Since "Part 3" is reaching a huge size (1,000+ posts), I figured I would be a nice idea to start a new thread.

Here is my setup:

I got that at the Christmas Tree Shop -- I think they are a Northeast homegoods chain.

I'm guessing the moderator splits the old thread, and moves the last post of it to the new one with a note at the top.

Thought I should add my latest to the thread. Completely re-arranged my setup. Took the old hutch off (which was getting in my way) and just cleaned everything up. My new wireless keyboard is coming on Saturday, so it will look even cleaner than it is now. Enjoy! :)

It's looking very nice. The new keyboard will be perfect. Have you ever considered purchasing a frame for your poster? It's seen better days, and a nice frame with perhaps some matting could revive it nicely. Thanks for sharing your setup. :)

How is the desk arrangement in regards to the chair. I tried having my iMac at an angle but the desk was so restricint chair wish that I was basically sitting with my whole body twisted. Needless to say that didn't last long.

Nice clean setup.

I literally got the new apple wireless keyboard in the post today and at first I thought I had made a mistake as it seemed too small however after a couple of hours I really like the new style keyboard a lot. Although I also have a MB so I should be used to it.

I'd post my own picture but there is too much crap around my desk at the moment.

Yeah it is a gigantic difference. My mom would be on your side; she says it looks kinda bare and plain. But it was honestly getting in the way of the Airport, and the reception was constantly dropping out. Quite annoying when I'm trying to get school work done... ;)

Thanks! I'm definitely going to get a frame; I think the poster is 4 years old. It has been through moving and the painting of this room. I can't think of getting rid of it, I absolutely love the G35 coupe.

So far it's has been a little bit of a struggle to get used to it, but I think with the wireless keyboard it will be much better since I can prop my legs up on the desk and have the keyboard in my lap. I'm really looking forward to getting my keyboard, my mouse came today and so far I'm loving it. The heavier feeling of the BT Mighty Mouse is much nicer than the wired version.

Oh, I understand why you decided to change it. I'd much rather have reception and a restraint on my wireless signal.

As it is at the moment, all furniture from IKEA:
http://www.neilchristie.com/dump/ZZ75D36DBB.jpg

As it was with my old iMac. This photo has over 10,000 views on Flickr for some very odd reason:
http://www.neilchristie.com/dump/ZZ0AD6FCDE.jpg

I still much, much prefer the looks of the old iMac. It's a much more considered design in my opinion and I think that the new one is just change for change's sake.

As you can see I've much improved the room by painting it! The entire length of my tiny bedroom is shown in the first picture.

Two of the new set up. Sexy MBP, 2.4GHz, C2D, with 4GB RAM, and about 2 TB of space. These Yamaha's are also killer.

The others are of the old set up with the old desk too.

Needless to say, the new setup makes it much more conducive to work. With much more ease too.

Read this

I've started splitting long threads (>1000-2000 posts) into "Part 2" threads. At the moment there's no hard/fast rule, but certainly perpetual threads will be split. Meanwhile, news threads that tend to have a self-imposed life span we'll let ride.

The reason is that threads this long may be contributing to database locks / stalls.

Huh? Why, and to whom are you saying that to?

Well since we're not allowed to quite pictures (a rule that clearly had little thought behind it) most will be confused when we ask questions or make remarks. That said, Reason (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reason_(program)) is a software program that someone had open on their screen.

It may make life easier if the mods to figure out a way to lock down this thread so you can only have photos. Photo.net has a "pictures only" thread that works well. You can write a caption but you can't respond to anything without posting a photo of your own.

uumm what are all those boxes?

The base is 4 VCRs that my family was getting rid of, for when I invest in an analog converter; since VCR heads deteriorate, one doesn't rewind, etc. why not have backups?

Also pictuured: Netgear for wireless web, DVD player (cheap but plays AVI etc. of course, wish my friends' did), legacy scanner (I never did make the 8500 and its 4 or less GB external drives work after the 8500 crashed--maybe with the 7100 I got back from Mom someday), phone and answering machine at top, Bose and Epson Stylus 740 at botton, VHS rewinder mounted on wall at side with rabbit ears  resting on them. Cable goes across the ceiling to the TV from the VCR. Defective CD on wall to remind myself to re-record it.

If you put the stand back off the desk and make the feet go under the desk and put the desk as far back as it can go, it pins the LCD stand and makes it sit flat on the desk.

