Well, today is my first snow day of the school year which I was really hoping for. I live in Ohio and living in the same county as the capital, its hard to get a snow day. So I thought to myself, does anyone hear on Mac Rumors have any good snow day stories? My day today is going to be filled with talking on the phone to my girlfriend, running on a treadmill, and doing homework I should had done last night. So, lets hear those stories everyone! Hopefully, they're more interesting than mine. :)

I lived in Cincinnati, apparently my high school had a snow day today.

Now I live in upstate New York, and I regularly trudge through more snow to get to class than we got in a year in Ohio. Funny how things work...

EDIT: Holy crap, I just noticed I've been a member for 6 years...O_O

Yeah, todays storm was weird because it went from south to north and not the other way around. BTW congrats for being here for 6 years! :)

Lucky! We're not getting snow up here in RI until later tonight. Though we did get a snow day a couple weeks ago so I guess I can't really complain.

Enjoy.

It had better stick this time, unlike that freaky **** we had over the weekend. Thankfully, living in the same county as the capital doesn't mean squat in RI. :)

Yeah that was weird. Though I would prefer if the temperature got above freezing sometime soon. :D

I just heard where I am that the winter storm warning we have has been extended to 1am so hopefully that means I can get another day off tomorrow. :) Ii just need it to snow some more now. Nothing is flying right now but I looked at the radar and more is on the way. :D

I have a snowday too Evansville, IN (southwestern edge of Indiana). Its kind of strange. My school doesn't have to follow the rest of the school district's rules because of some law allowing public charter schools not to. So they also choose not to follow weather closings either. This is the first one in 6 years. The rest of the schools all have had 2-3 days a year for each of those.

A snow day down here in KY as well. It started coming down hard last night around 6 and they cancelled school that night around 10.

I am hoping for a snow day tomorrow in NH (I am a teacher though!) I have a back injury and I don't want to burn another sick day to rest my back, but I could use one more day off of teaching second graders!! Uggg, my back!

I just noticed I am at my five year mark!!!

My most memorable snow day involved spending all day building an igloo with a couple of friends. It was quite the sight when we were all done with it.

Enjoy the snow days while you can, kids. I never once got a snow day in college, despite a few memorable snowfalls.

I went to college where snow days were unheard of. Not for lack of snow though. Michigan Technological University (http://www.mtu.edu) sits in the upper peninsula of Michigan and gets at least 200 inches of snow a year. They have the equipment they need to move it in a hurry so it's almost unheard of for a blizzard to shut the campus down.

Back in 1996 there was a blizzard that managed to call classes about halfway through the day. As I remember it (it's been a few years and memories do get embellished from time to time) we got 37+ inches of snow within a 24 hour period. What made the snow day most memorable was that someone picked that day to try to rob the bank downtown. It's a small downtown to the bank was within blocks of the police station. To add to the blunders made, the getaway car had a flat tire and the thief took the police chief's wife (who worked at the bank) as a hostage. The day did not end well for the thief, IIRC a sniper ended the standoff.

He could have gotten away with it if he had just used a snowmobile instead of a getaway car, since at the rate the snow was falling his tracks would have vanished almost as fast as he left them.

Heh. I'm at the complete other end of the state. Not so much as a delay. Usually these things go the other way around(y'all get squat and we're snowed in).

But its snowing as we speak(type?) so maybe I'll get lucky tomorrow.

But we have missed a crapload of school this year already. We were supposed to get out the Tuesday after Memorial Day(how's that for faulty scheduling?), now I think we're to the next Wednesday or something like that.

Granted that would be nicer if I could be outside instead of in a windowless building.

My kids have actually had two snow days in the last week, which is quite unusual. And a little disruptive, given that we have to take time off of work.

Why, when I was a kid, we'd have to walk a mile and a half to school in a foot of snow, now they're canceling classes for a lousy 5 inches? Kids today... ;)

Damn you lol.

Here in England, the weather always sucks. It's cold, but it's never cold enough for snow, and in the summer, it's either freezing, or we have a heat wave.

Well, I too was excited that today was a snow day, well ICE day really, because university campuses don't shut down too easy. That was until I got home and had to deal with this...

Our neighbors house is vacant right now (the lady is trying to sell it) so we are allowed to use the lean-to carport. Well, we won't do that again!!! The Dodge Durango help up rather well under pressure. ;)

We got off last Thursday cause it rained a lot, and the bridge on the way to school was underwater.

Today we had a 2 hour delay for the snow.

Weve already used up all our 5 days. So if we miss one more we gotta make it up, lol

Oh yeah and 2 of those days were fog cancellations :D

Well we had school today, but all after school activities were canceled. That means that my senior night (varsity swim team) was postponed and my parents can't make it now. The snow didn't even start till about 5 o'clock.

On top of that it will be raining tonight. I live in a town where the north end (up on a hill) can be freezing and snowing while the south end is just raining. I am sure tomorrow I will have a full day of school and I will have to drive through a few inches in my 230hp sedan without snow tires. Should be fun and suicidal.

Just to give an example of the climate difference, this past Saturday at my house, it snowed twice totaling two inches, and it was just a drizzle down in town. Thats Hamden, CT for you. Does anybody else live in a town like this?

I just left Dayton, Ohio about a week ago with my wife and moved to Wine Country California (Santa Rosa). I was looking at the weather there yesterday and it was like 13F and snow/freezing rain/sleet! Then I stepped outside here and it was sunny and 68F with a nice breeze... I couldn't help but smile!

As for a story, about 10 years ago we had like 3 feet of snow with ice in 2 weeks. In that two weeks I had no school whatsoever. It was great!

I hate that I didn't get a delay today. The capital city which is right next to mine, got the day off. My school district is a hard one to get a snow day out of. :(

I had a snow day today. Only our 2nd of the 07-08 season. We got 3 inches of snow and half an inch of ice. The power didn't go out :), even though many trees came down.

Our school is so strict with snow days. They can only issue 3 a year, or school will extended into summer vacation.

Last year, we used all 3 snow days. 2 of them in a row; when we got 30 inches in less than 24 hours! It was amazing.

I wish we had a snow day, we had snow overnight, not enough to warrant a snow day though, but it rained cats and dogs all day, and then at 1:30 the fire alarms went off and we had to wait outside without coats/umbrellas for 30 minutes while they sorted the thing out. Once they let us back in they had to cancel classes for 20 minutes so kids could find dry clothes. I have never been so wet in my life. And it turned out to be a freshman who hit the alarm pull-station in the gym with a basketball. I am sure people are going to talk to him tomorrow, not. Why did my school have to connect all the buildings on campus, the gym is a good 500-750 feet away from the building that I was in when it went the alarm went off, I would not have been soaked..

I just got 2 snow days in a row, but I just found out that they have subsequently decided to extend our trimester 2 more school days. This means that I have to endure 2 more days of French class, which I now hate. :(
