I rode this for many years. It was replaced by a Honda VF500F and then a Harley XL1200 which I still ride. Can't beat the beemer, though. You pedal pushers really need to join the new millenium!

I've always liked the looks of the VFRs but just can't get on with the riding position. The VTR1000 is the same. It just doesn't feel right for me, too crunched up compared to the ZZRs. Shame as they are great bikes.

I had my first Triumph a BSA and a Norton before Apple had a Mac so it might be the other way around.;) I love my Bonneville. Upright riding is for me. They've come a long way. 850cc's of electric start, no oil leaking, headlight working bliss.:D

I don't know about the US but in Europe the 1098 has already been superseded by the 1198 - supposedly quite a bit superior especially if specced with traction control. I know a couple of guys who bought their dream bike in the 1098 and are pretty upset that Ducati have improved it already, but hey that's progress I suppose. I can't ride one as they're too uncomfortable for my height :(

The 1198 will go on sale here next month. It's pretty much the same bike with a engine size increase of 100cc (from 160hp to 170hp). Now the 1098S is a different story. the 1198S comes with traction control. That is a big upgrade.
I have no plans to use the Ducati on the track, I use a Honda for that, the base 1098 will do fine on the street.

Well being a Brit it's a matter of national pride to have a Triumph obviously ;)

I love the retro styling of the Triumph classics range too and having recently seen On Any Sunday it has only reinforced my desire to look like Steve McQueen.

Yes it has VTEC, but simpler than the car version. It basically switches between an 8 valve and a 16 valve engine. Bit of a gimmick really but makes a nice noise at 7000rpm with a kick up the arse too :D

Sounds like you want a bike with more torque, lower down in the rev range. Most 600s are screamers I'm afraid.

Seriously though, road bikes are getting stupid fast now. You think your current ride is quick, then you go on a rideout with peeps with the latest and greatest bikes that just surge away from you while you think you're nailing it.
Dangerous game, best to find something you can live with and that won't kill you ;)

Here's my "pipe and slipper silver Viffer" Honda VFR800 VTEC ABS:

I want that bike so bad!

I thought so. Harley should sell them looking like that as standard, so much sexier than stock, and you haven't over-done the customising. I mean, I'm into sports bikes but for the first time I fancy a "Hardly Dangerous" :D Does this mean I'm getting old? :p

Got displacement? I am more a Ducati fan, but all good bikes are good in my view. Can't get another one though, as I high-sided myself right off a cliff years ago and there are just too many mentally and physically deficient people driving in cars and trucks.

Would like one for trips from Monterey to San Diego...through Norco.

Hi, everyone! Please post pics of your motorcycles and ATVs, old or new, past or present!

I've loved motorcycles since I can remember. When I was 18, I bought my own first bike. It was a 1975 Suzuki 185cc Enduro, 1 year old with only 500 miles on it. Here is the history

1979 Yamaha 175 Enduro
1981 Yamaha 465 Motocross
1981 Honda 450 Elsinore motocross
1991 Suzuki 350 dual sport
2001 Harley Fat Boy
2007 Harley Scream'n Eagle Ultra Classic Electra Glide

Somewhere between 1991 and 2001 I turned into an old fart and switched from dirt/dual sport to road crusing/touring.

'79 Yamaha

2001 Fat Boy
169359

2007 FLHCTUSE2

I need to go through some of the old shoe boxes of photos to see if I can find any more.

I live in a city of about 30k, and you can get from one end to the other, when there is minimal traffic, in about 15 minutes, so there was no reason to go with something massive. Plus, all the towns where we go to party and swim are within 20 minutes of the city in three directions. Its 200cc and it was 2700 euros.

I would get a 250 or smaller, a dualsport if that's your style. Just because at tiny ranges you're just throwing money out the window if you get anything bigger. A sportbike is NOT fun in slow or stop-n-go traffic, and you'll get tired of that pretty quick. Something with some good low-end and that you can run around in dirt too if you want, would be a lot more practical, cheaper, and more fun.

I am a Honda CR500 fanatic! I moderated on the web's top CR500 site for a few years before a total burnout. Still a great site. I bought my first CR500...man, what a roach! It was super clapped out.

I wanted a project...thus I had it. I spend a lot of time on my steelie....I made it a ONE OF A KIND. All white plastic and a translucent red powder coat on the frame and subframe. This was copied numerous times and pissed me off to no end.

I did built a bike that had a lot of bling. It still got rode like a normal dirt bike. I did buy a brand new 2001 CR500 and kept it stock. She was a beauty and in one of the photo's (both bikes together). I like to ride technical singletrack. Any dumbass can twist the throttle to go fast. Cliffs...bring it...cactus infested lets go...rocks...alright! I dont .... around when it comes to riding. CR500....I'll blast your 450 off the trail...how does that roost taste?

Sadly, it's going away next spring. I need some money, and it needs a home that uses it more than I do. I don't have the time to race anymore, so it should go where it'll be used. I'll cry the day I hand the title and key over though =(

Lol. Good man! Now maybe you should add a Scrambler and a Thruxton to your collection ;)

By the way, you should check out Triumph Rat forums (http://www.triumphrat.net/twin-talk/) if you haven't done so already (which judging by your mods you most probably have done and if I had to hazard a guess I'd say you're NCBonnieGuy).

