bug #1: you have a bluetooth device paired and you elect to use the iphone's builtin sound source. if you go out of range and then back into range of the headset during the call, the sound will start playing from the bt headset automatically, even though you have selected the iphone as your sound device.

I clicked to record a voicemail greeting -- recorded one, but then left this screen by hitting home. When I came back later I could not record a greeting. Although the 'Record' button was active, upon click it would not start recording no matter what I did with the phone. In addition, if you clicked 'Play' it would say 'No greeting has been recorded'. I tried every function on this page and left and came back several times with no avail. Shutting down and turning back on iPhone allowed me to record again and it worked.

You cant change which email account you are using to send a reply email (i.e. forwarded email received via .mac can not be replied to using the original email address the sender used.)

It could just be me (cause I haven't seen anything yet), but it seems that smart playlists are all messed up and simply don't work. The only smart playlist that I have is 'top 25', so last night while I was listening to some music, I went to that playlist on my iphone but the songs are not the same at all. I thought maybe I changed something, but sure enough on my itunes 'top 25' is still the same. I couldn't figure out why it was showing up with random songs on my phone. So I created a new one with different settings, and again the songs on my laptop were not the same at all on my phone. Anyone else have the same issues??

I'm not sure if this is an iPhone mail bug or an issue with gmail but when I setup my gmail account and told it to download a preview of the latest 25 emails, two of them were ones I had sent and were not in my Inbox. I looked around for an option or something that would explain that behavior but couldn't find one. I thought maybe it has to do with how Gmail does emails "conversation" wise but am not sure.

Other than that my signal to the network seems to fluctuate quite a bit even while in the same room which never happened with my Razr. It might just be more sensitive and accurate or I might be in for more dropped calls than before!

Mine has problems connecting, or defaulting, to my home wireless network. Most of the browsing, actually all my web browsing to date has been over the Edge network. I set up the wireless correctly and it is "checked " as my preferred network, but the phone never defaults when browsing or checking e-mail.

The wireless router is D-link 802.11g/2.4 GHz. Next I'm gonna try my airport base station and see what happens.

I'm also having issues with mail. I have three gmail accounts set up, and they all go and load the 25 most recent messages or whatever ive specified. Problem is, they load up as being new emails. So i start out having 90 or so "new emails" all of which ive read, or already deleted in Mail (although they probably havent been deleted from the gmail archive)

This seems sort of odd, and the account options seem pretty limited in ways the app downloads mail.

Safari can't log into Outlook Exchange Email via the internet. It asks for the login name and password, but then hangs up. Tried this on two separate accounts with the same result. Safari on my MBP does not have this problem.

Wifi not working properly. If the phone has been in standby mode for a while, I can browse using my Airport Extreme without issue. However, after a short period (one or two minutes) I can no longer get data over wifi. If I then go to the Network Setup screen, I can't even list wireless networks (normally I see three or four.) I noticed that at the same time this happens, the phone gets noticeably hot. I'm wondering if this is a hardware bug - the wifi chip failing when it gets too hot. (I haven't attempted browsing from my fridge just yet. :) )

I noticed on two HTML mailing list emails that I received (Constant Contact) would not display properly. Only the left half of the email in the body displayed, and the right was blank, cutting off all graphics and text. The footer, however was displayed properly across the entire screen.

I have smart playlists on my iPhone. Although they are very simple (rating >=4) . But they seem to work.

Windows XP and its new-hardware installer try to recognize iPhone as a camera when there are photos in the Camera Roll. Then, Windows crashes into the blue screen of death with an error message 0x0000007e blahblahblah. When there are no photos in the Camera Roll, Windows doesn't crash, and iTunes opens the phone normally.

Sometimes the e-mail message headers get out of sync with the body.

The browser seems to crash when I have four or more pages open.

The device puts out a lot of interference when accessing the ATT network (shielding issue maybe?)

I love the iPhone overall, but have noticed the following problems:

1. As people have mentioned, the iPod will crash when browsing with Safari. I've found additionally, however, that mine at least seems to crash only immediately after I try and zoom (by pinching in). I can browse for quite a while with steady music as long as I don't zoom.
2. Again, this is already mentioned, but Safari seems to crash randomly very frequently for me. No error message is given, it just closes.
3. Safari quits when an email is received. I realize that this is probably on purpose; iPhone is notifying you that you have received a message. However, when I return to Safari, I am often logged out of web pages and have to re-enter my login and password information. This is particularly annoying as iPhone doesn't seem to be able to remember login information or passwords.
4. Problems with the orientation sensor; my iPhone is not at all good at telling whether it is held vertically or horizontally. It works only about 40-50% of the time. I can force it to work by making forceful, sudden movements, but this shouldn't be necessary.
5. Problems with certain web interactions; i.e. setting status on Facebook - clicking in the field to set your status shows a text entry box for about a half second and then it disappears before you can enter any text.
6. SMS Text application is slow to launch (takes about a full 5 seconds on my phone)

If any of you have found solutions to any of these problems or are having the same issues, please let me know (especially number 3, 4, & 5)
Restarting the phone has helped fix the safari crashes, but only for a while and then the issues reoccur.

I got a "No Service" indicator in place of the signal strength bars the last time I put the iPhone in the cradle and a sync began. Powering off completely (not just putting to sleep) brought the network back to life.

ATT rep had no idea why this happened.

This is a function of how mail clients and gmail work. First, the mail client gets a message - regardless if it's been read on another client it'll show up as new. Try it yourself - close your client on your computer, log into gmail through your web browser, send yourself an e-mail, read it, then open your client back up on your computer. it'll show up as new!

Another one of the annoying problems with gmail is whole sent e-mails in the inbox thing. If you send an e-mail from the gmail website, it'll show up in your inbox on any client you have set up to download your e-mails!


On to my bug... I first synced my music, and everything went fine. Next i decided to sync my pictures. Selected all of them, and i only got the "last roll" from iPhoto. no error message or anything. Played around a bit, and eventually found out that if i selected a smaller subset of albums, they would all appear. It seems that rather than tell you your iPhone is full, it just stops when it can't download an entire album.

The key to the whole thing for me was that the "last 12 months" album was second in the list (by default), and was huge. Moving it to the bottom allowed most of the other smaller albums to download just fine, until i could actually see that the phone was full (instead of the 1.5 gigs that were open in the previous attempts).

i thought the same thing at first about the talk volume... have you tried turning up the volume (using the rocker switch on the left side of the phone) while you're in a call? it did wonders for me!

Three times now this has happened with 5 bars of signal. The signal will totally drop and the phone says "no signal" - just dropped it entirely. Then I reboot the phone, and it says "no sim". I reboot again, and same message. Reboot again, and it locks in 5 bars of signal, no problem.

Today is the first time this has happened - it's been perfect before now. Anyone else having this issue at all? Sounds like it could be hardware or software related.

In the 'phone' application, when creating a new contact if you enter all the information and, before saving the new contact, you try to take a photo to add to the contact page, the application quits and dumps you back to the home page and all the information you entered is lost as that contact is not saved.

This happened to me twice. A work-around it to enter the contact information *first* and save the contact. Then go back and 'edit' the contact and take the picture you want to add.

06 BMW 3 Series -- Same problem. When using Bluetooth audio cuts out for a second or two at a time.

Sounds like you are on a Windows PC?

