There are some amazing commercials out there, most of which are better than the actual shows.
Excluding the New G5 commercials, :) what's your current favorite?
Anyone else seen the Converse commercial with the ball moving around on the court and Mos Def doing the voice over? It's hot.

One good one is kind of a commercial, but more a banner for family guy. The one about the great American family. Everyone is beating each other up. It's pretty funny. Though recently the best commercial I've seen is the converse commercial with the invisible players.

I don't know if this ad still runs or what but I got it off of the interweb the other day, it's the yard fitness one with the naked basket ball player, and also the John west bear fighting one is cool aswell. I'm from NZ so these ads don't play here but I get to see some of them on those stupid best ad programmes.

one of the most effective ads I saw was one of the new anti-drug commericials it was logical and not outlandish like most others...
theres a boy about 10-13 yrs old, yeah my brother, he started smoking pot when he was about my age
he never got into heroine
he never got arrested
he never overdosed (more similar to these)
he never really did much of anything, and they show this guy hanging out in a basement of his parent house,
honestyl one of the most effective anti-drug ads i've seen.

lyrics
This chick's rockin' your bro on the dance floor.
But she's towing an anchor.
A junior investment banker.
Who's talkin' about herself and not much more.
Oh
So buy her a beer,

Hey, it worked on me. As soon as I saw that ad I had a hankering for a game of pachinko.

It has been a while since it ran, but I really loved that commercial. You might remember it: a bunch of young people driving at night looking at the moon. Meanwhile Nick Drake's "Pink Moon" plays. They eventually arrive at their destination, a party, and some frat boy looks as though he is about to hoark. The riders then decide to leave and go driving. I hate anything to do with cars, but that ad was very special.

There was a commercial for Mercedes that was called "Reincarnation":
It openned with a junked SEL sedan from the 1960's being dropped into a car crusher and a cut to a view from the back seat looking throught the windshield.
As the crusher starts, the windshield cracks and we see a montage of scenes from the car's life -- being bought new, kids playing, sold used, parked in a crappy area of town...
Then the view cuts to driving into a tunnel, and a white light at the end which grows to white out the whole screen ("Go into the light!").
The white fades to reveal white-coated Mercedes engineers rolling a brand new car off of the line.
My reaction to this commercial was inexplicably emotional -- it made me want to actually go out and buy a Mercedes. Incredible.
I called Mercedes and their ad agency to see if I could get a copy, but they couldn't understand that I just wanted to have a copy of their commercial. The ad agency said that it was going to play during the Emmy Awards. I taped the whole show. Nuthin'. Now it's gone...*sniff*...oh, well.

there was an ad for porsche's boxster not too long ago - someone in a coma for 50 years wakes up and the first thing he does is go for a spin in his (still pristine) porsche roadster. younger guy in a boxster sees it, speeds up to catch it, looks at the old roadster with a 'wow' look, the old guy sees the boxster and says, "oh sh-" as the boxster speeds off. pretty cool.

I like the Kirin beer commercials Harrison Ford did here. The one with the ramen shop in dotobori was the best. Apparantly, they had to close several streets down as the groud was huge. I have been to the ramon shop, it has a big red dragon sticking out of the wall and into the street. Nice pictures of Harry sucking noodles.

Heh I just though of one of my fave older commercials.
It was a Heineken commercial, and it shows a guy walking into a bar, and he sees a redhead, a blonde, and a brunette; then a rabbi, a priest and like a nun, and then it shows a horse that looks sorta sad.
It was hilarious and actually made me laugh the first time I saw it :D

Has anybody heard of AdCritic.com (http://www.adcritic.com) ?
A few years ago, its service was free. Basically, it was a compendium of commercials, everything high resolution, too. It was great.
Now, it's for a price, but I think it's still pretty cheap. I imagine it was hard to maintain the service for free, what with the immense bandwidth that would require.
The site even had commercials that it made itself. There was an Apple commercial where the cops busted these people whom it seemed were transporting some sort of contraband, perhaps weapons or bombs, or something else of a lethally powerful nature...And then it reveals what it is: And it's a G4.
It was a lot better than Apple's Tank commercial, which most people thought was just a big joke.
There was this other funny commercial that the site made, as well. This one was for 7-up.
There's a guy with a telescope looking into the apartment of the woman who lives in the next building. She walks in and starts taking off her clothes. Then she goes into the fridge and pulls out a coke or some other dark soda. She puts it on her table and then when she's taking off her unmentionables, she happens to be standing behind the coke--SO THE GUY CAN'T SEE HER!!
It was hilarious! Thinking about it, I'm not sure that it would actually convince people to buy a 7-up, esp. if they happen to be attractive women living in tall apartment buildings, but it catches your eye, and that's the important thing.
-------
oh, and speaking of heineken commercials (as tazo did), I just remembered a series of commercials that I THINK was from heineken, though it might have been from another beer company.
The first commercial had this really annoying lady singing some cheesy opera, and not really that well. (think Wing does Opera) At the end of the commercial, text to this effect displays:
"If you do not buy our beer, we will continue to play this commercial over and over again."
Later, a new commercial appeared. This time, there was a duet, doubly annoying. Text, something to the effect of:
"Thank you for purchasing our beer. We have had unprecedented growth. However, if you do not continue, we will play THIS commercial repeatedly."
The third, and last commercial, has a whole group of singers. Something like:
"We have done extraordinarily well thanks to you. Now we have a special surprise for you, to show our gratitude."
The curtains around the singers open up, and there are several lions surround the group. The screen fades to black and you hear a struggle and screams.

