Just purchased from Apple Retail Store.

Box says 16 and back of iPod says 16. But both iTunes and the iPod it self say capacity is 8 (or 7.3). I guess I'll reset it, but image that would help.

Anyone else have this happen???

wow thats wierd. how could it read the completely wrong thing? does it assume that its a certain type of harddrive? and not actually read that harddrive. meh idk.

I guess they are producing the 8gigs at the same factory as the 16. I suppose that means the 8gig models will likely have the screen issues as the 16 gigs, but it might be worth checking the quality of the dark colors to see if it applies.

OK, restored (which failed, then restarted iMac, and then it finished restoring) - but to no avail. I paid for 16 and got an 8. Wonder if I can get a a discount or something when I return it?

You sure iTunes didn't automatically load your songs onto it?

Try putting more than 8 gigs of content in it

Sure you can get a discount. They will refund you the difference between an 8GB & a 16GB. That's a no-brainer!!

I am typing this on my new 8 gig touch and I will have u know the screen is fine with videos. It is an amazing device that borders perfect.

That means that you only have a 8GB flash drive in the unit.

One of your flash chips is likely DOA. Pretty odd since I ASSume there is some sort of basic sanity check on the flash memory at the factory before it gets put into devices.

Anyhow, obvious solution is to contact Apple and get it exchanged.

wow...maybe it is using 2 8gb drives and one isnt working.
bummer because then a 16gb iphone wont happen for a while.

just take it back and get another. i don't think you can get something for the inconvenience this caused, though.