When I sync with my Mac (when photos are in the roll), iTunes AND Apple's Aperture open and "just work" by each doing what they need to do at the same time, correctly. I did shut the (auto)Aperture feature off as I don't want it opening every-time I dock the iPhone.

Did anyone else notice that the headphone jack is irregular. The hole is very deep and standard headphones did not fit into the hole (I tried 5 kinds). For all the headphones the insulation around the pin prevented it from fitting in the headphone jack. Did apple put out any special converters for this? I remember steve saying that the headphone jack is a standard 3.5mm at macworld..... it is 3.5mm but sure isn't standard if it can't fit any headphones other than the ones that come with the iphone. :mad:

Didn't think I'd find a bug, but I did. Here it is:

Apparently the first DNS server for my ISP went down. My laptop's smart enough to fall back to the secondary DNS server. Although a second one is listed on the iPhone, it apparently won't use it, and Safari times out because the first DNS server was down. I switched the 2nd one with the 1st one in the wireless setup on the iPhone and it's working. It shouldn't obviously happen very often, but Apple needs to fix this in the future.

Agreed. I am pretty sure they are looking at all these bugs and planning a software update. I expect that from Apple especially after the activation snafus.

Are you walking when you have this problem? I've noticed that if there is a lot of other movement going on (walking, running which causes your hands to bounce a bit) the orientation sensor has a hard time picking up rotation. Otherwise, at a standstill I've never had any problems.

You can set up a filter in gmail (by logging into gmail.com) to delete any emails where the "From:" field matches your email address. This will keep the email in your sent folder on your iPhone or Mail at home, but it will prevent it from showing up in your Inbox.

I've noticed that if you try to position the cursor using the magnifying glass in text that is near the top of the screen, the magnifying glass will be off the screen. Anyone else have this issue? It is rather annoying because generally when I'm positioning the cursor the text is near the top of the screen because the keyboard is taking up the bottom.

Another small problem... I have about 1 gig of photo's on my iPhone (at least, i did last night after the last time i synced at home). Anyways, i've been showing it to a bunch of people here at work and the battery was getting a little low, so i plugged it into my computer here to recharge. I'm not sure at exactly what point this happened, but now when i go to look at my photo's, it comes up empty! According to iTunes on this computer, there's still 1.11 gigs of photos on the iPhone. I did have to "abort" the initial syncing, so that may be part of the problem... it's now set up to never sync this iPhone from this computer, so hopefully when i sync back at home tonight it'll all get straightened out!

Visit apple.com/iphone in Safari.
Play the Finger Tips video or any other video that works in Safari.
While in the embedded video player, put the phone in landscape mode.
Click the 'Done' button at the top-left corner.
Quickly move the phone to portrait mode before the web page reappears.
The status bar will now be on the left or right hand side (depending on which landscape orientation you were in).
The correct status bar position will be restored when you press Home.

Yes, a few of us have reported similar problems. There is a thread (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=323538)here discussing this. Some have success by resetting the network settings while don't . I'm having the same problem as you are.

I may have found a bug...


Anyone else having problems with certain VBR MP3's? some of mine simply do not show up, or they appear as one song but then are pieces of the whole album (weird)... can't really explain it better than that though.

There's no way to send SMS messages to more than one person.

Safari only plays some quicktime movies, and fails on others.

you can't write an email and THEN attach a picture. You have to select a picture and then write an email to go with it. Additionally, you can't send more than one picture per email.

(This one is an itunes bug): In iCal, all the new appointments get assigned to one default listing which can't be switched. All my appointments get shifted to a "Library Loans" list which is generated by Delicious Library.

There's no indicator to tell you how many SMS messages have been sent.



C'mon Apple. Good job for a first release. there just need to be a handful of fixes to make this thing relatively seamless...

I reopened Mail and the message was still open (as if it hadn't sent) but I looked in the Sent folder and the message did sent.

They do have a small converter for this for sale on the macstore site. It's $19.

I seem to be having similar battery life to what has been posted but my complaint is in the posting of battery life. When synced and charging, the battery indicator on the main screen seems to fill "Almost" full, then the charging indicator changes to a "Connected" indicator showing it's fully charged. I've tried the cable connect to my system and just an outlet and get the same thing. Also has anyone checked your Usage under the settings option? I can't get mine to post Usage or Standby from last full charge. Could someone let me know if they got this to post on their IPhone? Thanks,

not being able to send texts to more than one person...as well as not being able to cut, copy and paste text is really frustrating. volume really soft...forget about hearing people in large crowds. It's taking me a while to get used to the keyboard...i wish i had a stylus for it. And what sucks for me is that I have to pay $129 to upgrade my mac since the iphone won't work on my operating system! I was just aware of getting itunes 7.3 but there were more strings attached. :(

When I go to answer a call (and the phone is dark and locked in Standby mode), the phone rings, lights up and requests that I slide the 'slider bar' to answer the call. Every-time - I can't slide the slider for a few seconds. The phone rings 3x even though I am ready and have tried to slide the slider on ring #1. It looks like a slow/stuck SOFTWARE ISSUE. I hope this is fixed ASAP.

I like having the latest technology, and don't mind some things that need updating but... a cell phone's basic functions (answer a call) need to work 100%.

If you have video podcast loaded go to ipod>more>podcast or just click on podcast if you've moved that to one of your 5 ipod buttons. Start one of the video podcasts. On my iPhone the pod cast will play vertically but you will only see the first frame of the podcast while audio plays normally. If I turn the iPhone horizontally it doesn't switch to a full screen video, but to cover flow. Again, you see the first frame and the audio plays normally. The only way I am able to view video podcast is if I start them from the Video button.

I believe this is a feature! If you don't select the Video button, you're in "audio only" mode. This allows you to listen to a Video Podcast without actually viewing the video. And you're seeing the "thumbnail" for the podcast, not the first frame of the video. The thumbnail is also what you see when you're browsing in Cover Flow.

I loved my iPhone until about 15 minutes ago when I was headed out for lunch. I went to the iPod section to finish listening to the new Switchfoot album (ok, new to me) that I played on the phone while I was fixing breakfast. To my surprise, all my music was gone. There is no music at all on my iPhone anymore. I had 1361 songs on there. I tried re-synching, but as you can see in the attached photo (removed), even when iTunes thinks the music is all on there, the phone doesn't think there is!

Like the other problems the phone has, turning the phone off then back on fixes the problem, but it gave me such a scare... not cool. Love my iPhone!

not sure if these are bugs but:

1. horrible non bug /design issue: if you are browsing net on EDGE you will not receive calls. I would like the option of taking the call and stopping the data transfer.


Sorry if this has been addressed already but just yesterday I was using EDGE to surf MacRumors and received a call and the call popped up for me.

I ran some testing and it appears one can only see the phone call if the website is completely loaded.Otherwise it is directed to your voicemail.Bug report submitted to Radar.

The iPhone is supposed to be 802.11a/b/g right?

My house is 802.11n everywhere.To test the iPhone I set up my AEBS to do 802.11a/b/g

The iPhone was listed at 27Mb ( which is .a )instead of 54Mb ( which is .g )
It won't connect at any faster speed than 27..

Problem # 1 Volume
The Handset volume is too low, the ringer volume is way too low (I miss calls because I didn't hear the phone), and the speakerphone volume is so low it's not even usable. I can't even use the iphone outdoors in a noisy area because of the volume. They really need to issue a software fix for this. I know its not a hardware issue since the iPod volume through the speakers is much louder. I know my hearing isn't great, but I'm only 33 years old! My hearing isn't that bad.

