My desktop is missing!!

Hello,

All icons have disappeared from my desktop.
They still appear in a finder window, but not on the actual desktop.
The desktop also seems to be locked. Whenever i drag something to it, it rejects it. I am able to copy to desktop via a finder window.

Any ideas?????

Repair permissions? Check the Finder Preferences and View Options?

I'd check to see what your permissions are on ~/Desktop.

I tried rebooting
I tried force quit on finder..

Try creating a new user account and see if that suffers from the same problems

What might you have done lately to tweak your Mac...new software, have you used Terminal for anything, reconfigured something??

SWEEEEEEET!!!

I installed tinkertool earlier today and completely forgot!
Tinkertool had a checkbox saying disable desktop funcionality!

Great- but why would someone want to disable desktop functionality- I assume for a kiosk type use of a Mac?
