal standards.
25 Or 6 To 4 - Chicago
iTunes must really love Chicago, apparently. Another great track.
Slip Kid- The Who
Here we go! The Who is one of the best bands ever, IMHO. Great overlooked track from their (also overlooked) album The Who By Numbers.
She's A Woman - The Beatles
Verrrrrry nice! iTunes has redeemed itself from the System of a Down fiasco. Great Beatles b-side.

Five Years Dead - Motley Crue
Not one of my favourite songs, but I'm glad it came up as I was a big glam/trash fan many years back and still enjoy his kind of thing. Saw the Crue about 15 years ago and then again a couple of years back on their recent tour. They're still a class live act...
Debaser - Pixies
Along with The Smiths, the greatest band to ever walk the earth. As much as I love this, it's a little over-played and Gouge Away is my favourite Pixies song...
There Is A Light That Never Goes Out - The Smiths
I can't believe this one came up! No-one who knows me would believe I didn't cheat to get this one in. One of the most important songs in my life...
Forklift - Pavement
The early Pavement stuff like this was the best. This is a great tune, but then anything from the early these singles through Slanted & Enchanted, Crooked Rain and Wowee Zowee would have been welcome here.
Love Letter - Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
I've been a Nick Cave fan since The Birthday Party, but this song isn't one of my favourites to be honest. The album it's off, No More Shall We Part, is actually my least favourite Nick Cave album. I wish The Ship Song, Tupelo or The Carny had come up instead so I could have raved about one of my idols!

Sure, I'll play. :)
Take My Life - Jeremy Camp
Ehh, this song got old and I don't really listen to it anymore. I heard it in the car on the way home from church today, though.
Savior - Skillet
One of those fleshed-out rock songs. It's also kinda haunting too. I still think it's pretty cool, although there's a radio remix of it that I like better. The remix takes the energy down a notch or two and has some extra verses and slightly different instrumental parts. I really wish I could find it and download it somewhere.
Can't Buy Me Love - The Beatles
Gotta love the Beatles :D. Not much to say about this song, other than it's catchy.
Suburban Home / I Like Food - Taking Back Sunday
From the Tony Hawk's American Wasteland soundtrack, it's a cover of 2-songs-in-one, both originally by The Descendants. Taking Back Sunday does an excellent job of charging this otherwise bland-ish song full of energy and senseless, screaming, headbanging-ness. :D
Poor Tom - Led Zeppelin
yes... Led Zeppelin came up in the last try :D. It's off the "Coda" album, made from unreleased Zep tracks after John Bonham died, and I also learned it was originally supposed to be on Led Zeppelin III. It's also one of my favorites. It's basically about a psychic guy named Tom (ain't no thing that you can hide from Tom), whose wife cheats on him, so he shoots her and he gets the death penalty. At least that's my interpretation of it, but I don't know where the inspiration for it came from. It's also got a really nice drumming part. :D

Charlie - Red Hot Chili Peppers
The Red Hot Chili Peppers are probably my favourite non-rappers, and this is one of my favourite songs by them.
Spaceship - Kanye West, GLC
Kanye West at his usual high standard.
London Underground - The Amateur Transplants (http://http://solo2.abac.com/themole/london_underground_song.htm)
A really funny song which is exactly how everyone who uses the tube regularly must feel. Here is a short sample of the lyrics: (children avert your eyes or get ready to have your small minds corupted)
What you smell is what you get
Burger King and piss and sweat
You roast to death in the boiling heat,
With tourists treading on your feet
and chewing gum on every seat,
so don't tell me to "Mind the gap"
I want my ****ing money back.
London Underground

They're all greedy ****s I want to shoot them all with a rifle

Touch It (Remix 3) - Busta Rhymes, Lloyd Banks & Papoose
If not for Papoose, this song would only be ok, but because of him it is an excellent song.
Flo' Fashion - Sway
One of the biggest hits of the UK's best rapper.
The Jump Off - Mos Def & Ludacris
Another good song, but could you expect anything less from Mos Def & Ludacris? Rhetorical question, rap haters.

They Horror Cosmic - The Black Dahlia Murder
A nice death metal song. I just put the CD on there, so its the first time its been played on my iPod.
Gilderoy Lockhart - John Williams
Never listened to the song.....ripped a Harry Potter soundtrack, never listened to it.
Closing Time - Semisonic
Great song that reminds me of my younger days during summertime.
King for a Day - XTC
A catchy song thats poppy enough to clash with my regular metal.
Anuerysm - Nirvana
I like the beginning part of the song. The rest of it after about a minute, I'll just change it.

Wheel of Fortune Hans Zimmer Pirates of the Caribbean

Black Satin Miles David Finding Forrester
Haven't heard it for a while. Any rendering by Miles David is a must. Brain, body, soul. From a great soundtrack.
The Cigar And The Man Who Smoked It, Ramachandra Borcar Presents The Stacked Deck, Steel And Glass (Original Soundtrack To The Film "Regular Or Super"
I like the noirish take on electronica/jazz and better than his Ramasutra-titled work as DJ Ram. A local (Montreal) gem, not to be found on iTunes. Too bad.
True Colors Cyndi Lauper The Body Acoustic
Beautiful lyrics awsomely sung
The Car Song The Cat Empire Two Shoes Special Edition
Why this is genre-ed as Rock I don't know. Has more of an alternative/jazzy/hip-hop feel to me.

2. Loving the Alien - Velvet Revolver
A good song. I like, but it makes me fall asleep.
3. Shine - Collective Soul
I've listened to them for years. One of the ultimate hard working & talented bands. Doesn't hurt that they are masters of songwriting, either.

Catchy, sexual. Great song. He must have the greatest voice I've ever heard.
5. Psycho Circus - KISS
My all-time favorite band, and this song is probably in the top 10 of my favorite. The KISS Symphony: Alive IV version is the best.

Don't make fun of me for my music choices please... :o
London Bridge by Bread: I just discovered Bread about a month ago. They are pretty good.
Mirror Man by The Human League: They are fantastic too, with the exception of Fascination. From the 1988 Greatest Hits Album.
Fill My Eyes by Cat Stevens (Yusaf now) from the Mona Bone Jakon album. Cat Stevens's songs are so catchy in their own way you know...
Have Yourself a Merry Christmas By Gloria Estefan from her 1993 Christmas Album. I love this album of hers. Gloria is a great singer.
Lives in The Balance by Jackson Browne from his 1997 album The Next Voice You Hear Jackson Browne is so catchy and his songs are intelligent, too.
I guess I like the older music, and not the stuff usually associated with my generation.
Edit: I seem to have forgotten one, so here goes...
Flamenco Sketches by Miles Davis, Kind of Blue Self explanatory!