Problem #2 Email
The email preferences are very primative. Apple should have given us the ability to select a different send mail server for a different service provider. As an example, I use gmail and don't want to switch. However, I want to use yahoo for their push email services. I even purchased their Yahoo plus email to try and get more functionality out of it to no avail. I have all my gmail forwarded to my yahoo account so that it's pushed to my iPhone. When replying or making a new email, I should be able to select gmails SMTP server rather than having it go through yahoo's server. Apple doesn't give us this ability, even though mail.app does on MacOS X. They need to fix this.

Problem #3 Crashing
Is it just me or does safari and google maps crash ALL the time. We need a software fix here to make it more stable. The mail app crashes occasionally too, but not as often as safari and google maps.

Problem #4 Voicemail Forwarding
You can't forward a voicemail to someone.

Problem #5 Can't select multiple SMS recipients
We should be able to select multiple recipients like any other phone.

These are my main complaints. If they fix these things I'll be pretty happy. It's excellent for a version one product, but they really need to fix these problems and shortcomings soon. The volume problem is just a killer problem for me.

Two problems: Low earpiece volume but I can always use the Speaker until fixed. The one I can't live with is reception problems. Sometimes goes from 4 bars to no service then 30sec to 1 min late back to 4 bars. Drops calls. Calls go to voice mail with no ring and 4 bars. Get voice mail indication 9 minutes later. I have compared the reception on Cingular in the same locations to the following:

Nokia N95: no reception problems even in extreme fringe areas. No dropped calls ever.

Unlocked T-Mobile Dash: Not quite as good as N95 but no dropped calls.

Nokia E61: Not quite as good as Dash but acceptable.

The iPhone also seems very dependent on how it is held. I must hold it out of my palm and by the tips of my fingers to get decent reception. It also seems to be at least one bar better in landscape mode. The voice quality has been fine when I am able to get enough signal to receive calls.

Reception is not good enough for me for every day use but I want to hang with it until maybe a firmware update can help the problems. Otherwise the device is great and I enjoy using it.

i can use the bluetooth through my lexus is250 just fine. but voicemail will not play through the bt system. oddly, i can hear the voicemails through an old motorola bt headset. i've found a workaround - call myself and listen to the entire slate of voicemails at once over bluetooth. but should not have to.

also. i have three macs. a 20" imac, an "old" powerbook and a macbook pro. i also have a mac.com account. i was sure i'd synced the address book on all three computers using mac.com. then, in itunes, i get the option of also syncing with my yahoo address book... which i was sure was virtually the same. unfortunately instead of 521 entries, now all of the sudden by mac.com and all three computers and yahoo and the iphone all have more than a thousand. i've tried leaving only one system with contacts in the address book and trying to replace data on everything else with that information. but still i get double entries. aaaargh.

Here is a bug I came across this morning. I'm not sure if is caused by either action or both.

Last night I added images to a few of my contacts, (a face to the name) on my iphone. Later when I synced my phone, I unselected a contact group on itunes.

This morning while playing around with the driving directions on the maps app, I noticed most of my contacts were missing. I thought the ones that were shown with maps were the contacts with addresses. I looked at my contact book and noticed I only had a quarter of my names and numbers in there.

I re-synced with itunes and reselected the one group I unselected last night. Everything is back.

Not sure if un-selecting a group in contacts or adding images to contacts was the source of the bug.

Has anyone had missing contacts problems?

1. LASS codes such as *82 do not work. ATT said they should.

#1. When I talk to my girlfriend and we're both using the earbuds on our respective iPhones, it seems like her phone is constantly trying to adjust the sound level based on the sound coming in. If she's quiet, her background noise gets much louder. Then when she speaks, it's so loud that it makes me jump and usually yank my earbuds out and yell. So, I find myself constantly adjusting my volume level to balance out her output level. Also, once she does speak, the volume goes way down to where I can barely hear her for a few seconds until it regulates. This is driving me totally mad! The iPhone must have some kind of self-regulator causing these fluctuations because I have no troubles like this talking to someone who is on a land-line.

#2 Yesterday my iPhone rang and when i went to slide the green button to answer, the screen went black with just the silver Apple logo showing and the call did not get answered. I had to hold down the Home button for several seconds to reset.

#3 Safari closes randomly, especially when I'm listening to music at the same time.

Make sure the switch above your volume control buttons is not set to "Silent" mode. If you see a red dot on the switch, then you are in silent mode. Flick it up to return to Normal mode. It's basically just an easy on/off switch to quickly disable sound when going into meetings/movies/etc.

1) Most annoying bug I've had so far is that a call came in and while the phone is ringing there is no display and nothing to press to pick up the call. Even pressing where the button normally appears didn't have any effect.

2) Calls being forwarded to voice mail even if full AT&T reception and I'm not on the internet (needless to say, even when on the internet the call should get through!)

3) sound stopped working at one point (no ringer, no keyboard klicks, etc.). Only reboot helped.

4) iPod starting randomly after finishing a phone call (I didn't have the iPod on beforehand).

I'm not mentioning software "weaknesses", most of which in my opinion are email related, as these have been covered in the software update forum.

Unfortunately, if I don't see any software patches by Friday, I will have to give the iPhone back. Not because I don't like it, but because I can't risk having a malfunctioning device for the next 2 years.

while using the ipod feature on my iphone i usually browse by artist and select a song. If you exit the artist menu (whether in cover flow or not) and browse your music by song, the song you are currently playing is not recognized as "now playing" in the songs menu but is recognized in the artist menu. this flaw was very weird to me and i couldnt belive that apple didnt pick this up. I noticed this error within minutes of using my iphone....i guess i pay close attention to detail.

Last night i charged my battery in the dock connected to the wall and when i turned the phone on this morning the battery wasnt fully charged. the phone was probably charging for 5 and a half hours. First time ive had this issue....I DO FEEL THO THAT MY BATTERY HASNT BEEN WORKING AS ADVERTIZED AND I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF OTHER PEOPLE ARE HAVING THIS ISSUE AS WELL.

I've had a couple occasions now where I will get or try to make a call, but I will not be able to use the iPhone's built-in speaker or microphone. However, if I switch to speakerphone, it works.

The only way I could get the sound back was to insert the iPhone headphones, and remove them again. My inkling is that when I had the iPhone headphones in previously, the iPhone did not detect them being removed. When I tried to make or receive a call, it put the output through the headphone jack thinking the headphones were still there.

When you zoom in too far in google maps "no image data" is displayed.

Maps won't let you scroll/zoom to a spot if its in the process of loading/ partially loaded, it pushes you over somewhere else.

I've had alot of random crashes, usually when music is playing and I'm in another app. Reseting the phone appears to fix it for awhile.

Artwork not always displayed, appears in iTunes fine but doesn't sync, maybe because of 3rd party images / scans, I spent a long time adding artwork to almost every track I posses.

Speakerphone is useless, I can't hear it ringing out while driving(or in a quiet room), and half the time I don't know if anybody picked up or not.

Proximity sensor doesn't work while in speakerphone. Might not be an issue if you didn't have to put it next to your head to hear it in the first place.

