Apple sent out promotional emails to customers tonight confirming their plans for a Black Friday sale on November 23.
http://images.macrumors.com/article/2007/11/20/readyset_300.png (#)Shopping event is available only at the Apple Online Store (http://store.apple.com) on November 23 from 12:01 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. PST and at Apple Retail Stores (http://www.apple.com/retail/). Check your local Apple Retail Store for special hours. Sale prices are limited to stock on hand and while supplies last.
Historically, Apple's Black Friday sale discounts have been modest (old price lists (http://guides.macrumors.com/Black_Friday)). The exact discounts will not officially be announced prior to the sale day.

Tablet with removable keyboard. I think I'll have to wait

Not that this thread is very specific anyway, but why aren't all the Apple computers shipping with the new iMac keyboard too? Anyone know what they have done in the past when introducing a new keyboard or mouse??? You think they will switch to the new ones after the next revisions?? Any insight people?

If the iPhone sees a discount, there's going to be another big buzz generated...

It would be a smart move for seasonal sales, I have a feeling they're going to do something unexpected, since this year sees the launch of the iPhone / iPod Touch, which is a pretty big leap for Apple...

I'm excited.

I would assume that the items pictured in the promotion to resemble a shopping bag would be indicative of the items that would be on sale this Friday. Unfortunately, I can't see an iPhone in that picture.

Is this in the UK as well.

Last year the German Apple Online Store had a similar promo event running (one day only!). It was not much advertised (as there is no Black Friday shopping frenzy in Germany) - I happened to stumble about it by chance.

I would guess that they will do it again for their loyal European customers, so keep watching the Apple Online Store on and around the 23rd...

It is fun to wish, want, dream... but Apple doesn't need to knock 25% off the price of the iPhone to sell it.

Yes, I know they knocked of 1/3 the price previously, but that was it.

If you look at previous years sale prices, they are not earth shattering. Keep in mind that you can't combine deals either, so if you are a student wanting a Macbook, you probably won't get any deal better than you already can.

We will see 10% off here and there, and discounts when buying software at the time of purchase etc.

Or get your hopes up and picture yourself walking in with $600 and walking out with a new tablet/touch/updated MBP/with SSD and a cheese grater instead of an optical drive... I don't care.

Meh.

I'm willing to bet Circuit City is eating that 5% off. Apple insist in certain prices and sales on iPods usually have to come out of the retailers bottom line. CC's trying to gain an edge over Best Buy, Walmart, Target, etc; who also sell iPods.

Nope, I don't think Apple Canada does anything specific for Boxing Day/Week (although resellers, like Future Shop, Best Buy, etc. might). I figure the US machine is gearing up for their big ol' Black Friday event, and it's easy to give Canada the "me too" treatment.

Lots of good stuff in the refurb store as of this morning.

No, this sale is everyday in Canada. Well sorta ;)

The only catch: you have to drive to an Apple Store in the US to buy something.

I bought a new SR MacBook two weeks ago in Buffalo, NY, when the dollar was around $1.08 US, and I saved over $300 CAD off of the Canadian Store price!:D

Holy cow... do we have a lot of newbies in here this year for Thanksgiving?

Everyone that has been following the Apple Store for the last few years looks forward to Black Friday for the sales, albeit nothing too crazy, but still a nice discount to be able to warrant purchasing an Apple wireless keyboard and mouse that any other time of the year might seem a little too high.

Plus they always drop the MacBooks(iBooks in the past) and the iMacs by $101.

Last year my wife got me the BT keyboard, BT mighty mouse and COD 2. It was great to know that she got them at the discount!

This year I'm hoping for the following:
Leopard for $99
.Mac for the usual Black Friday $68
iLife for $49

Anyways, you can bet that I'm going to be waking up early, going to the Apple Store, making my shopping cart and then calling in my wife to hit "Purchase" and then MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ME FROM MY WIFE!!!!

Even 10% (or 5% for that matter) is good if it's on something you were going to buy anyway.