Udham Singh - Avtar Music
- from a two disc Bollywood Music collection, specifically from the second disc which electronic beats an Indian instruments which I have a thing for. Only the second disc is in my collection. Nothing special about this track but other tracks on the album are outstanding.
Gone, Gone, Gone - Miles Davis
- title pretty much describes the song. Sad little melody played by one of the greatest artists of all time. From his Porgy and Bess album.
Bless the Child - Nightwish
- one of my favorite songs from one of my favorite bands. Power metal with a symphonic feel matched with operatic vocals.
Tears in the Rain - Joe Satriani
- short acoustic melody. No fancy guitar theatrics just a short good sounding tune.
Speak of the Devil - Chris Isaak
- he has some good songs on his greatest hits collection. This one is one of my faves but the CD doesn't make me want to listen to a whole album of his. Great retro rock vibe.
those are my five, maybe I'll do this again after I add some Depeche Mode and Seemless and see what comes up. From my 80 Gig by the way.

These are all on my iPod shuffle:
Natural Anthem - The Postal Service
A very good song, very acoustical that builds up and up at the beginning. Quite a bit of bass included.
Me and Mr. Jones - Amy Winehouse
Ok, this song is starting to give me a headache. I liked it at the beginning, but not right now. Especially since she was drunk at a concert and spat at the fans when they booed her.
Push - Madonna
I love this whole damn album. I like this song because it is actually somewhat true to life. Very instrumental as well.
Let It Will Be - Madonna (The Confessions Tour Version)
Once again, I love her recent albums. This one is also a lot quicker/snappier than the one on her Confessions on a Dance Floor album.
Hung Up - Madonna
I'm a hell of a Madonna fan apparently. This is once again true, has a very snappy and quick beat, and never gets tiring. I must have listened to this song at least 300-400+ times and you know what? It never gets old.
These are all on my 3rd Gen 20GB iPod:
Pump It Up - Joe Budden
Wow. I used to like this song. Now I hate it. Just reminds me of The Fast and The Furious too much.
Lose My Breath - Destiny's Child
Still a pretty good song. Lots and lots of bass.
I Like to Move It - Madagascar 5
I was inspired to buy this song because it was on one of the macTV mashup videos. And I like it!
Good Day - Angels & Airwaves
A very mellow beat. Although I am thoroughly creeped out by all the quite voices in the background at the beginning.
And for the grand finale...
Do You Believe In Life After Love? - Cher
The only reason I have this CD on my computer is because my dad wanted a copy of it and I don't have a CD duplicating piece of software on my computer. I am now going to go hide in the corner. :D

New list because my 80 broke so I got my 60 out of storage and had to cut out some of the albums I keep on my Mac.
Fallen - Symphony X
- woo! Prog Metal bay-bee!
Pow R. Toc H. - Pink Floyd
- not a big Pink Floyd fan but their first album is just too weird sounding for a guy like me to resist.
Big Me - Foo Fighters
- I love the Foo.
Okonkole y Tromp - Jaco Pastorius
- I don't know what to say. Its from Jaco's first solo record which I picked up after reading about him in a Bass Player magazine. Good tune too.
Halo - Depeche Mode
- weird. Last post said I would redo after I added some Depeche Mode and they pop up on the new list.

 i finally got a chance to update my playlist over the weekend and ended up with a lot of classical music, which isn't really odd in itself.. but i got a good laugh a bit ago because i was listening to "suite-pee" by system of a down which was immediately followed by the some of handel's water music.

From the 1G nano that refuses to mount or sync (the music selection is a good moth old now).
Quiet World - You Say Party! We Say Die!
Epic twenty-three minute indie fest. Yay!
Skeleton Song - Kate Nash
I have no idea why Made Of Bricks is getting slated by many of the UK critics. If you haven't heard of Miss Nash, I suggest checking this song out on iTunes; it's the best of the album.
Charmer - Kings Of Leon
Gotta love that baseline. :D
C**try Boys & City Girls - The Fratellis
Third favorite song off the album, only preceded by Creepin' Up The Backstairs and Henrietta.
****** Ups - The Holloways
I'm a little scared about posting this song 'cause, well, yeah. *Hides from mods* Reminds me of this year's Glasto. :)
That's probably going to be the last use of that iPod since it's getting replaced with an 80GB classic. :D
These are all on my iPod shuffle:
Natural Anthem - The Postal Service
A very good song, very acoustical that builds up and up at the beginning. Quite a bit of bass included.
I love The Postal Service! Shame really that every single song from Give Up reminds me of my girlfriend who I now won't see until Christmas...

Gosh, from reading this thread I realized how much dreadful music is out there, lol. Now can any of you believe I have never put any of my music on shuffle on any of my ipods??!!...this was very fun to do though! I am wondering how it does this because I had several artists play back to back.
Here was my list on my 80 GB ipod:
Friday Night - LILY ALLEN
Not one of my favs by her but I do love most of her songs! :)
Behind Blue Eyes - Limp Bizkit Greatest Hits
OH MY GOSH, this is just random and I must have been in some weird mood to ever download this CD. I did used to run on my treadmill back in the day to Limp Bizkit. :o
Sticks and Stones - Babyshambles
My favorite band and I like everything by them. :)
What Katy Did Next - Babyshambles
Same as above. :)
Think I'm in Love - Beck
This was the only song on this particular album that I didn't like, but I do love Beck! :)
It was interesting to see what kept playing so I am writing the next five songs!
France - The Libertines
They are together no more but I listen to them all the time and I never sick of their music. :)
Yummy - Gwen Stefani
The song is ok...I like Gwen enough as a person to buy her music but not crazy about it.
Mental Concentration - Track 3
This is one of those CD's I bought at Target to calm me down and help me focus better at work, lol. :p
Sea Anemone- Jets to Brazil
Just a good heartbreak song to play over and over and over again when you are miserable. :(
Bring on the Summer - Josh Martinez and the Chicharones
This song was on a really cool CD to probably party to and drink to, lol! :D
Principessa
Sep 20, 2007, 11:03 PM
Rufus Wainwright - The Art Teacher
Ah, what a way to start! This is possibily my favourite song in the entire world. Love love love. "There I was in uniform looking at the art teacher. I was just a girl then; never have I loved since then"
Hole - Plump
Courtney Love is a bit mad (understatment, lol) but I love her music. "They say I'm plump but I throw up all the time."
Elliott Smith - King's Crossing
Second favourite Elliott song (Twilight just wins out). Heartbreaking. :( "Give me one good reason not to do it (Because I love you)"
Rilo Kiley - 15
One of the few songs I love from their new album. "Our skin is like grass, let's smoke it real fast" <3
Sleater-Kinney - The Size of Our Love
S-K are usually way more hyper than this song, and I prefer usually Corin's vocals to Carrie's, but they fit this song perfectly. "Our love is the size of these tumors inside us."