If wifi is at 1 bar it won't switch to edge and won't load a page till you move and then reload or turn wifi off and reload.

The XP Camera import thing is annoying, didn't happen for the first week, now it happens everytime I connect to my work laptop.

Here's one that no one mentioned...

Go to clock -> timer and set it to sleep the iPod after some amount of time. Now, start the timer...everything will be fine, as long as you keep the clock app open or just put it to sleep. However, if you go home and use another app, the timer changes its action to the marimba alert. This is super annoying, especially at night when I get a text while in bed!!

That's the only bug I have that is not already listed.

There is a bug in Safari where if you create another browser "tab" in landscape mode, then rotate to portrait and tap on the tab icon, the page name and address can cover the 'X' to close the window. If the text covers the red close button, you are not able to close the window. Your only option is to rotate back into landscape mode to close the browser window.

There were several occasions where Safari was unresponsive to submitting forms. (submit button didn't send the data, even after a page refresh) A restart of the iPhone was needed to correct the problem.

Rotating the phone at anything less than 70 degrees does not result in changing the screen orientation. Sort-of annoying since most people don't browse with their phones completely upright. Easy software fix, I'm sure.

Another bug i found is that when i use google map on edge and trying to pinch to zoom in and sometime one of my finger goes out of the screen and the map will "bounce" to somewhere else far off of the destination. It happends quite often. Is it just me or does anyone else has this problem too?

i was about to list this exact bug since it's been happening with my iphone too.

Shut the phone down (hold the button on the top right and slide the red bar to the side when it appears). Then restart the phone by hitting the same top right button. Seems to solve Safari and iPod crashing for me.

i get safari crashes as well and i've used this trick every now and then, but it's only a *temporary* fix - after a couple of days, safari goes back to crashing frequently again.

i've also experienced the bug where music stops playing shortly after starting to use safari.

You CAN browse during a phone call. Hit the home button while talking and do whatever you want. If you're on a call, there is a slightly pulsing green bar across the top of the screen that says "Return to Call" which takes you back to the phone app immediately.

About two-thirds of my e-mail messages say "This message has no content". The "from" and "subject" fields seem fine. In fact the few headers that the iphone shows seem fine. The e-mails appear as expected on my laptop. I have not noticed a clear pattern yet, but most (not all) messages with content-type of text/plain do not display properly. Most (not all) messages with content-type of multipart/alternative show up ok.

The upshot is that I cannot read most of my mail on the iphone which obviously makes it useless for e-mail.

I am using IMAP with mail hosted on an Xserve running OS X Server 10.2.8. There are a few similar reports in Apple's forums.

I have had a few buggy things happen with my iPhone. First it went black and unresponsive one time while listening to music. This was fixed with a hard reset.

Secondly, one time when I went to the favorites screen within the phone, the screen was completely black. Turning the phone off and on fixed this problem.

Another time it stopped ringing, I noticed that all of the preview ringers were silent when I tried to change the ring. Turning the phone on and off fixed this.

Finally, I was listening to the iPod browsing the web and switched over to the phone to listen to the visual voicemail the voicemail screen started flashing black. Once again fixable by turning the phone on and off.

All of these things have happened only once. Anyone else experienced any of these problems?

My iphone seems to cut in and out during calls at a high frequency. For example i would here something that sounded like " Wha are you do-g. I ca 't h ar y u. Its ge ti g ch o py." if you can imagine a really choppy call it would sound something like that. It seems to happen when there is a lot of road noise or background noise. It is also notably more prominant when using the headset which the iphone came with. Has anybody seen or heard of this same problem. I did some of my own testing in the field driving around while on the phone and I still get the same problem, so I doubt hand offs from bay station to bay station are causing the problem. Anways if you heard or experienced the same problem let me know. Report this to Apple please.

In my '07 BMW 5 series, during the first few moments of a call in BT through the BMW system, the audio cuts in and out, and then it stabilizes and is fine. Wasn't a problem with my Treo 650 and the BMW, which the iPhone replaced. Integration with menus, voice dialing is flawless.

I have had the exact same issue with my '07 3 series (with iDrive). This was also not a problem with my BB Pearl or my Moto RAZR. Similar experience with the upload of address book and integration into iDrive.

Just this morning my phone was ringing and as I slided the unlock slider which you need to do to answer it did not connect and then we were at the man unlock screen. I slided the lock and it just froze. I hit the sleep button to see if it would help. Then I woke it up again and the unlocked it however the slider remained on screen but the black backgound showed from the main menu screen but with no icons. It was just frozen. I held the home button to have it cancel what ever app was causing this but nothing happend. I ended up holdong the sleep button to have the red slider show and power off the unit. After that it was fine. I was able to see who called me. One other isssue is how long it takes to actually get the visual voicemail. That and as I browse the web on some website Safari just quits and sends me to the main menu screen. :apple:

Now turn the iPhone into landscape mode and something is wrong. It shows the correct cover art for The Offspring Greatest Hits, but the Artist is displayed as Boston, and the album art is in the wrong order. It's somehow now in the same location as the Boston Greatest Hits album! If I scroll through cover flow to the next album and come back, it now changes the album art to that of Boston Greatest Hits. Returning the iPhone to the portrait mode restores Album Art to the correct image.

I have seen similar problems with "greatest hits" CDs, but it seems to be more of an iTunes issue than just on the iPhone. Important to note, this problem seems to only occur with tracks imported from CDs not on iTunes purchased music. Specifically if I sort by album name, rather than by artist.

I noticed on two HTML mailing list emails that I received (Constant Contact) would not display properly. Only the left half of the email in the body displayed, and the right was blank, cutting off all graphics and text. The footer, however was displayed properly across the entire screen.

Strange.

I had the exact same problem with a distribution list email. The left half displayed, the right half didn't, and the footer was full length. On my powerbook, it displayed the entire email with no problems. There is an image on the left with a link attached, but other than that, there was nothing too special about the email.

I have been having problems sending emails from the iPhone via my @yahoo.com email account.

I spent 45 minutes with Apple support via telephone yesterday. They said it is a problem with Yahoo after we went through power cycling, resetting (home+sleep/wake), and re-configuring Yahoo email support (which did solve the problem for about 12 hours).

I am using an iPhone and am having problems sending email. I have tried sending messages from my iPhone using my Yahoo mail account configured through the shortcut on the iPhone.

Yesterday I lost about 10 sent messages - I typed them and hit send (while I had EDGE service) and the iPhone indicated they had been sent, but the items did not show up in my sent items folder (on neither iPhone sent folder nor Yahoo Mail online sent folder).

I contacted Apple support and they walked me through power cycling iPhone, resetting iPhone, and finally re-configuring iPhone for Yahoo Mail via the iPhone Yahoo Add Account shortcut (i.e. setting up Yahoo on the iPhone email client again). This resolved the problem until it began to recur today.

I have sent several emails from my iPhone, all of which have appeared to send without incident but show up in neither iPhone sent mail folder nor online Yahoo sent mail folder. I have used my Gmail account via iPhone without incident or interruption during these same periods of time, so I know it is a problem between the iPhone and Yahoo mail.

I'm not sure if this is an iPhone mail bug or an issue with gmail but when I setup my gmail account and told it to download a preview of the latest 25 emails, two of them were ones I had sent and were not in my Inbox. I looked around for an option or something that would explain that behavior but couldn't find one. I thought maybe it has to do with how Gmail does emails "conversation" wise but am not sure.