I'm planning on being at the shopping center early anyway... why not make the Apple Store the first stop...

They had the Black Friday sale in Canada last year as well, I picked up .Mac for $98 ($41 off) and iPod Radio remote for $48 ($11 off). Other notable discounts were $111 off the MacBook and iMac, $21 off iPod Nano, $31 off iPod. We don't know what this year's discounts will be though. They're modest discounts but an awesome gesture on Apple's part because they're the only retailer that offers anything of this sort in Canada. I may be flocking down to the states after work to do a bit of shopping.

My father just told me that through his company's corporate employee purchasing program, Apple sent out an email with a link to their Apple store page.

The email says they are special 1-day discounts available Friday only. These might be a good indication of the normal retail discounts. here are some examples:

iPod nano 4GB: $140.00
iPod nano 8GB: $187.00
iPod classic 80GB/160GB: $234.00/$328.00
iPod Touch 8GB/16GB: $281.00/$375.00
iPhone: no discount, still $399
Mac mini from $536
iMac from $1,127
Mac Pro from $2,299
Macbook from $1,033
Macbook Pro from $1,839
Wireless mighty mouse $63
Wireless Apple Keyboard $73
Apple TV from $281

Haven't really looked at the non-apple prices, but the apple discounts, especially the iPod ones, seem ok, and if applicable to the normal retail discounts, would be worth buying them online or making a trip to an Apple store if you had planned on getting something anyway.

If January, I'll either buy the updated version, or the discounted old version, depending on the magnitude of the upgrade. I know it's only ~2 more months, but wow, I'm anxious. This'll be my first Mac, been looking for 4+ years :)

If this years black friday deal is the same off as last year and they allow me to get it with the student discount I would be the first in the store. But from what I have read they didn't do that last year.

Right now I have it back ordered through Amazon for 1399.99 after rebates
If I went to the apple store it would cost be 1399 + tax

If the black friday day allows to be combined with the student discount then the cost of the black macbook would be 1298 + tax. (given if its the same discount as last year.)

My guess is that the iPod touch sees a discount or package or something front page worthy of their thanksgiving store but iPhone will be nothing or very small, or the minimal amount off to even be considered a discount.

the iPhone has been overachieving since they put the big price cut on it and has become the new 'phone to have' in probably every demographic. whereas the ipod touch seems to be way underachieving for the level of commercials advertising apple has done trying to make it seem like a big new, must have change to their ipod line. getting some more of the ipod touchs out there would certainly not hurt apple in making sure this product stays differentiated from the iPhone cause right now I hear the word iPhone probably a half dozen times a day and never hear anyone mention the iPod touch.

The email and website say to see a store (like a physical one) for price details. Has anyone been into one today??

I'm sure any deal won't be that great. In MA you still have to pay tax and you could just drive to NH and save money that way which is what I did for my iPhone. So if there is any kind of deal I'm sure (at least here in MA) it will just come out to not paying taxes which still isn't that all that bad a deal, but no different than taking a little trip to NH.

Can anyone say if the Black Friday discounts in the past have been combinable with or better than the regular education discounts on laptops (I'm thinking about MacBook or MBP)? I'm at the point of buying something and want to know whether or not to bother. There is no way I'm actually going to go to a store on Friday because I just can't deal with the crowds, but I would consider buying on-line that day (or before).

This is the same dilemma I'm facing. I went to the store to try to have them give more info, but they wouldn't give me any additional info. They said -- with it being so close why don't you just wait for the sales on Friday.

So I guess I have the same question... does anyone know if there will be any additional discounts on top of the education discount?

Yeah, through my campus Uni store (here in Canada) I see $71 CAD for the wireless keyboard (regular $79).

That has always been the educational price in Canada I got mine at that price last month when they finally started shipping them out.

I posted this elsewhere on MacRumors and I think this is relevant to the discussion. Of course, this EPP email seems to be contradicted by the general apple email sent out to many apple customers (including me) in the last 24 hours. Perhaps the combination of discounts only applies to the online stores (and not in Brick and Mortar locations)?