DigIt - Skinny Puppy
This song brings back some pretty fun memories of days when there were still music video shows on television and a TV commercial featuring this song which was an anti drug song. The commercial showed a kid skate boarding off a flight of stairs and as he's flying off of them, it freezes and the words come on the screen saying Rise above drugs.
Cry Baby - Janis Joplin
I guess I have Janis on my iPod as a tribute to my mother who left us a year and a half ago. I remember being a young kid maybe 10 and my mom always blasting Janis of the old record player. Good times, great memories.
I still Remember - Gary Numan
Yes the man who wrote the 80s classic, Cars. I had purchased the picture disk of this album back in the 80s and was so impressed with it that it was so full of pops from being played a zillion times. Many people don't know he is still putting out music (dark metal) to this day and touring including America recently.
Damned For all Time / Blood Money - Jesus Christ Superstar
Another classic that I grew up listening to and I think I have every version of this released to date. I even have a few of the movie versions on my iPod.
Born Under Punches - The Talking Heads
A classic album again from the age of the music video in the 80s. Classic album, highly recommended!
Desperados Waitin for the train - Jerry Jeff Walker
An excellent tear jerker, highly recommended.

Suicide Solution - Ozzy Osbourne
This is just a good song. Great guitar and vocals by Ozzy himself as always.
The Way I Are - Timbaland/Keri Hilson/D.O.E
Pretty cool rap song. Kind of technoish. Haven't heard this song in a while.
Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad - Moby
Great piano and an all around good feeling/depressing song. Very nice beat as well as lyrics. One of the first albums I bought.
Guitar Flute And String - Moby....again alrighty then. It's an alright song I guess. but to be honest I really don't like it and should take it off.
In Pieces - Linkin Park - This is off their new album Minutes To Midnight. It is an interesting step in a different direction for them. A softer mellower song then is generally normal for them. It also has an electronic background and tempo which is refreshing.

Easily one of my favourite softer Limbeck songs.

The first song i ever learnt on guitar.

With it's hypnotic acoustic guitar underlay and touching lyrics, overall a great production.
4. Bright Eyes - Jason Mraz
The first song i had heard from Jason.
5. Down With Sickness - Disturbed
Love the drums at the start of this track.

Nice reggae song, not the type my ipod is full off, but i like it.
A hard day's Night - Beatles
Joy song, again not really the style my ipod is full off, but they're pretty famous.
Rebel Rebel - David Bowie
It's my only song from David Bowie, but i got it from the CD named "The Best Air Guitar Album in The World Ever" from a Belgium magazine called Humo (Humo.be) , and it's actually a pretty good, song!!
Enter Sandman - Metallica
More my stylen but i've only got 3 songs from Metallica, and a good song real rock !

The Postal Service - Natural Anthem
Okay, well. This song is the last off the album 'Give Up' It's one of my favourites.
Incubus - Earth To Bella Part 2
I dislike this song very much. It's only on my iPod because I like to have full albums.
The Hidden Cameras - Awoo
Brilliant 'feel-good' song. I recommend that everyone listens to it.
Beatdrop - Style Free
This song is amazing. Without a doubt. Can't beat a bit of electronica/techno on the walk to Uni in the morning.
No Eyed Deer - Waiting
Erm. This is my band...One of our better songs, along with the rest of our newer 'batch'.

Ok - After getting my hands on some pretty good music from this thread, I feel its only fair I give it a shot too, though to be perfectly honest i'm kinda terrified at what will come up...
On my 16GB Touch:
Lose Control // Missy Elliot
- Not normally my "style" but that line is just gold on so many levels "Music makes me lose control!"
Not Many // Scribe
- Wow, two rap / hip-hop songs in a row, really not my style... I'd generally skip this song, though its not bad as far as rap goes.
Flagpole Sitta // Harvey Danger
- I really got into this song a couple of months back, but since then I haven't really listened to it much.
Into the Dark // Ben Lee
- Uhhh, not too bad a song, but not one that would go into my normal playlists
Little Miss Lover // Jimmy Hendrix Experience
- Its Hendrix, what can I say. Not my favourite, but any hendrix is better than none...
Wow - that could of certainly gone worse, but it really doesnt reflect my tastes whatsoever.
I'm gonna give it another go on my 80 gigger (which has some really out there stuff on it)...
World of Hurt // Ilse Delange
- Never heard it in my life, so I'm not gonna comment on this one.
The Good, the Bad and the Queen // The Good, the Bad and the Queen
- Not my favourite song of their debut album, but its ok for a play every now and then
Funkytown // Lipps, Inc.
- Heh - Cheesy? Hells yes. Catchy? Damn straight. That one's a keeper.
Water Song // Colin Hay
- I love most of Colin Hay's work, though Overkill is by far his best song in my opinion.
Kiss from a Rose // Seal
- Muhahahhahahahhahah... This song is pure genius. I don't really know what else to say about this one.
Well the second shot was better, i guess. Still feel ripped off none of my regulars showed up. (That said, kiss from a rose is one of my most played songs, though thats more to annoy my colleagues at work than anything else)

Sure I'll play along...
1.) Binary Star - Conquistadors
These guys are superb lyricists, too bad they split up
2.) Jamiroquai - Funktion
What more can you say about this dude that hasn't already been said
3.) Beastie Boys - Futterman's Rule
Too bad they got hardcore political with their lyrics, it used to be about having fun, now I have to listen to their political views too. I know that a big part of writing music is about what affects you currently, but sheesh, I listen to music to get away from the BS every so often. </rant>
4.) Nightmares on Wax - You Wish
Not my favorite of downtempo/acid jazz/triphop/whatevergenre, but not the worst either. Prolly should remove them since I skip over them way too much.
5.) Honesty DJ - DJ Wreckx
I have a fetish for cutting and scratching on turntables, so I listen to this sorta stuff ALL the time, especially when I can get compilation records, it definitely exposes you to different styles of turntablism.
6.) Rich Boy - Throw Some D's (remix version by Andre 3000)
Hah, you hit next and boom you get some southern ghetto rap (yes I'm from Alabama, and my Dad's side of the family lives a few exits up from where Rich Boy grew up in the hood)

Torn Self-Dead To Fall
Great opening song. Great upbeat sound to it, nice beat and rythm ;)
Teeth Like G_d's Shoeshine-Modest Mouse
Definatly an underappreciated Modest Mouse song (though i suppose you could say that for just about every song not on there last 2 albums)
Think Long-Modest Mouse
Great song. From Modest Mouse's extremely experimental CD. Great album.
Down With The Sickness-Disturbed
An overplayed song (once upon a time) but none the less an amazing song. Sick, but great..ballad...
What's The Frequency Kenneth-REM
Brilliant song. Could listen to this song for hours. REM knows how to make good music.