Other than that my signal to the network seems to fluctuate quite a bit even while in the same room which never happened with my Razr. It might just be more sensitive and accurate or I might be in for more dropped calls than before!

I get that all the time in Mail. I thought it was annoying at first, but it actually can be useful, because I can then drag them into my sent items. On the iPhone, though, it's probably useless and annoying.

i also have a jawbone paired with my iphone. i paired it once and have not had to enter the passcode any more beyond that. it connects quickly to the iphone once i turn it on with no problems. not sure why you're experiencing that...

I use a calling card to call England from USA. I have typed in the commands necessary to make the call without additional entry. This worked well on verizon. But on iphone after dialing the calling card number, all the automatic inut after the first pause is so slow, the numbers also do not go through crisply, that the calling card auto system does not recognize the input.

sound volume becomes much lower through the headphones. to get the bug, do the following:

1. put the headpones in the headphone jack.

2. turn the iphone off: hold down the sleep button for several seconds and then, when the red bar appears that says "slide to power off," slide it.

3. turn the iphone back on: firmly press the sleep button.

4. when the home screen appears, press the ipod icon.

5. play a song (preferably one that you can notice when the sound drops).

6. set the volume to be reasonbly loud (say 75%).

7. listen for a little bit to get a feel for how loud it is.

8. pull the headphones out of the headphone jack: you should notice that the volume setting will shift to whatever it is set for incoming call rings.

9. put the headphones back in the headphone jack: you should notice that the volume setting should revert to what it was set during step 6.

10. press play.

if the sound volume coming out of the headphones drops significantly (even though the volume setting has not changed), you have the same bug that i have. when this happens, setting the volume to 100% is not very loud. to get the volume back up, you have to turn the phone back off and on.

this problem also happens after you receive a call while listening to music. after using the mic button to end the call, the sound volume goes down even though the volume setting is the same.

after i noticed this problem, i exchanged my phone. the new one i got has the same problem. also, i tested three display phones at the apple store (5th avenue store in new york), and all three had the same problem.

i bought my initial phone at the soho store in new york on july 5th. i exchanged it for a new one at the 5th avenue store late last night.

please post a reply if you have the same problem. i hope this can be fixed via a software update.

Not sure, I never had the problem or need to but then again my interfaces into my car anyway. I would think if you just exit the iPhone app on the phone and lock the screen it will not display. I think it displays it when you pull the ear buds out and it pauses. In essence, the displayed song is the currently paused song.

It could just be me (cause I haven't seen anything yet), but it seems that smart playlists are all messed up and simply don't work. The only smart playlist that I have is 'top 25', so last night while I was listening to some music, I went to that playlist on my iphone but the songs are not the same at all. I thought maybe I changed something, but sure enough on my itunes 'top 25' is still the same. I couldn't figure out why it was showing up with random songs on my phone. So I created a new one with different settings, and again the songs on my laptop were not the same at all on my phone. Anyone else have the same issues??

This problem is odd indeed but the best solution is to uncheck "live updating" in the properties of the smart playlist and all your top 25 songs will appear on your iphone as shown in itunes. If you want to update the list in itunes check "live updating" and then uncheck it and sync. These steps will allow you to accomplish your initial problem.

Today we will examine a problem which has arisen with iPhone after listening music for a very long time when the battery charge has gone to zero. Having connected it to charge device, i have decided to check up it after few hours. I astonished, I have found out its not responding to any pressing. Pressing of the “On/Off” button and “Home” button did not result anything though during that time iTunes respond to phone.

To begin with I have decided to try reboot as follows: Press and hold button “Home” six seconds. This command forces to clos all applications which can block iPhone’s work. But it has not worked.
Further - i have tried simultaneous holding of buttons “Home” and “On/Off”. Then after holding throughout 10 seconds on the screen has been appeared an Apple. I was surprised that iPhone has rebooted for only 4 seconds.

Now you know. If your iPhone has ceased to respond to commands, try Home+On/Off and show some patience.

I love the iPhone overall, but have noticed the following problems:

1. As people have mentioned, the iPod will crash when browsing with Safari. I've found additionally, however, that mine at least seems to crash only immediately after I try and zoom (by pinching in). I can browse for quite a while with steady music as long as I don't zoom.

I think what's happening is when you leave ipod and use safari, the ipod controls are still there, but invisible to you. My music will stop while browsing safari ONLY when I try to scroll up or down by touching the area where the ipod controls would normally be in vertical mode. For example, when in landscape mode in safari, my ipod will continue to work while browsing if I touch-scroll in the middle of my iphone and not towards the side (bottom) where the ipod controls would normally be.

If I click shuffle within the list it sticks on the same song and must be manually clicked/forwared in order to go to the next song in the queue.

For all the headphones the insulation around the pin prevented it from fitting in the headphone jack. Did apple put out any special converters for this? I remember steve saying that the headphone jack is a standard 3.5mm at macworld..... it is 3.5mm but sure isn't standard if it can't fit any headphones other than the ones that come with the iphone. :mad:

FIXED: I could connect to my router (Actiontec gt701-wg) or any address if I knew the IP, but any named web addresses would result in "Safari cannot connect..." So I figured I had a DNS issue. I erased the 192.168.0.1 from iPhone's DNS list (it was first) and left my ISP's DNS. Works great. Safari, GMail, maps, stocks, weather, etc. now all better!

Why wouldn't iPhone skip the DNS that was failing and move onto the 2nd DNS? Why wouldn't the router's DNS function on iPhone? Seems like an issue worthy of Apple's attention.

Apparently the first DNS server for my ISP went down. My laptop's smart enough to fall back to the secondary DNS server. Although a second one is listed on the iPhone, it apparently won't use it, and Safari times out because the first DNS server was down. I switched the 2nd one with the 1st one in the wireless setup on the iPhone and it's working. It shouldn't obviously happen very often, but Apple needs to fix this in the future.

I haven't tested this listening to music but I have been able to reproduce it with movies. Ok so I am watching a movie and using the headphones that were included with the phone (with the clickable mic). So I want to test out the click on the mic, so I press the mic and the movie pauses. I then click again and the movie resumes. But now I want to adjust the volume. The slider under the Play FF REW does not work any more (what comes up when you tap the screen). Ok so I exit out of the iPod and go back in. I start the movie, and the slider works. I adjust the volume. I then pause and resume using the click mic and the slider no longer works.

The steps:
1) Plug in the included headphones.
2) Play a video through the iPod
3) Use the slider controls (not the side controls) to adjust volume
4) Pause the movie with the click mic
5) Resume the movie with the click mic
6) Try and adjust the volume with the slider control.

I've had this problem. A restart brought the spell corrections back. It's a bug that is hopefully addressed in 1.1.

I would like to know how many of you have your itunes library on external hard drives and are able to sync successfully with the iphone.

Mine is on a USB2 500gb hard disk, and connecting iPhone would cause my hard disk to be unusable, would beach ball itunes and make finder unresponsive. Forcibly removing my hard disk and replugging it would bring back normalcy for that session. The same problem faithfully repeats everytime.

This one is odd. I've got an 8GB iPhone, but when I loaded it up with over a couple of gigs of music, it suddenly said that it had a total of 3.7xGB of RAM, and that I had about 170MB of space left. So it thought it had only around 4GB total.:confused:

I deleted a couple of playlists, and suddenly it reported that I had over 7GB free. I'd love to add those playlists back, but something in this seems to cause a misreport in the total RAM.

