Entourage has just died and wants to rebuild.
Unfortunately neither rebuild not advanced rebuild has worked.
In trying to fix it I realised the entourage database is 1.99Gb in size.
Other than go to a backup a week old and start using Mail any suggestions?

The 2GB file size limit is not Entourage's fault; it's probably a hardware limitation (I think... can someone explain why this is the case?). At least, I run into the 2GB limit with Photoshop files pretty frequently.
I'm betting that your Entourage database wasn't 2GB in size before the rebuild happened - was it?? I once did a rebuild in Entourage and it turned my ~300MB database into a 1.69GB database. It must have put a lot of extra 1s and 0s in there somehow (try compressing that file; I'll bet you get a pretty good compression ratio). I tried and tried but couldn't fix it ... good luck but I'm betting you'll have to go back to your backup. A week ago isn't bad.

Backup was 1.1gb in size. So your probably right it tried to rebuild and hit the 2gb limit and then died permanently.

You must not be using HFS+ then.

Nope. It is HFS+.
edit to say: well, mine is anyway - I don't know about Golem's HD though!

Hmm my Apply system profiler doesnt show.
Just 3 lines with Volume Size ,writeable, ejectable.
But i am 99% sure I formated as HFS+ 2 odd years ago as I have the previous 2-3 times.

Install the Office V.x updater (10.1.2), which raises the size limit on databases from 2gb to 4gb. Worked for me with exactly the same problem...