*The beer 12 pack commercial with the lady getting into the shower and seeing a turkey in the shower cuz they had to move the turkey to make space in the fridge for the 12 pack-sounds dumb, but its totally hilarious.
*The old nike commercial with the guy being chased by the chicken (if you've seen it you'll remember it, if you haven't its too hard to explain)

What is the product being advertised with the lyrics:
"You're my Koochy Woochy one..." The voice is some Euro sounding guys voice.
The images are all soft and fuzzy, bunnys babys and ducklings. I can't recall if it is Downy, Snuggle or Charmin, or it might be something else.

I can't think of any particularly good ones that I've seen recently, but here goes for vote for the weirdest one.
A few ducks fly past. The screen then fills with a fact about ducks. Then we see more ducks fly past. Then another fact about ducks. Then more ducks fly past. This goes on and on for like 2 minutes! Then the ducks all start quacking, and that's the end of the ad. I never did figure out what it was trying to advertise.
Another ad that I don't understand the logic behind - here in NZ we have a big monopolistic telco (think MS) called Telecom. Telecom isn't the only telco but they certainly have most of the market. Anyway, they run ads, usually featuring animals doing funny or stupid things, then it comes up with a Telecom logo. They don't advertise any particular product or service, just the company.
What I don't understand is why they're advertising their company. Everyone in NZ knows who Telecom is, so there's no reason to advertise. Maybe they're trying to get more customers? But the people who aren't using Telecom made a conscientious decision to go with the competition, and aren't about to suddenly switch back just because of an ad.

When I was very little, there used to be commericial for Bufferin, where they would compare it with regular aspirin by showing two glass water-filled figurines, one with each type of tablet in its stomach. The tablets would sort of disintegrate, migrate upward and gradually appear reassembled in the figurines' heads (with the BUfferin reassembling faster).
The reassembly part is what really amazed me, I even tried putting aspirin into a glass of water at home (yes, Mom was incredibly patient) but it just kind of disintegrated into a little heap at the bottom.
It was a real letdown when I learned about amination.

There's a couple out there I like. the one if for a car (I want to say Kia, but I'm not sure). It starts out, guy walks out of apartment and looks at his decrepit looking ride. Guy looks around suspiciously, to see if anybody is watching. Guy takes off CAR COVER designed to look like decrepit looking car. Guy then climbs in his new car, and drives away. I get a laugh every time I see it.
I also like that ford commercial where the cat gets its head cut off. :D

Two come to mind, one being the MB "Reincarnation" ad.
The other, I have only seen once.
It was a weeks after 9/11. There was a Budweiser commerical that showed the Clydesdale (sp?) horses trotting through the snow for a good 20 seconds.
Right at the end of the commerical, they stop and stand across the water from NYC, where the WTC towers used to be. It shows a close up of the first horse's face, and sort of slowly zooms in on his eyes. He then bows his head to the ground, and the rest of the horse bow their heads after him.
It completely gave me chills. Great, great, commercial.
If anyone knows where I could find it, I would appreciate it.

Back a few years ago, mercedes had a a very cool commercial advertising the S-Class. It went like this. A man woke up to auto opening blinds, went to his closet to an auto tie selector, went to his kitchen where his tv turned on automatically, grabbed his keyless-go card, went out to his s class, touched the door handle, got in and pressed the button on the shift to start the car, pulled on the voice control lever and selected a track, drove down his drive way, opened the window and clapped to turn on his sprinklers. Then at the end of the commercial it said "Like No Other". PPLEASE someone tell me what the commercial is, because i'm dying to know.

One of my favorites is the Mercedes-Benz "Reincarnation" commercial. I tried the mercedes-benz website with the link provided earlier in the thread (8-11-03)...but they have since updated the site.
Does anyone have or know where I can find the Mercedes-Benz "Reincarnation" Commercial?
I realize I am asking for the commercial way after the fact, but if anyone could help me find it, I would really appreciate it.
I realize I'm responding way after the fact, but I found this thread in a Google search trying to find the very commercial you are trying to find. I found it after about 2 hours of searching and I uploaded it to YouTube for you, and everyone else who requested to see it! Enjoy guys! :)

Haha, you'd think it would get old after a while, but Yogi Berra has been on that Aflac commercial for a long time saying "They give you cash, which is just as good as money!" The facial expressions on everybody's faces after Yogi says anything are priceless!
I also like those Mastercard Peyton Manning commercials, "*duh-nuh-na-nuh, na-nuh* CHARLIE!" "d-caf! *boom boom* d-caf! *boom boom*" "Cut that meat! Cut that meat!"
Jack in the Box always has some good commercials too, with the "chipotle! chi..poht..loh? chipotle! chip-a-chop-lay?" and the one with the "afternoon pick-me-up" cheerleader! :D :p :o

There's a great ad on at the moment for a Home Insurance company.
A mother comes how and finds her kids smashing plate. The thing that makes it great is that kids have set up a treadmill on and upward angle facing a wall. While the treadmill's going the put plates on it which then get hurled into the wall. :D
I've tried to find it on the net, but haven't had much luck.