Aside from that, I get the same general problems with Safari freezing up the phone from time to time.

I get random power downs a lot, perhaps twice a day. The phone is normally idle, but on one occasion it was in my hand. On repower up the silver apple shows as it reboots, so its not just going to sleep.

Since the update I have had very very spotty performance from the email, most of the time I get no sound and no vibration letting me know that there is a message. It is set to check every 15 and all sounds are on. Messages come in, and I can see the red circle once I go to the main screen, but there is nothing telling me that they have been waiting there.

Hmm. I have found that if I hang up a call 'End Call' and then immediately hit the home button the display goes blank. The phone is still on (I can hear calls, but obviously cannot answer them). If I reboot, the display comes back. I can reproduce this pretty consistently.

I notice that sometimes the screen will just go blank when unlocking to a SMS or call. The home button sometimes doesnt wake the phone, and my main gripe is that the battery indicator is retarded. This is my third phone and this one has the best battery life of the three, but when the battery dies and I recharge it, not only does it take forever to recharge, but the indicator will show the plug meaning it's fully charged. The issue comes when it is unplugged. The battery icon is not filled and it doesnt reset the usage stats. I have to proceed to restart the phone and plug it in one more time because it will reset the stats. This happened on my last phone too, but this one does it every time. Very annoying.

Another thing: Voicemail volume is UNHEARABLE. I don't mean quiet, it's seriously probably less than a dB or two.

Running the stopwatch for long periods (several hours) produces the following bug -

1. Stopwatch shows 0 time, but red stop button on screen indicating stopwatch running - i.e. time not incrementing but stopwatch apparently running.

2. Hitting stop or lap produces time like 9400 hours,

3. Happens often after incoming call, but sometimes just when switching to other iPhone apps.

Seems like some other app is bombing the stopwatch data area.

Started a thread about it here (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?p=4547971) ... this is how to replicate it:

1. Go into the camera
2. From the camera, go to your photo library
3. Select a picture that was taken in landscape
4. Rotate iPhone so you're viewing the picture in landscape
5. while *still* holding the phone in landscape, touch the screen to bring up the controls and touch the camera button to go BACK to the camera.
6. More times then not, going back to the camera like this will cause the display to split. Still takes pictures okay, but the camera display will be cut in two. Harmless but odd none-the-less.

I have noticed that in settings, usage it shows 'Time sincelast charge' shows 'usage and 'stanby' time.

Last night before turning off the phone it showed 2 days 2 hours on the standby section but when switching it back on this morning it shows only 1 day and 6 hours stanby?

Has anyone came across this glitch?

If you (accidentally) delete an email, then go to the trash and 'move' the email back to the Inbox (seems like the only way to 'undelete') then the email is gone from both the Inbox and the Trash.

I tried reproducing this and it happened 3 times. No trace of the emails.

Belkin makes a converter. It was designed that way intentionally for exclusivity purposes. You can buy the Belkin converter at an Apple store. I actually bought one at the airport out of desperation!

Hi all, newbie with a new problem...

Post 1.1.3 update, I've got a bluetooth problem. I'm paired with a Garmin nuvi 680, no problems before the update. After I updated with 1.1.3, the phone's bluetooth turns itself on and off every 15-30 seconds or so. I rebooted both devices, re-paired each device also.

Anyone out there with the same problem? Any answers?

Guys, I'm experiencing lots of bugs with my v.1.1.1 iPhone, which has been unlocked with anySIM and is running on O2 Ireland Pay-As-You-Go.

(1) Incoming text messages often do not get through. Especially this is the case with Webtext.
(2) SMS sent from my service provider to notify me that I have voicemail are never received.
(3) SMS sent from my college via some kind of mass-SMS-sender are received but without content (ie I get empty messages)
(4) Outgoing SMS are sometimes held up for 6-7 days before they get through.
(5) Sometimes incoming calls are not shown, and I can't even find them under missed calls

Has anyone experienced anything like this? I know that my warranty is voided from jailbreaking/unlocking, so unless anyone has any suggestions on how to fix it I'll have to go back to my old phone and use my iPhone as an overprized iPod Touch?

Runninmac, I have the same problem with wifi plus bluetooth. Both worked before my iPhone upgraded to the 1.1.3 firmware version.

I've tried every possible combination of restore/recover/reinitialize... numerous times, and the problem remains. It seems like a lot of people are having conflicts between 1.1.3 and specific bt devices, but this is more wide ranging, since you can't even get into the bt device or the wifi network if they are greyed out.

Any help would be appreciated.

When I send a SMS message to one person then close out of the conversation then go back into it the convo, it does not appear in the same order they were sent and received. It is very annoying because I'll read the same text twice and think I've lost my mind because I've replied but my reply is above the received message. It never did that until the 1.1.3 update.

I'm having the same problem. I keep getting the message that 'the device is not compatable with the iPhone do I want to go into Airplane Mode EVEN THOUGH I AM NOT CONNECTED TO ANYTHING and then I can only get sound from my headphone jack. I have Reset my phone but this doesn't fix the problem. I have tried plugging and unplugging the headphones without success. I can't get this problem to stop.:eek:I've had a couple occasions now where I will get or try to make a call, but I will not be able to use the iPhone's built-in speaker or microphone. However, if I switch to speakerphone, it works.

The only way I could get the sound back was to insert the iPhone headphones, and remove them again. My inkling is that when I had the iPhone headphones in previously, the iPhone did not detect them being removed. When I tried to make or receive a call, it put the output through the headphone jack thinking the headphones were still there.

Yesterday, when i pulled out my phone to use it for the 1st time, i realized all my contacts and music had disappeared from my phone. My photos remained in tact, as did all my favorite numbers, resents, voice mail and text messages... however, no names were shown, just the full photo numbers. My Contact page was empty. When i got home, i synced my phone again, and got all my contacts back... later on i noticed when some people called me, the wrong contact photo would show up.... upon going thru most of my contacts, about half of them are mixed up to the wrong person... so iv lost a lot of the contact photos that i took as a contact photo, and didnt choose from my camera roll. A sync didnt fix this problem.

Just got my iPhone, I too have had the problem where the screen flickers off and on in Voicemail, seemingly in response to the accelerometer. Can't replicate it anywhere else so I don't think the phone itself is faulty. Weird.

Edit: Also happens through dialling Voicemail the normal way. Doesn't happen in any call other than Voicemail. Seems to be the ambient light sensor or something - if you cover the earpiece area at the top of the phone with your hand, the screen goes blank!

The visual voicemail issue, it seems, is a light sensor at the top of the phone. When you're in a call, it detects when you're holding the phone to your face and shuts off the screen. However it also does this in the voicemail screen, where it's a little less appropriate. Explains that anyway! More of a design flaw than a bug...

As for Safari, I've never seen anything crash so much since Windows 95. Pre-Beta.

Just noticed today that syncing with outlook calendar does not bring in meeting information like Attendees or meeting requestor. All I have is the event name, location and the text. By looking at this info I cannot tell who invited me to this meeting or who else is going to be in there. Very inconvenient really. Perhaps a feature overlooked?

