Go into applications, then utilities - Activity Monitor gives you all the info you want. Alternatively if you want a widget - iStat/iStat Pro are pretty good
[sorry read CPU instead of GPU]

Don't think so since most of the time, if the GPU is hard at work it means you're running a game or watching some high bitrate h.264 HD content or something which also means that its fullscreen. So, not much point I guess

hhmmm true... ahwell just wanted to know. seeing what tasks the GPU did like what the CPU, how much ram its using does would be interesting.

Nowadays GPU is used for much more than just playing games.
For a Mac GPU monitor see http://www.atpurpose.com/atMonitor/

OpenGL Driver Monitor (in the Developer tools) can give a pretty detailed picture of GPU usage.

atMonitor uses the same APIs as "OpenGL Driver Monitor" and it's a stand alone application. It is not a GUI on top of "OpenGL Driver Monitor"
You can quickly launch "OpenGL Driver Monitor" from atMonitor's "Utilities->Launch" menu in case you need more detailed GPU info.

The FPS is the instantaneous FPS, and not an average, sampled at 1 second intervals.

Would you mind sending an email to bugs@atpurpose.com explaining what happened? You can use the atMonitor's "Beta->Submit a bug report" menu as a shortcut. And if you could attach your System's profile, or at least the part of it that shows your GPU info, then that would be great.

Is this app working for any Mac Pro Nehalem users? The GPU section is not working on a MP Nehalem with ATI 4870.
