Hi

I have a 5th generation iPod and I have the extended warranty on it, so if it is broken I want to get it fixed now while I can.

http://www.mp4playerguide.com/wp-content/uploads/2006/11/ipod-5th-gen.jpg

When I bought it I bought a rubber sleeve the same day so I never really payed attention.

But now that I have it out of the sleeve I see the middle button is slightly depressed lower that the outer track piece. It does not feel right when I press on it. It works, but I thought the button was flush with the track wheel? I thought it should have a definate 'click' to it when pressed, but it kind of rocks and feels wobbly. But the rubber sleeve I suspect masked that feel so I never noticed.

It is flush on my nano, but not sure about this one and I have not found anyone I know who has one for me to compare to.

Anyone one who has one of these and is your middle button flush with the outside track?

Thanks for your help. :)

Yes your button is broke, I think it will have to file for chapter 11 protection.

I sent it in. They are sending it back - as is.

"It passes all diagnostics."

IDIOTS!!! A chimpanzee could see that the button no longer clicks like it is supposed to.

Last iPod I will ever buy.

Clearly this calls for a trip to the Apple store to explain your case.

Just thought I'd follow up. My Apple rep could not do anything as it "Sort of worked". It was Apple Tech support's call and they said it "was working with in acceptable" parameters.

Anyhow I got mad and took it apart. It seems there is a little rubber pad that is held on with adhesive. This pad goes between the outside button and the electronic switch on the circuit board. This rubber pad had slid out from the middle where it belongs and off to the side. I moved it back to where it was supposed to be and it is now back to normal and working fine.

Anyone with half an ounce of technical apptitude could of fixed this. I should of video taped it and sent it to their tech support department....sigh. I guess if you want it done right you have to do it yourself.