Not sure if this is quite a bug or what, but I can't imagine anyone wanting the iPhone to function this way:

I'm listening to music with my headphones on. A call comes in, music fades down and (instead of looking like I'm talking to myself), I receive the call and then unplug my headphones to speak to the person. When the call ends, the music comes back on, but over the iPhone speakers.

Hi have had my iphone for about a week. I have spoken to Apple on 2 occasions now about a problem i had.
Everytime i opened up a screen which required keyboard (qwerty) input the phone would close to home screen. Could input or even make calls. I restored two or three times now (pain in the ass) and the tech guy seemed to think it was my McAfee software conflicting????? Have removed it and installed Norton which is provided with my BT account?? so far seems to be working ok???
Any other poster eab6287 mentioned SMS taking time to open ? 5 secs. unable to reply to them so not sure if they have resolved this issue. Well since my problems i have noticed this too. I just thought i was being paranoid after the problems i had.

Since I upgraded to 1.1.4 my iPhone seems to be having issues with Javascript "confirm" boxes in Safari.

A test page is here: http://www.sesmale.co.uk/confirm - you can choose "OK" or "Cancel" from the confirm box, and it then pops up an alert box to tell you which you chose.

On my iPhone, the confirm box box pops up and immediately goes away again, to be replaced by the alert box "You pressed Cancel", then when you acknowledge that, the confirm box returns for long enough for you to answer - but the response is then ignored and the confirm box just silently goes away..

It's like it immediately returns "Cancel" before you can press anything, then lets you make a selection anyway, but ignores the response...

Does anyone else's iPhone do the same thing on the address above or is it a special feature mine has developed?

I have had my iPhone since 6/29 and had really zero problems. Sure there are things to improve and some bugs, but nothing that really affected the normal usability of the phone (except browsing on EDGE)...

Recently, though, my visual voicemail is VERY slow or totally non-responsive - I have a good signal 3 - 5 bars, but many times I can see the VM, but when I tap on it to listen, it won't download. I have a VM that has been sitting for 2 and a half hours that I can't listen to via visual voicemail. Called ATT - they said call apple - called apple they called ATT and ATT wants to reset my data plan, but that will erase all my VM, so I need to listen to it first... well, if I could listen to it I wouldn't be calling!!!! I know I can call my VM, but that is a pita.

Anybody else having this? Any workable solutions?

Are they songs that you imported from CDs? If they are, try to convert them to AAC. I found that solution here on MacRumors awhile back and it worked! It's a pain to identify which songs do it and then have to go to the PC to convert.

I can't type Chloe in a text or email. When I get to the E the key doesn't work, and even keeping finger down and moving only highlights the surrounding keys. after typing the wrong letter I can backspace and type an E, or sometimes AutoCorrect changes a R to an E, but it is annoying.

Turn the iPhone into landscape mode and it shows the correct album art as well as the correct artist, song name, and album. Now I return the iPhone to portrait mode and go back to the Artists screen and scroll down to The Offspring. Same thing here, click shuffle and still looks great. Now turn the iPhone into landscape mode and something is wrong. It shows the correct cover art for The Offspring Greatest Hits, but the Artist is displayed as Boston, and the album art is in the wrong order.

I'm seeing a similar thing with compilation albums. In portrait mode the track details are correct, go to landscape mode and it shows the wrong artist.

Anyone have this problem:

When listening to an album and doing nothing else (display is dark), upon reaching the end of a particular song (or starting another), the phone restarts. I've actually had the problem repeat for the same album at the same point at the album (Exile on Main Street). It seems to happen only when playing the whole album (just picking out the song and listening through doesn't do it). It happened both on my 8GB and 16GB (I replaced the first) all running 1.1.4.

It's only happened to me 4 times (I don't often have the opportunity to listen to a whole album through.)

I'd be interested to see how many people have had their touch screen crap out. I had a small band on the top of the phone that quit responding to touch. In safari, I couldn't tap the title bar and get the page to scroll to the top. In stocks, I couldn't select the first stock.

I validated that it was the screen by going to safari and turning to landscape. I could touch the top bar then and it would scroll up to the top. But, nothing on the side of the phone (where the band is) would respond to touch.

I sent it in Friday and have received word from Apple that they're replacing it. Anyone else get this? :confused:

It doesn't really have to do with time; it has to do with available memory. iPhone only has 128 MB of memory (and it doesn't use the flash for virtual memory) so once it runs out of that, it'll clear out Safari pages and reload them when you scroll to them again.

Given that some background processes run on it, this may happen even without your input or action. Not much to be done about it except adding more memory (how come no one is putting "more memory and a faster CPU" on their iPhone 2 wish list?)

Yeah, had the same thing. I went to the Apple store and they told me it is due to some data (my settings or something) that was screwing up the phone.
They did a restore, but not from a backup! A fresh restore to factory settings and the camera works now.

I just crossgraded from the official 2.0 software 1,2 to 1,1 firmware on my original iPhone without a hitch, but this problem occurs in both firmwares:
When I listen to a voicemail with my bluetooth headset connected, the phone doesn't give me an option to play it back through the headset. It only shows the 'speaker' button in the top right. In the previous 1.1.4 'speaker' changed to something like 'sources' and allowed me to listen over bluetooth. Anyone else seen this?
BTW: when I put 1,1 on, I did a 'clean' install without restoring from a backup.

I've noticed that if you try to position the cursor using the magnifying glass in text that is near the top of the screen, the magnifying glass will be off the screen. Anyone else have this issue? It is rather annoying because generally when I'm positioning the cursor the text is near the top of the screen because the keyboard is taking up the bottom.

I've noticed a similar but different bug: I was trying to position the cursor using the magnifying glass in text near the top of the screen, just as you were... but my problem was there just wasn't any cursor. I could move the magnifying glass around and view the text enlarged, but there was no visible cursor to position.

I tried several times, disengaging and retrying, but didn't get the cursor. I scrolled the sceen a little so it wasn't at the very top, and voila, the cursor was there and I was able to position it just fine.

I haven't been able to duplicate the problem again, though, but it definitely happened the one time, and I'll be keeping an eye out for it happening again.

Everytime i try to send an email from 2 of my 3 accounts on my iphone , the email app crashes and puts me back on the home page.

Three times now this has happened with 5 bars of signal. The signal will totally drop and the phone says "no signal" - just dropped it entirely. Then I reboot the phone, and it says "no sim". I reboot again, and same message. Reboot again, and it locks in 5 bars of signal, no problem.

Today is the first time this has happened - it's been perfect before now. Anyone else having this issue at all? Sounds like it could be hardware or software related.

Yes, same problem on my iPhone. Wiped out two emails this way. This doesn't help when getting familiar with the keyboard.

BTW, why won't the keyboard do Landscape when typing emails? The keys will be larger, which will make it easier to type.

that may not be a bug, it maybe by design. even in Windows Mobile you have to choose folders to sync. If you click on one of the folders on the iphone it will then sync that folder, but it does not auto push to them that I have found, but again I think that this is be design and not a bug.

Hey guys I'll keep it short.

Have an iPhone 3G synced with my Google contacts.
I'm from The Netherlands though so I have addresses like this, that's how we do address formatting in Holland:

(Street name) Imastreet 31
(Postal code + city) 1124 GB Amsterdam
(Optional, province) Noord-Holland

It syncs to a contact, I open the contact in my contact application, tap the address and Google maps opens, but it puts "Verenigde Staten" (Dutch for United States) after EVERY address!! It drives me nuts because I have to correct it every single time because the app can't find this address in the United States (doh it's in Holland).