 This week, I purchased every disk that Laibach has available on iTunes. Very unusual stuff there. I even have an old one from 1988 that Laibach did called Let It Be. Interestingly enough, there is no Let It Be on the disk but some strange versions of those other Beatles tracks. :D

I love this song. It's not one of his more famous ones but still one of my favourites

Eh, it was on an album I bought, I don't really listen to it.
Message In A Bottle - The Police

Burnin' For You - Blue Oyster Cult
Excellent! This is my absolute favorite song, I could listen to this for hours. I love the guitar riff in the chorus.

2. Cupids Chokehold - Gym Class Heroes

3. Got to be real - Cheryl Lynn (album Les bains Vol.2 First floor)
A album from my dad actually, but the best of my dad!! nice song, if you hear it, you'll probably recognize it... the other songs on that album are good too.

I might have a second go, seeing as how my previous effort was way back in March...
A Man Needs A Maid/Heart Of Gold Suite – Neil Young
A live concert recording from 1971 of an early version of a song that later ended up as two separate ones. The Live At Massey Hall album this is from is full of stuff like this – early versions of songs that underwent a few changes before they were properly released – which I always enjoy hearing.
Oh Larsen B – British Sea Power
An ode to Antarctica's now sadly disintegrated Larsen B ice shelf by one of my favourite bands.
Scummy – Arctic Monkeys
Curiously enough, we go from the Antarctic to the Arctics! A demo version of their popular hit When The Sun Goes Down.
Sliced Tomatoes – Just Brothers
A bit of classic Northern Soul, probably more famous nowadays for being sampled by Fatboy Slim in The Rockafeller Skank.
Velvet Goldmine – David Bowie
I like a bit of glam era Bowie, so it's no surprise that I rather like this song.
Osarkon

Okay let's give this another go..
Icewarm - InMe
Such an old song off their first album, still my favourite album from them and a great song.
Mechanic God Creation - Arch Enemy
Off one of the better albums, I've been listening to them quite a bit recently.
Wasted Years - Iron Maiden
One of my favourite Maiden songs, this shuffle is going alright.
Lost Northern Star - Tarja Turunen
Off the solo album of Nightwish's old singer, the song isn't that amazing, but it's nice to have.
Lenny Kravitz - Electric Six
Some good old Electric Six to finish off, the song's off their latest album which I love.

Keep Yourself Alive - Queen
This is the first song on Queen's first album, I love it. It wasn't much of a hit when it came out.
Now I'm Here (Reprise) - Queen
This is a live reprise of Now I'm Here. It's kind of short, but a great end to a great song.
Keep Yourself Alive - Queen
This is a live version of their first song, done in 1981. It leads into a drum/timpani solo then a guitar solo using delays and chorus effects--Brian May's signature.
Battle Theme - Queen
A song from their soundtrack on the Flash Gordon Movie.
Body Language - Queen
Sort of a pop/funk song. It's not my favorite but it's kinda cool :)
The reason all of these are Queen is because I decided to dedicate my Nano to my queen discography because of space restraints.

The Killjoy by Insomnium
Overall a great song by a great band. Lately i've been addicted to this album.
Route 666 by Helltrain
This band is very catchy, and i could listen to this song over and over again.
The New Build by Dark Tranquillity
I've been listening to this album for a while, and let me say this song never gets old.
Joel by Heaven Shall Burn
This one is off of their new album, just barely got to listening to it. The funny thing is this is probably my least favorite song off the album.
Strife (Chug Chug) by As Blood Runs Black
Man what a great song, nothing gets me in the mood for a good mosh pit like this one.
As you can see i'm a metal head, i just can't get enough.

Some Velvet Morning - Lee Hazlewood w/Nancy Sinatra
baroque pop from the coolest man to come out of the state of OK (after myself, and chet baker coming in at #3)...covered by, among others Nick Cave and Lydia Lunch
In These Times - The Fall
what befits a random list than a random broadside from Captain Chaos himself: Mark E Smith
Honey Bee-The Asteroid No. 4
This and the 'Their Satanic Majesties Second Request' album by the Brian Jonestown Massacre really make me want a sitar..from the space captains of the 'psychedelphia' scene
Don't Come Home a Drinkin' (With Lovin On Your Mind)- Loretta Lynn
just three chords and the truth, ma'am
Kaleidoscope - Ride
from 1990's Nowehere LP...the best album by the best shoegaze outfit of the early 90's (this one really brings back some memories)
Fun Fact: once got called a 'fag' by some rednecks for wearing a Ride T-shirt

Crows(from The Vile Village) - The Gothic Archies
Fun & catchy faux goth from members of The Magnetic Fields.
What Do You Do - The Proclaimers
Something else from the Scottish twins that sang '500 Miles." Unfortunately underrated duo.
Hold It Now, Hit It - The Beastie Boys
Classic B-Boys.
Number 9 Train - Tarheel Slim
For my money, you can't go wrong with an old rockabilly band singin' about trains.
Mona Lisa - Carl Mann
Swell bit of hillbilly croonin' from the SUN label.

Happy Days - Silk
I've always liked R&B from th 90's as that's what I grew up listening to, just loved the harmonies and the beats in the songs. This one is just a catchy song that makes me want to dance.
Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas - Disney
Yes, yes, so I like Disney though can't say I like this song. The best song I've found on this album (got it from my parents as a gift when they came back from Disney World) is "Silent Night". That one I will put on repeat but not this one, mainly because of the vocals. There's just something about the vocals on this song that I'm not crazy about.
Games - New Kids On The Block
Another song from my childhood, and yes, I was an 80's child. Again, this one has a catchy beat that makes me want to dance. Plus I like the message behind it. It's got a positive message behind it as well, which was refreshing for me then and still is today.
Superfabulous - BT
I got this when I was interested in electronic music, and this song had an interesting beat. I don't listen to this as much as other songs I have on my iPhone though but still, it's nice knowing it's there if I want something different from what I tend to listen to.
When Will I See You Again - Brian McKnight ft. Fred Hammond
Admittedly, I've had this for a while in my collection but I've never listened to this song. So far, I'm liking the instrumental intro. It's very relaxing plus I love Brian's voice. This is definitely a keeper, a nice love song for a romantic dinner by candlelight.