Dude ... I have nightmares watching a few friends wiping out at the Orillia Honda Ride track back in the day. Heck a similar bike in the early 90's wiped the black off a friend of mine because he got cocky thinking he's experienced enough to ride with shorts. I didn't see it happen, but being black myself he was courages enough to swallow the pride to show me his hip ... I only saw white flesh just before the tendor tissue beneath it just ready to bleed. Yeah he had trouble even walking for days.

2-Stroke is hell after a woman scorned has had her way with it.

Yes, I know first hand how quickly you can go from having a blast to being laid out on the ground wondering what just happened.. I'm sorry to hear about your friend, if something like that were to happen to me I would be scared to ride hard again!

3GS user here, but I'm a rider. OP, I love the naked conversion you did on yours. I just converted my '06 FZ6 to naked last winter (for the fun of it, not because of an off). They didn't sell the naked over here in the States, so us FZ6 owners had to do it ourselves. I chose to go with the Buell XB headlight and windscreen. I wish I'd done it sooner!

As much as I like to make fun of scooters and mopeds, I realize they can be just as dangerous in city traffic here in California as any motorcycle. I actually applaud those guys who ride in full gear on a scooter/moped instead of just a half helmet.

I haven't ridden for over a year, since my '91 ZXR750 was stolen by some c%#t who couldn't ride and wrote it off about 200 yards from my house.

I'll get another bike one day, when I have money and somewhere to securely park it.

Is removing the fairings a simply aesthetic choice? It looks kinda cheap/bad IMHO but to each his own.

I don't take offense to this. For me, it was an aesthetic choice but others have done it because they've had a wreck and it's the cheaper way to get back on the road.

IMO, the FZ6 specifically, looks much better without the half-fairing. I rode the bike for 3 years stock and loved it. But the fairing and windscreen caused a lot of turbulent air to hit my helmet right at chin level. So, I decided to go the route of many other FZ6 owners and remove the fairing...and I couldn't have made a better choice. Now the air flow is smooth and hits me right in the chest (when I'm not tucked in). I don't do a lot of highway miles, though, so the wind isn't my biggest priority. I do A LOT of twisties (both locally and at Deal's Gap), so the extra vision I get from not having the fairing blocking my view is great!

For reference sake...from this:

sold my fz6 last year still got couple dirt bikes and an enduro.

Your bike looks awesome.

Thanks, IDANNY! I'm loving it. I don't know if you were ever a part of FZ6-Forum, but the inspiration was Wavex's bike. The FZ6 is a great bike...I have no idea why Yamaha stopped making it. It's got a very loyal owners group.

Here's my bike around the time I got it next to my Yamaha Raptor. It's a 2003 Yamaha R1.

The R1 is quite different today. It's been rebuilt after a nasty crash. The front end, wheels, swingarm, and mirrors are carbon fiber. This still isn't a fully update-to-date picture. I have a different front fender with fork guards and some other odds and ends on there now.

I used to have a 2003 Kawasaki Z1000. Sold it last year for a 2007 Triumph Daytona. I still miss the zed and the naked style. Kind of wish I had bought a Street Triple instead of the Daytona sometimes though. Also, if you couldn't tell by my sig, I'm a MotoGP fan as well.

Ben Spies is freakin' awesome. I loved that Mancation video Yamaha posted. Colin should go into acting when he retires. He was hilarious.

Thanks, I appreciate it. :) Wouldn't trade it for any of the new models. Although, I wouldn't mind eventually adding a BMW S1000 RR to the garage sometime.

Does it really matter?

Of cause not.
Chill - Its a fairly standard procedure for a Motorcyclist to pay out on scooters. No harm intended.
In fact my winter project next year is probably going to be an old C50/C90 Honda Cub.

He was the first bike after I got off my learners permits, and I still have him, and I'll never sell him.

Nice ride there.

Maybe you can tape your iPhone to the foot peg and see how much gets scraped off.:D
Seriously, since you always keep centrifugal and gravitational forces in balance while you do a turn, the acceleration sensors of the phone don't react to the lean at all.

Y'know, you've already got the analog measuring device on your knees in those photos.
:)

Yes they really do live in the house, much to my wifes amusement.

Of course they're in the house - where else would you keep them?

Yeah, Ben isn't the greatest of actors but Colin is awesome. I had the opportunity to meet them both at the Laguna Seca GP because someone on my Triumph forums was working at the Leo Vince tent they were going to be signing autographs at (She gave me the heads up as to when and where). Well I got lost trying to find the freakin tent and by the time I found it, the line was freaking huge. They left before I even got halfway through.

As I said before so so jealous.

Nice touch by the shop putting the sign on the bike all adds to the experience.

Yeah I liked the "I'm waiting for Mr......" sign. Nice personal touch that. They also cut out the delivery label off of the crate it came in and gave it to me.

The running in period is going to kill me though! 500 miles without exceeding 6k rpm . At 6k rpm it starts to make a delicious noise and at 8k to 12k it all goes a bit mental. Only four hundred miles to go........

A lot of people have some nice bikes on here. I love the CBR's and would ultimately own one of those but I'm not complaining with my gsxr.:p

I actually have a 2001 Kawasaki ZR7s that I'm selling, been riding that for the past 6 months and is the best blend of ride comfort and sport. But of course the "need for speed" got me so I bought a bit more sporty of a bike! 94 Suzuki GSX-R 750, Kinda of surprised that this is the first on here.

I don't have a camera so I got these from the google, here ya go.