I already tried putting "Nederland" instead of "Noord-Holland" so it knows sure what country to fill in, but still "Verenigde Staten" is put in.

Anyone has any helpor idea how to report this stupid bug to Apple? I would like to assist them in reporting this so..

I've got a good one for you. I have the rubber DLO jacket, with the clear plastic that goes over the screen. When I use the phone as a phone and hold it to my ear, then pull away, the screen goes black for about 10 seconds. If I take the stupid cover off, it doesn't do that. Hard to imagine a cheap piece of rubber could screw up the phone somehow.

I'm not sure if you noticed it or not but just to the left of the earpiece of the phone their are three sensors, if you cover them up they might do what your describing. It may not be the problem but it's worth mentioning.

I have my work email (POP) and Gmail both synced with my phone. When I go into the mail app I can get into my inboxes and everything just fine, but it never successfully updates. It just says "connecting", with the spinning "I'm thinking" logo.

WTF? Thanks!There is a thread in the Apple support forum for iPhone Mail that contains more than 200 posts about exactly this issue. I have a hunch (my latest one of many) that the trouble happens when the iPhone tries to fetch mail from a POP server when it is inaccessible because it is closed while another client is checking it.

I have a reasonably clear recollection of a dialog that would appear in firmware version 1.1.4 that said mail couldn't be updated because the server was busy. I have not seen that dialog since updating to 2.0. I think that the Mail client isn't handling this event gracefully by presenting the dialog and exiting. Instead it just continues to try to connect. All accounts are then afflicted because Mail continues to be busy trying to connect to the POP server.

I have spent most of this weekend getting mail successfully on my iPhone, but I have not had any desktop clients running. When I turned on Mail on my iMac, once agiain iPhone Mail hung while trying to fetch mail.

I have lengthened the period between checks of the server on my desktop to attempt to minimize the chance that both the desktop and the iPhone will try to access the POP server similaneously.

This is only a work around. This was never a problem before 2.0 firmware. Apple needs to fix this.

On at least two occasions now, pluggin my iPhone into the computer has caused an immediate near-shutdown. The screen goes black and video output stops. As far as I can tell, every program crashes. It will not respond to anything but a power reboot. The computer itself stays powered up but I can't use it.

Shine a flashlight (or other bright light) at the iPhone near the earpiece and you will see the sensors. Make sure your case doesn't cover them. I had to make the hole for the sensor from my old case larger so that I wouldn't have similar problems.

Here is one thats hilarious. On your iPhone in Mail for .Mac or .me users, you can view your Apple Notes and To Do's that you added on your desktop. Cool, it syncs right into iPhone. Now try doing the same thing on your iPhone. Go ahead and write a Note or To Do's. What comes up is one huge bug. :rolleyes:

Hi all. This is happening to me now, and I don't know what it could be. Names that have special characters (romántico, cumpleaños, corazón) are changing automatically to other characters (rom·ntico, cumpleaÒos, corazÛn). When I go back and correct the characters, the names don't change once they play again. This happens in the track names, artists, albums... everywhere there is such characters.

I thought it was a plug in a downloaded from Facebook called iLike, since that's the last thing I remember installing in iTunes. But I did a search for iLike and trashed them all. I restarted hoping that was it, but the problem still exists.

Where do installers place iTunes plugins? Other than that, what else could be changing names when tracks play?

I don't know what's causing this and it happens about 50% of the time. When I connect my iPhone (3G 16gb) to iTunes it says that it is installing all of the apps that I have had installed on my phone since day one....after about 10 minutes of "installing" and syncing it says that I have 15 errors and my apps were not installed(I currently have 15 apps). Looking at my phone, all the icons still exist and most still work but 1 or 2 (different apps each time) do not work, when the icon is tapped a popup window comes up that says something like this application cannot be opened.

I have to remove the apps that don't work from both iTunes and the iPhone and then redownload and resync for them to work. (not difficult but frustrating especially when it is an app that keeps records like WeightTrack and I lose data)

FYI - Using windows XP, iTunes 7.7, has happened with both apps that I purchased through iTunes and iPhone.

Anyone else have this issue? what am I doing wrong?

iPhone and Outlook

Simple, non-repeating appointments added into iPhone will sync into outlook as a recurrence event. The new appointments do not show up on the host computer under month/day/year views, only under view all (advanced). Only Title, Date, and Location sync properly, appointments notes and alarms do not.

You can bypass this by making appoinments entered in the iPhone as a daily recurrence and ending it on the same day. They will now show up on the host machine under month/day/year views.

Apple, please resolve this issue with the next firmware/ software update.

Start a new email. Then write anything you like and end with a period. Now, immediately after the period (no spaces) enter any capital letter. Then hit backspace. It should just delete that last capital letter. Instead, it goes on a deleting spree erasing everything you've written unless you stop it quickly. To stop it you have to hit shift (up arrow) and it will stop.

Yes, I have the same bug. It's not mail application specific... happens in other text editing scenarios. Also, I've noticed that the shift arrow stays lit up while the erasing is happening.

Besides my ringer, none of my sounds work. New text message, new voicemail, new mail, sent mail, calendar alerts, lock sounds and keyboard clicks... none of them work. There was another thread here about text message sounds specifically, but that did not help me. I don't really care that much about keyboard clicks and lock sounds, but I keep missing messages, which is definitely a problem. Any help?

Sounds familiar as it just happened to me. I did a soft reset of the phone and the sounds work fine now.

However, what I found interesting is that after the reset, my phone came up as a newly activated phone, with all my settings lost but all my apps still installed. I had to move all my icons around again (the phone even came up with the dialog box on how to move icons).

Weird.

when ipod is playing and you browse the web, ipod stops playing after about a minute. does not matter if you are using wifi or edge.

Safari crashes randomly, happened twice while trying to acces this forum actually.

whenever i try to open some applications( especially the book application) the application frequently quits to home screen. It is the same with Safari. Some times when i try to open some HTML files on book application the

Yesterday I had to help my friend who is a new iPhone user restore her iPhone because her home screen would not come up...instead it would just bring up the Favorites (which is typically a double click on the home button), and would not charge. Had to restore it just for it to work properly.

And...all of the text messaging sounds work except for the "Tri tone" sound, which when is turned on, and a text is received, all the iPhone does is vibrate.

Very frustrating for my friend who spent half a grand on the transition to the new iPhone for it to not work properly. Any ideas? Just an early 2.0 bug?

I was in a call and I was browsing the web at the same time. I opened a pdf, Safari quit and I was left with this.

Typing a SMS is very slow sometimes, I can type a whole word before anything appears on the screen. I have to press the home button, and then reopen SMS to get typing back to normal speed. I had this problem on 2.0 on my iPhone classic, and on my 3G

1. pic rotate. 2x so far my pics will automatically rotate to the right when i view them and not go back . i have to restart and it worked fine

2. as i have read about the sounds. i have had the keyboard clicking sound like it was muffled and also a couple times and when i got a text or email the sound did not happen

3. when taken pics, a few of them had a warped look to them.


these are the things that i have ran into. i can't wait for the update because i know it's not the phone.

thanks apple for just rushing something that a lot of people looked forward to out there and drag your feet with an update ;) what happened to testing?