Sweet Sacrifice (Evanescence)
One of my favorite bands by far, I love the album this is on "The Open Door" and I love this song.
Battle with the Fallen Angel (Yasunori Mitsuda)
Okay so this is actually a video game track, it's from the Japanese RPG PlayStation 2 game that is underrated "Shadow Hearts: Covenant". It's mainly music, but it's amazing.
Let Me Fall (Alexz Johnson)
So Alexz is a Canadian singer/actress, this song is from the first season of her show "Instant Star". Along with "Skin" this is one of the best tracks from that season.
This Is My Now (Jordin Sparks)
Okay, I like this song, but I'm actually kind of tired of it even if I haven't listened to it for a while. Not one of my favorite finale songs from Idol (I still prefer "A Moment Like This").
Love Is A Battlefield (Brooke White)
This is a live performance mp3 from American Idol Season Seven of Brooke White. It's a completely different version of this song, completely stripped down to a simple version, it's brilliant.

when i first got an iPod i was heavly into 90s gangster Hip Hop (not that Pop crap today) and now im really into electro/house so these two genres show up the most in shuffle. im also into rock, alternative rock and reggae.
heres my first 5 songs in shuffle
Together - Axwell & Sebastion Ingrosso
nice first song. this was one of my favourite club songs in 2006. Axwell is a sweet club DJ and producer. i highly recommend getting into his music. listen to "Feel The Vibe" and youll be hooked.
Every Time We Touch - Cascada
a techno anthem classic. dont really like it that much its just on here from a mix album i guess.
Thief's Theme - Nas
from Nas' previous album Street's Disciple. i bough this CD as i loved Nas' debut album Illmatic which is considered to be one of the greatest Hip Hop albums every produced. but his music quality has declined in recent years. this song is ok.
Jenny Was A Friend of Mine - Killers
From the Hot Fuss album. i like the songs Mr Brightside and Somebody Told Me from that album. this ones alright.
Nightmare - Brainbug
Crazy acid techno beat. listen to this one on a big night. that is all.
i hardly ever use the shuffle feature as the songs are just too random and i hardly ever listen to half of the 3244 songs on my 20 GB iPod. if i buy a nano or a shuffle i will probably use this feature a lot more. the only song that i would only listen to regularly in this list is Together. probably why its at number one?

This is the kind of thread I always end up discovering new music from.... it's the best thing about the "long tail" and music.... before u had to read in a magazine or hunt around in a record store to find something cool -- which made the choices always subject to the "gatekeeping" of editors and music store buyers and etc... -- which would lead inevitably to mediocrity and the prevalence of "poser music" -- i.e. stuff that you want to like because you think it's cool, not because you really like it. Music journalism especially creates high-profiles for really lame stuff, because journalists are always looking behind their backs, trying to profile something that they think in 2 years people will think they were cool for liking "way back when".... I GREATLY prefer the democratic nature of threads like these, where people simply list their tastes and you can just look something up on itunes or youtube and check it out for yourself....
... YO.. Finally figured out how to export a whole playlist from iTunes into text format -- nice!
Here's the whole thing! Song first, followed by artist......

I GREATLY prefer the democratic nature of threads like these, where people simply list their tastes and you can just look something up on itunes or youtube and check it out for yourself....
...
Did you read one of the previous posts before you did yours? You select the "Shuffle Songs" option on the iPod and post the first five songs that play and maybe write a lil something about them.

It's a guilty pleasure! :o

Great track from a great album.
Come Together - Blur
I loves me some Blur.
Jack-Ass - Beck

Orbital - The Saint from the album In Sides
Cool that this popped up. I really like this album, although I don't listen to it often and I don't have a lot of stuff in this genre.
Steve Morse Band - Slice of Time from the album Structural Damage
What a great guitarist. An excellent acoustic piece.
Queen - We Are The Champions from their Greatest Hits album
I like Queen, but this is one of their weakest tracks, imho.
Iron Maiden - Rime of the Ancient Mariner from the Powerslave album
Bruce and the boys. I can listen to them almost anytime, and this is one of their best.
U2 - Fast Cars from How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb
I don't think I've heard this track before. With the Complete U2 on my iPod, their stuff is bound to make an appearance. An okay track, kind of disposable.

More game music.
Heh, track 6 is one of my own... From my own game :D 7 was If you really love me by Stevie Wonder (more real music, huzzah). Next track was from Sonic 1 (Mega Drive).

DALY CITY TRAIN by Rancid
This is a great little tune from the "And Out Come The Wolves" album, the album that many of today's best Punk acts got their start on. I never get tired of this whole album, though I have to admit that Daly City Train is one of the weaker tracks.
Protex Blue by The Clash
I got started listening to Punk when I bought an album of Clash covers by some of the last few years bigger bands (311, Third Eye Blind, Silverchair, Rancid, etc) I liked the covers so much that I bought a CD of the Clash's greatest hits. That led to my obsession and now I have all their albums including the US and UK versions of their first one. This track is one of the reasons I bought them both, there are a few tracks on each that aren't on the other. (Protex blue is exclusive to the UK version)
10 YEARS OF SERVICE by the Dropkick Murphys
This is a pretty good song, though I have to admit that I've grown very tired of the Dropkick Murphys. If I still had my 4 GB Nano I'd probably not have any of them on it, but I've got a classic now so I don't pick and choose, instead I just sync everything. Dropkick Murphys were fun for a few months but they are pretty monotonous after a while, all their songs are so similar. Many bands are like that, but for some reason it seems worse with them.
Borstal Breakout by Sham 69
Another song I bought as I dug earlier and earlier into the Punk movement. Great song by the way, tough as nails!
The Jinx by Ignite (cover of an earlier Oi band that I can't remember)
This song isn't so good, but I got it as part of a CD of today's hardcore Punk bands covering the original hardcore punk band's tunes. There are a few great tracks by bands such as Bouncing Souls and Harley Cromag and friends on there. Hardcore in the US and Oi in the UK, I like it a lot! The Album is called "The Worldwide Tribute To The Real Oi" it's a two disk album. Oi Oi
Subterranean by Lars Frederiksen and the Bastards
Great song from an average record, if you like the hardcore and Oi genre like the album above, you'd like this album. A lot of screaming and overall lack of musicianship, but in the end none of that matters because the content of the songs and the attitude is the whole point of this genre. Lars Frederiksen is the rhythm guitarist of Rancid, and he's awesome. But his side project "The Bastards" is definitely not showcasing his talent.

This is why I never have my iPod on shuffle. As much as I love every single band I have on my iPod, sometimes they just don't go together as such.
Mediaeval Baebes - Alba Absolutely beautiful music. Traditional medieval songs sung in their traditional languages. The Mediaeval Baebes are utterly amazing to see live. So incredibly powerful.
Samesugas - (I ********) Betty Page A Turbonegro track covered by the Spanish punk band Samesugas for the Alpha Motherf**kers compilation. If you haven't heard Turbonegro yet and like punk/hard rock, do yourself a favor and check them out. Easily one of the best, most honest bands out there right now.
Freezepop - Manipulate (Mastermind Mix) Very catchy, very fun techno-geek electronica. I fell in love with Freezepop by playing the PS2 game Frequency.
Front 242 - Religion The true founders of Electronic Body Music. A classic that just does not get old. When you factor in that Richard 23 had his occupation on his passport listed as "Rock Superstar" how can you possibly go wrong?
Dimmu Borgir - Prudence's Fall Pretty straight forward, Norwegian Black metal. I would call this album, Enthrone Darkness Triumphant probably their best.

