So I just installed iWork '08. It's almost a full 200 MB smaller then iWork '06 and it includes Numbers! I love installing something only to find the bloat factor wasn't adhered to! I've attached a screen shot to explain what I'm talking about ... any idea if it's some of the HD themes missing or why this release is slimmed down? Thanks!

Interesting considering they added a new app. i wonder what they cut out?

They cut iMovie down quite a bit, right?

If I understand you one way, wrong package.

If I understand you another, iMovie was totally revamped, so cutting that down would make more sense than cutting Pages or Keynote which look as robust as before.

I understand the difference is due to the way graphics are accessed by the templates. In iWork '05 & '06 the various graphics in the templates existed in each language version. Now, the templates link to the same graphic. Since there are about 15 different language versions of the templates, that a lot of space saved.

Cool! Somebody was thinkin!

I never thought to check size, but Pages and Numbers are f'n brilliant. Thank god I don;t have to put out maximum suck-bux for MS OFFICE anymore. Numbers really does improve over Excel with idiot-easy spreadsheeting AND works with my old EXCEL DOCS!

Woo!

Do you think it could also be because the programs install files into other folders too? Like GarageBand and iMovie?

No. For one, iMovie and Garage band are lying in the applications folder as raw apps. No additional folders.

iWork has always been in its own iWork directory. As it has been said, they slimmed down the programs by reducing redundant files.

I don't know why, but my iWork '06 folder is 1.95 GB, and my iWork '08 folder is only 697.1 MB.

Any ideas?

EDIT: It's the Themes Folder in Keynote.app>Resources that's taking up 1.02 GB. Any ideas why this folder is so big?

Mine are 1.36 and 598 respectively (although I did strip out languages from my apps recently - saved a gig overall on my system)

Didn't you read my post, #8, in this thread?
