Sorry I have another question. I have been working all night on this thing. -On start up when the grey apple logo is in the center, a black box appears in the upper left that says -2.05a#

It is a early grey slot loading iMac that I just installed OS 10.2 on. Earlier today I wiped out the disk. I reinstalled 10.1.5 from the startup disk, then downloaded the firmware update 4.1.9 . Then I installed the OS 9 disk so I could boot up in 9 and install the firmware update. After doing that and holding down the programers key and all that jazz, I booted from 10.1.5 again. That worked fine. Then I restarted with the 10.2 CD from start up and installed 10.2. Now the error appears at the top. Whats going on? Is there anything I can do?

Thanks a lot, this is nerve racking.

Does it look like the terminal?

Can you run 'top' ?

I think I had a similar problem.

Please, someone help here, I leave for collge tomorrow morning and I need to get this thing working so my sisters have a computer to use.

try holding down Apple-S at atart-up and type "fsck -y" at the prompt.

also, you can boot from the CD and repair permissions.