Sometimes(Instrumental) by And One
I don't know, sorta random! Didn't even know I still had this song. Very nice song though, give it a listen if you like bands like VNV Nation or Nine Inch Nails.
Super Charger Heaven by Rob Zombie
Not bad of a song at all. Haven't listened to it in a long time. Doesn't really fit my taste anymore, but it's bearable.
Eaten from Inside by Cannibal Corpse
It's just as fun as any Cannibal Corpse song.
Trapped by The Living End
Good song, I downloaded it after seeing The Living End at Warped Tour about two years ago. Nice vocals to it.

ooo, my turn
1. Give Me Shelter: The Rolling Stones Great song, great way to start
2. Remember the name: For Minor On my pump up playlist for lax, I know it's played a lot, but I kind of like it.
3. Tequila Sunrise: The eagles I've maybe listen to it once or twice, I like the eagles, but this isn't my favorite song from them
4. Vera: Pink Floyd I don't know what this is, I just listened to it and it's just like random talking, the wall is a great album though
5. Strip My Mind: Red Hot Chili peppers never listened to it

Spirit of '78 -- Golden Shoulders
Not my favorite Golden Shoulders song, it's pretty slow, but it has a nice little story and sort of a folky feel to it.
Honey Bear -- Yeah Yeah Yeahs
One of my favorites off of the "Show Your Bones" CD. It's pretty fun and has a pretty unclear meaning.
The Owls Go -- Architecture in Helsinki
I highly recommend this one, it's light and fun.
A.M. 180 -- Grandaddy
I don't quite know what to say for this one. It's got a fun and catchy tune though.
Big Dipper -- Built to Spill
Probably one of my favorite Built to Spills songs. I sing to it every time it comes on the stereo and has some awesome guitaring.

I like this experiment, althoug I'm afraid what might come up. if I put it on shuffle for the entire iPod (I have 9500 songs on it from all genres) it could be pretty embarassing....but let's go..
1) Gorillaz -Slow Country (haven't listenerd to any Gorillaz in quite a while)
2) Judas Priest - Electric Eye (I have a metal playlist called 'Smell The Glove", this must be on that)
3) Led Zeppelin - Black Dog
4) The Verve - Bittersweet Symphony - there was a time that i love the Verve, now not so much, although I still like the trippy stuff from the first 2 Cds.
5) 38 Special - Hold On Loosely - BINGO! I wouldn;t be caught dead listening to this song, but then why do I have it on my iPod you ask? I can't answer that.

A duet with Terry Callier from 'Central Reservation'.
The Sea - Morcheeba
The wonderful opening track from the chilled out album 'Big Calm'.
A great track from a great album that brings back memories of a good summer!

Seems like too good of a thread to let die.
Here's mine:
Tears For Fears: Shout
Journey/Steve Perry: Oh Sherry
Toto: I won't hold you back
Asia: Heat of the moment
Lionel Richie: Stuck on you
Not really a lot to say about any of the songs. I love 80's pop music, as you can see. Nothing really deep here. Toto is my favorite band, not only were they very successful, but the members of the band were all highly sought after studio musicians. During the 80's, if there was a popular album, chances are at least some of the members of Toto were involved in writing, composing, or playing music on the album. Michael Jackson, Bryan Adams, Richard marx, Elton John, Lionel Richie, Chicago, Rod Stewart, Don Henley, Joe Cocker, Eric Clapton, Joe Walsh, Van Halen..just to name a few. They were involved with all of them.
Edit:
I was happy to see Satriani on some of your lists, as I am a huge fan of him and Eric Johnson. Also, amazingly someone had Tangerine dream on their list. I like them, they did the soundtrack for the Movies near dark, and Miracle mile. I have them on my Ipod as well. :)

London Calling - The Clash
Not really much to say about this one, great song, as good as anything they put together. When you think of The Clash this is probably the song.
The Abolition of Man - Thrice
My favorite band, one of my favorite songs by them as well, its off The Artist In Ambulance, probably their most well known release, good song, alludes to the CS Lewis book by the same name.
Soul Meets Body - Death Cab for Cutie
Good song, its calming. Death Cab is a great band and I really like this song. Its off Plans, not their most recent release, but a pretty good CD.
Young Lust - Pink Floyd
Off of The Wall of course. Another one of my favorite bands, probably my second favorite, and I really enjoy this song. Not my favorite Pink Floyd song, that would go to either Dogs off of Animals or Comfortably Numb off of The Wall Disc 2.
A Favor House Atlantic - Coheed and Cambria
Another one of my favorite bands, I'd go with 3rd favorite, behind Thrice and Pink Floyd. Good song, one of their more radioish songs, but still good. They are fantastic live as well, saw them at Neverender LA when they played IV in its entirety, they were awesome, the show was killer and almost 3 hours long. Plus the guitarist, Travis, is super nice.
I think this captures my musical taste pretty well, some older stuff and quite a bit of new stuff as well. Good idea for a thread, love the resurrection.

Out of the Underground - Mr. Big
Great song by an awesome band. Met the lead singer - Eric Martin - a few months ago.
Water Under the Bridge - Mr. Big
Another great song by the same awesome band!
Firehouse - KISS
Okay song, but fun to see it live. Saw KISS on their Alive/35 tour this summer @ Konocti.
I Wish You Peace - Eagles
Good song to listen to on a rainy day.

Off their latest album "Libertad." It's a damn shame that Scott Weiland left the band.

Eulogy- Tool
Probably one of my favorite songs by Tool, Glad this made the list! I particularly like the guitar section in this song, and like all Tool songs, the lyrics are absolutely beautiful and thought provoking. 10/10
Bullet In The Head- Rage Against The Machine
Probably only heard this song 3 or 4 times, dont know too much about this song but RATM always produces strong messages in their music. 7/10
Got The Life- Korn
Id put this at the top of Korn's Follow the Leader CD, but im not really into them anymore. 4/10
Nowhere Fast- Incubus
Ive always loved Incubus so I was glad to find this one on the list. The drumming in this song is of particular interest to me. Jose Pasillas, along with Danny Carey of Tool are my biggest influences. 8/10
Beatuiful Disaster- 311
Love the intro guitar solo, the song as a whole is very 'chill'
In summary, not really a good representation of what I listen to, sans Tool. Pretty fun exercise.

Cool Thread. Here are my five. (From my iTunes Libary)
Drug Store Woman - John Lee Hooker
Great slow song. John Lee Hooker is great.
Clothing - Jerry Seinfeld
Not a song. Funny though.
My Way (A Mi Manera) - Robin Williams
From the Happy Feet soundtrack. Got it cause I liked the movie. Robin Williams shouldn't sing.
Someday Baby - Bob Dylan
What can I say, it's Bob Dylan. Great artist. Great Song.
Good Love Is On The Way - John Mayer
John Mayer does good songs, not great but good.