Black Friday and EPP Store
The government agency I work yesterday (Thursday 11/15) posted an Apple flyer on our intranet site for the Black Friday sale starting at 12:01 am PST to 11:59 pm on Friday 11/23. The flyer said that the sale would be "Online Only" and according to our HR folks you can combine the traditional EPP discount and the black friday savings. No specifics were given on product discounts but I would expect they would be similar to last year's discounts posted above.

Its not US only... we're having it up in Canada too and our Thanksgiving was in October.

As for combining the educational discount with the sales discount, I phoned my local Apple store and its a no go. They wouldn't tell me what the discounts on iMacs are going to be, if any.

I can't believe were two days away and there haven't been any 'leaks'. You'd think by now there'd be something?

Wouldn't you want to generate a buzz for more sales? Does Apple think that it's not worth the investment to give more info so people can start prepping up and/or saving for that? The brick and mortar stores have already released most of their ads for Black Friday.

1. Stores could care less what you pay for taxes. They have to turn around and hand that to the taxing body(state and/or county). Saying that they are just trying to circumvent taxes is ignorant.

2. If you haven't noticed, taxes vary by location and some states don't even have sales tax which would make your "national free tax day" pretty lame in those states.

A deal is a deal. If you were thinking about a new purchase, this may just tip the scales and you have at least some satisfaction at getting a better deal than another day this season.

I agree. I already have AT&T, but I'm really torn about jailbreaking it. For the most part it seems relatively safe to jailbreak for apps, but I'm still worried about bricking it.

Anyway, sucks for Apple though, I might've even been convinced enough to buy both an iPhone and a Macbook Pro if the sales were decent enough and worth the trouble.

sneaky Apple. You're losing valuable monies. I think if they wanted to be clever ike that they would have put 12:41am on the flyer to get a few smiles.

This is bad...

I don't even own an actual mac yet other than a new generation iPod, yet I'm already obsessed about getting a new phone and a Macbook Pro :p

The mac-obsession has fully sunk in me-thinks.

OMG Im going to be really pissed it there are no Touch's on sale. 31 minutes later, and no sign of the Store coming back. Sheesh, they should atleast tell us the sales prior to the sale starting, so we know if it's a waste of our time our not.

Word from NYC is that iPod touch and iPhone are both not on sale this year. I don't know if it's plausible to think that they'd offer anything different online :(

EDIT/ADDED:

My affiliation with a university can get me a MacBook Pro (15-inch 2.2GHz Core 2 Duo) at a $260 discount which is a ton better than the rumors of $100 off =/

so you would be jailbreaking it just to ad apps?

i just dont want to spend $400 and one small thing go wrong and i have a useless 400 item. I also have grown to like t-mobile a lot more than when i had sprint so spending $200 to get out of the t-mobile contract to go to AT&T doesnt seem smart either lol.

the smart thing for Apple to do is to create more media buzz by putting the iPhone and iPod Touch on sale for Black Friday. This will generate enough buzz to start a shopping frenzy.

Yea, overall doesn't seem worth the risk to even bother jailbreaking it I guess. Only thing is that I can't seem to find a report of someone bricking their phone from only jailbreaking. All the people who have had problems so far seem to have gotten it from unlocking the phone to use with other networks.

I guess I'm just trying to find a justification to convince myself it'll be ok :p

As well as more lawsuits :p.

If they go 40 minutes later to counteract last year then 4 minutes, otherwise I think it'll be at 1:01pst.

see but since you already have the provider wait a few months then they are going to open up for more 3rd party applications anyways if i have been hearing the buzz correctly. so then you could add 3rd party things without the worry.

Earlier this year for one of the product intros, they had a really long pause between the end of the press event/keynote and the store coming back. It was really buggy, so they had to take it down again for awhile. Wonder if it's a similar thing, maybe a more complex system like someone said above.

You may want to check to see if the discount applies on top of your corporate/education discount. I almost purchased it since it's a better price than what we get, but I just happened to checked our company website and the amount is subtracted off of our price.
