Considering that BRD is the winner of the format wars, I'm waiting for the next Imac to come with a Blu Ray drive.

Once Apple puts BD in the MP then 4 to 6 months after that you'll get BD in the MBP/iMac lines..

I'm still waiting.... :O( Been waiting for 1 month now...
Blue Ray would be Niiiiice...

C'mon Apple, get your skates on. There's loads of us out here waiting and waiting...

Can someone tell me why doesn't Apple doesn't update processor / hard drive / memory / graphics card as much as pc's to stay in touch with the times?

I mean, I know the usual story, where it doesn't make huge amount of difference to a mac's performance but why do they still keep the same price for older technology when they are not updating for long periods of time?

Anyone also know if I can install Mac OS onto a PC?

I'm a PC pro converting to a mac newbie, so excuse the ignorance please.

Well you can put Blu-ray drives in the Mac now, but there's no Blu-ray disc read software for Mac yet ..

Look here (http://eshop.macsales.com/Search/Search.cfm?Ne=5000&Ntt=Blu-Ray&Ntk=Primary&Ns=P_Price|0&N=6866) and here (http://fastmac.com/slim_bluray.php) 4 your selection on Blu-ray selections.. :o

Youll be waiting a long time. Slot-loading "slim" blu-ray drives come with a $900 sticker price at the moment and the main driving force behind price depreciation was the format war.

I totally agree. The Mac Pros are going to be the one's that first get a BRD. It'll probably be one of the things that will be talked about when the MP is updated again.

And with the MP being updated on a yearly basis, it'll be quite a wait.

The MP (Mac Pro) is the Pros Machine is in fact that's who needs the BD drive first before 'consumer' lines...

The MP line will be first due to authoring discs.

Now that there's only one format, probably in the late fall if prices go down fast enough.

The slot-loading BD-RW drive is still $950.

UPDATE:

I went to Sony's website and they are offering BD drives on their laptops now, here's the config:

DVD±R DL / DVD±RW / DVD-RAM Drive (included)

Blu-ray Disc™ Read Only Drive [add $200.00]

Blu-ray Disc™ Read and Write Drive [add $400.00]

More Info
Optical Drive Information
DVD±R Double layer / DVD±RW Drive
The drive is capable of burning to Rewritable DVD media. There are currently two types of Rewriteable DVD technology: DVD-RW and DVD+RW. This drive supports reading and writing of both of these media types. In addition, this drive supports the DVD±R Double layer standard.

Blu-ray Disc™ Read Only Drive (BD-ROM)
An economical option for those who would only need to read Blu-ray™ media. This drive gives you the same capabilities to read Blu-ray™ movies and data disks minus the option of writing to Blu-ray™ recordable media.

Blu-ray Disc™
Blu-ray Disc™ media drive lets you watch and record high definition video. Blu-ray also offers more than five times the storage capacity of traditional DVDs and can hold up to 25GB on a single-layer disc and 50GB on a dual-layer disc (sold separately). This extra capacity combined with the use of advanced video and audio codecs offers an unprecedented HD experience.

I assume, though, Sony has the market on these drives. It's a matter of time that Apple will get these slimline drives, I assume usually from Pioneer.

Don't be surprised if Apple develops 1080i/p downloadable content before they offer blu-ray support.