Ooooh, how fun! It's a shame no one will read this...
Jonny Lang - Darker Side
This is a nice, slow, bluesy song from his debut album. I don't really listen to it very often though.
Kenny Wayne Shepherd - King's Highway
I guess my ipod has the white boy blues today...This one is a bluesy-rock sort of thing in the style of Stevie Ray Vaughan.
Motorhead - Ace of Spades
This one is a classic metal song. Good stuff
Bo Diddley - Diddley Daddy
No offense to Elvis, but Bo Diddley invented rock and roll. A nice groovy little song.
The Beatles - Polythene Pam
I love everything on Abbey Road, and this one is no exception.

Let's see. I guess I'll do 5 more...
Kiss - Love Gun
Gotta love it...How they could make a sexual song sound romantic
Metallica - The Struggle Within
Not really my favorite from the black album...But oh well.
The Doors - Indian Summer
Nice, chill stony type song.
Faith No More - Edge of the World
This song has a jazzy, loungy sort of feeling to it. Quite a bit different from the rest of the album.
The Beatles - Get Back
Gotta love that late Beatles bluesy type stuff.

KISS - Tomorrow
No way! Someone else who knows that song besides me!

Feb 10, 2009, 01:46 PM
My first 5 shuffled songs:
Shut Your Eyes - Snow Patrol [Eyes Open]
X-ecutioner Style - Linkin Park [Reanimation]
That Old Pair of Jeans - Fatboy Slim [The Greatest Hits - Why Try Harder]
Bloof for Wild Blood - Razorlight [Slipway Fires]
Jimmy Kane - Muse [B-Sides & Rarities] (not sure if this is the actual album name)
Out of interest who uses the Ratings for their favourites, and who has a playlist. Personally I start all songs as 3 stars and my favourites go to 5 and those to delete go to 0. If I just want a break from it I put it at 1. I then have 2 playlists in iTunes I sync - 3 stars and 5 stars.

here's my five from nowhere:
"..." Bobby Bare Jr.
Three seconds of silence. Not a song, but it is what popped up. Kind of a bleak way to start.
"A Raga Called Pat IV" John Fahey
Hmm, from nothing to in your face pretentiousness. My ipod is really out to mark me as a fink.
"Room Full Of Roses" Dean Martin
Lookee, lookee, the real me: a sentimentalist.
"W.O.M.A.N." Etta James
Must be the Beyonce hater in me making a declaration.
"They Can't Take That Away From Me" Wayne Newton
End with a big finish, my mama always said. I'm pretty sure she meant with Mr.Las Vegas.

Angry Young Man - Michael Cavanaugh - Movin Out
--This is one of Billy Joels' songs in Movin Out. It is awesome.
Living Life - Ben Kweller - On My Way
--A friend introduced me to Ben Kweller. I quite like his stuff.
Wade in the Water - from Alvin Ailey's Revelations
--Alvin Ailey IS amazing! If they come to town, you should check them out. Either way, check out the music!
In Between Days - Ben Folds - Speed Graphic
--A Cure cover. Not too shabby.
These Rhinestone Days - Billy Joel - My Lives 1
--A demo that eventually became I've Loved These Days. I think I prefer the demo actually...
Has Been - William Shatner - Has Been
--This song is hilarious.
Think - Aretha Franklin - The Blues Brothers
--I am quite an Aretha fan.
Really That Bad - The Pipettes - Your Kisses Are Wasted On Me
--If you are into idiotic (and I say that lovingly) dance music, you should check out The Pipettes
Bassoon Concerto in E minor, 3 - Allegro - Vivaldi
--Vivaldi's bassoon concertos are all amazing.
Sympathy for the Devil - Rolling Stones - Beggars Banquet
--Good song.
"W.O.M.A.N." Etta James
Must be the Beyonce hater in me making a declaration.
Haha! Anyway, cheers for being an Etta James fan.

First five ( in shuffle mode)

Old and Fat and Drunk - The Austin Lounge Lizards
Princess (Morgan Z Remix) - Datarock
Bone Machine - Pixies

Dobermann - Dark Tranquillity
I like this song. It's got a nice groove to it, and it reminds me of their older music.
No One Knows - Queens of the Stone Age
I totally forgot I had this song! It's a prettyy decent song that's pretty catchy and reminds me of the summer.
I'm Sorry - Flyleaf
One of my least favorite songs on their album, but I do like the chorus.
Ryoujoku no Ame - Dir en grey
It's Dir en grey, so it's alternative japanese metal. Most of their songs sound the same to me, but that isn't always a bad thing. This song is pretty good.
Rosencrance - Born of Osiris
One of the only talented Deathcore bands, IMO. And this song is awesome, although the song changes rhythms and patterns every 5-12 seconds.
First five? Ok.
The Drunkk Machine - Thom Yorke, The Eraser
-I like everything Radiohead really... some of the Thom Yorke solo stuff is lacking but I still like it
The Canyon - Into the Wild original film score
-I really liked the movie, and since finding the score, I've been listening to it a lot. Most songs are very short but they're good.
Hurting and Shoving (She Should Have Let Me Sleep) - Glassjaw
-One of my favorite bands. Their newer stuff is much better in my opinion. Glassjaw always reminds me of home (Long Island)
Justice in a Bag - Disrespect
-Members of Civil Disobedience. Disrespect is pretty awesome. It's strange to think they have a 90's sound. Makes me feel old already
Harvest Breed - Nick Drake
-Not much to say, Pink Moon is my favorite Nick Drake record
That's weird, I have so much stuff and all the mellow stuff I listen to came up first. I listen to mostly hardcore, punk and metal. I actually had to skip songs by the same artist or on the same record. iTunes/iPod shuffle sucks so bad. I haven't been able to get a good, random shuffle in like 8 years.

Okay, the first 5 shuffled on my 32GB iPod Touch;
Shiny Toy Guns - Don't Cry Out
Strangely, this song I stumbled across while catching up on The L Word on youtube. Someone had used it for a homemade music video. It still makes me ugly cry. Reminds me far too much of the one I let slip away.
Johnny Cash - God's Gonna Cut You Down
I am a huge fangirl of The Man in Black. This is the music my parents raised me on. I love the near mechanical beat, and of course Johnny's voice.
Smashing Pumpkins - 1979
One of my favorite songs when I was in high school. I remember to this day sneaking into my quiet place in my High School library and listening to this on my walkman (away from the prying eyes of the nuns).
Frank Zappa - Sy Borg
Heh, I love this album so much (Joe's Garage Acts 1-3). My uncle would babysit me while my mum and dad were at work, he and his friends (who were 17 at the time) would have me listen to Frank, watch Monty Python and read comics with them. I was such a tomboy then -.-
Danny Elfman - Violet Beauregarde
Ahhhh, the Charlie & the Chocolate Factory soundtrack. I love this so much, granted, not as much as the original Oompa Loompa songs, but these're great too.

