Apple seem to have forgotten about computers 😱
That's how I feel. Couldn't care less about a phone and there's nothing on TV anyway.
They could update the iMac by putting in desktop chips - immediate speedbump up to dual 2.9 Ghz. I mean that was the reason for switching wasn't it - to keep up with the PC fraternity? The "Road Map!" I believe the PC'ers have been enjoying this speed for 4 months now. By the time Apple get to dual 2.9 it will be a few years. Just like the bad old days of PPC.
2.16 2.33 2.5 2.66 2.9 - 4 revisions = 2 years.
If they stick with the mobile chip it could go to at least 2.33 by yesterday.
Apple waits for CS3? If that is a real consideration ...why? What about video renders and convolving reverbs? Anyone doing video or music wants more power now not when Adobe releass an unrelated product.
All in all very unsatisfactory. If you look at the buyers guide it puts it into perspective.
Using the buyers guide as a historical means for interpretation of future products is invalid at this point. This is intel we're talking about. Product roadmaps at least a year in advance? Means we can extrapolate somewhat when updates will come. As for someone who said the iMac can be updated with core 2 desktop chips, yes they could, but Apple seems to be more concerned with quietness, and a distinct delineation between the product lines. The mac mini isn't going to have a chip on par with the iMac, just like the iMac is not going to have a faster chip than the MBP. Sure it did when they had a G5 and the powerbooks were languishing with a G4, but that was more out of necessity. If Apple was truly concerned about having a completely varied product matrix they would have a midrange desktop, with an intel Conroe, and also have to price it accordingly. The midrange desktop arena has razor thin profit margins, and Apple isn't interested, at least not yet. I hope that they do intro one sometime soon, but I recognize their is a method to their madness.
The new product items will come out when intel's Santa Rosa is shipping and not a minute before. This isn't guess when motorola can get off the a$$es and when Apple may incorporate it in their computer lineup. As for the Mac Pro I would think Apple has detailed data concerning sales, and has witnessed alot of persons holding out for a UB of CS3. Something to that effect was even mentioned in a conference call I believe. So it makes sense for them to have a whiz-bang introduction coincided with the impending release of CS3, as just the Mac Pro alone might not have resulted in a tangible uptick in sells.