Gilt Gold Scabs - Dirty Projectors
Interesting work...
Waiting For the Aeroplane - John Psathas
Love this one. Very nice. Apparently he wrote it while waiting at an airport.
Knife - Grizzly Bear
Nice song but not one of my favorites off of Yellow House
Papalon - Squarepusher
Fantastic. jazzy. electronic. Awesome
Piano Concerto No.1 in F sharp minor, op.1 - II. Andante - Rachmaninov
Probably one of his weaker concertos but nice nontheless
Time for a change - Split enz
yip
Say hello to the angels - Interpol
Probably my favourite off the album. Amazing.
In the flowers - Animal Collective
Nice opener

Miley Cyrus-Nobody's Perfect
 This wasn't a very good one to start with. Oh well. Miley's hawt.
Tori Amos-Welcome to England
An (incredibly) catchy track from her latest album.
Jethro Tull-Cross-Eyed Mary
One of my favorites from Aqualung.
Nine Inch Nails-Into the Void
The instrumentals got all the attention for me on The Fragile, but this was definitely one of the vocal highlights.
Metallica-Desposable Heroes
My favorite Metallica song ever.

...what was just played on my iPod Classic 160GB. My entire music collection has to be everywhere with me. I love it.
"Dance of the Living Image" by Sun Ra
I love jazz though Sun Ra isn't what we would call a traditionalist. It's very unorthodox from the Miles Davis/John Coltrane/Charlie Parker stuff.
"I Am Not A Whore" by LMFAO
Who else knew that one of the guys in this group is the son (or nephew) of Berry Gordy, Motown's Founder?
"Why Can't We Be Friends?" by War
I mean... why not? Classic.
"Lebanese Blond" by Thievery Corporation
The version that came up is for the Garden State soundtrack even though I have an album or two on my iPod. Love that movie. Love its soundtrack even more.
"Starchasers" by Charles Hamilton
This guy is hit or miss. He samples Lykke Li's "Little Bit" on this record. Dope stuff. It works.

Devil's Slide - Joe Satriani
From his Live In San Francisco album - a great song, quite heavy, good riffs throughout, impressive playing.
Goa (Juju Remix) - Electrosoul System
Just another tune from my random drum'n'bass selection
Pirouette - Lisa Mitchell
Saw her support Newton Faulkner, nice music, not much to say about her really.
Second Best - Barenaked Ladies
Everyone loves the Barenaked Ladies.
Most Of The Time - The Magic Numbers
Not listened to these guys in a while! They are brilliant, fantastic albums they've got.

Drenalin - Riser
A great underground straight forward alternative band. Can never go wrong.
Straight Line Stitch - Eucharist
Another great underground artist. Every song they have, i love.
A Day to Remember - Speak of the Devil
Classic hardcore music. Alternative and Screamo blended flawlessly and the breakdowns never dissapoint.
Disturbed - Deceiver
One of my favorite songs to play on bass.
Korn - Falling Away From Me
Pure 7 string goodness. One of my favorites to play on guitar and bass. Not mention a band that has literally saved my life.
Hmm... this list made me seem one sided. In reality i have countless cds and over 79gb of music ranging threw every genre of music know to man.

Head Like a Hole - Nine Inch Nails
All you Nine Inch Nails fans please forgive me when I tell you that I found the band through a cover version of this song. That cover version was done by AFI, my favourite band. If I thought I was enamoured with the song before I had heard the original, it was nothing after hearing Trent Reznor's awesome vocals. Amazing.
The Shower Scene - Brand New
From a technical standpoint, I don't think you can get any better than Brand New. Daisy had some of the best instrumentation I've ever encountered and The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me and Deja Entendu have some of the best lyrics I've ever seen penned. Unfortunately, Brand New's debut release Your Favourite Weapon didn't have either extreme; it was just an above average pop punk record. I've forced myself to like it over time, but truth be told, it just doesn't feel like Brand New. The vocoder on this song sucks, which is a shame, it could've been the best on the album (I share a similar hate for vocoders on the song Darling, I Want to Destroy You off AFI's Crash Love, it just ruins the whole experience for me.)
Alpha Centauri - At the Drive-In
First ATDI song I'd ever heard, so I guess it makes sense that it's one of my favourites. I'm still torn between the inner argument of which is superior In/Casino/Out or Relationship of Command. I don't think it'll ever be settled haha. Regardless, some of the best post-hardcore ever written. If those reunion rumours prove to be more than fictitious I'll be on seeing these guys live faster than a swooping crow lusting over Edward Cullen's sparkly skin. Intense stuff.
Porphyria Cutanea Tarda - AFI
I know these guys get a lot of bad-mouthing but I just can't see why (with the minor exception of the overall disappointment that was decemberunderground). From 1998-2003 and now 2009-present day, AFI has been untouchable. Their live shows are intense, Jade's guitar work is immaculate, Hunter's bass work is perhaps even more immaculate, Adam shows amazing versatility from his punk beats to slow poignant drumming and then Davey has a really unique, beautiful set of pipes on him, he can do cleans very well and back in his punkier days you could mistake him for a higher pitched Danzig.
This song is from the first record of AFI's immaculate album trilogy (BSITS, AOD and STS) and is a hardcore punk track that sounds great and powerful on record, but even better in a live setting as displayed here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BoEjYF2-C8Y
Cemetry Gates - The Smiths
The Smiths' finest moment is Cemetry Gates. Marr's never sounded better and Moz is at his absolute best when it comes to the lyrics. This is my favourite Smiths song and probably my third overall favourite song of all time. I won't waffle because I want you to go listen to it. Now.

Type O Negative - Burnt Flowers Fallen. Great Goth/Metal from album October Rust.
Manic Street Preachers - Motorcycle Emptiness. Simply the most beautiful aching guitar riff ever, makes me want to cry even after hearing it a million times. from Generation Terrorists album
Nine Inch Nails - Wish. Trent Renzor at his most angry, something he lacks after the Downward Spiral album, from the Broken EP.
Stone Temple Pilots - Plush. If you love rock music you should love this song. From the album Core
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Under The Bridge. This is from my favourite album ever BloodSugarSexMagik. This song is just the best song ever and sadly the last album they made that was any good.

Red Hot Chili Peppers - Under The Bridge. This is from my favourite album ever BloodSugarSexMagik. This song is just the best song ever and sadly the last album they made that was any good.
Good taste!!! Especially love that aic song :)

Watch Me Bleed - Slapshot
Good driving-while-angry music!
Leather So Soft - Birdman & Lil Wayne
A good chilling at night song, which I am currently doing. Not hitting next 'til the song's actually over!
The Black Gate - The Analyst
A good decapitating-with-an-ax song.
We Fall, We Fall - Dead Celebrity Status
Okay, I actually hate Dead Celebrity Status. A lot.
Headfirst From a Hangman's Noose - I Killed the Prom Queen
Me likey.