As for the wallpaper (the orange one) I think you're talking about can be found at www.deviantart.com in Customization > Wallpapers > HDTV/Widescreen. You'll have to a little searching.

Those look like awesome speakers. I'm in the market for a good set right now. I ordered some Creature II's when I got my iMac and they were defective, so I sent 'em back to Amazon. My biggest annoyance with those speakers (other than the fact that one of the speakers didn't work) was that they didn't have a power button on the speakers. It was on the sub, so if you wanted to turn 'em off, you'd have to get down in the floor and hit the button on the sub. VERY annoying. It says these have desktop controls for volume, power, etc., but I didn't see 'em in the pics. Do you know if they have a remote or if the controls are on the speakers?

Yeah love me gaming, but rather despise PC gaming... (obvious by the iMac I spose).
Just can't stand the whole; don't know if the game will run correctly, oh noes im using an ATi card instead of nVidia my game wont show textures right etc etc. Being a console gamer I find it far cheaper and easier.

Agreed. it took about 8 months after the release 9f the iMac for iMac clones in candy colored plastic to come out...

First came the iMac.

http://guides.macrumors.com/images/5/54/Imac-1998.gif

eMachines, before being bought out by Gateway, produced the eOne, the iMac's bastard child.

http://lowendmac.com/imac/eoneleft.gif

Then, last year, from the dust of the eOne, the One was introduced. Apparently, the white Core 2 Duo iMac had twins, and they looked like...

http://reviews.digitaltrends.com/images/full_reviews/gateway/one/500/IMG_4351.JPG
http://www.letsgodigital.org/images/artikelen/64/imac-computer.jpg

I think that Apple should sue Gateway for copying the iMac twice, and I should sue Gateway for the eOne and One being so fugly.

I'm guessing your a Logic Studio user?

I'm gonna say it again, but don't put your accoustimass (shut up, i know, i spelled it wrong) on top, put it on the floor, it belongs there, and if possible, put it in a corner.

JackArc, is that desk made of solid wood or is it particleboard/fibreboard? My current desk is made out of medium density fibreboard and it's sagging in the middle. I love that desk and might buy one in the near future but I'm definitely looking for solid wood this time around.

Hey - pretty sure it is solid wood. It is very heavy and very sturdy. No real complaints with the desk whatsoever. Hope that helps :)

Well, how is the speed overall for you? My previous computer was a 2GHz Core Duo Thinkpad, and it's been great so far.

I can't stand the white color, it makes it look less professional IMHO. Black is a little rarer and more suave. What do you think about the whole white/black debate?

Well, doesnt matter, a family computer, mostly my moms, it sits in the kitchen, but i dont care:p, ive got my own powerhorse in my room for my video work, and my little photo, and music work. Its not insanely powerful, but i would say its the second most powerful in the mac lineup :P (MP first). I wanna see what they'll pull out on tueday.

As for the white/black, i would say black, and plus black matches the imac, but the white macbook as the nice smell!! the white looks like a toy, but is pretty, but then wait, and you'll want a blackbook, problem is the grease stuff.

Are both the monitors hooked up with your MBP? (Nice feature with that extra little box you can buy) Dual monitors (23+inch per monitor) is pretty sweet on a MBP.

Oh man, when I had my mini I had this beastly cable-hiding scheme. Everything was lumped behind it so when you walked in the room, it looked repulsive, but when you sat down, it was wire-free Nirvana. The only wire was that of my keyboard. (visible, anyway.)

How do you think he has his MBP connected to both monitors when it's obvious from the photos that there are no cables connected to the MBP?! Loving mine so far, it boots from pressing the power button to fully functioning desktop with Airport connected and everything loaded in nineteen or twenty seconds- faster than a new Mac Pro. I may get another gig or three of RAM for it, seeing as it only has one now. Will it help me at all? I once ran with 1.5GB on a dual 800MHz Power Mac G4 under Leopard and it was buttery smooth. So, with the fast processor of the MacBook, even if I only do light Photoshop and Audacity stuff, will 2GB or 4GB of RAM be a good thing to get??

Well, everyone, I will post my setup on Tuesday evening. A black MacBook sitting on a shag rug isn't really much to look at. I can't wait to set it up once I get to my dad's house!

I wasn't offended in the slightest. But, judging by the question, it seems readily apparent, to me at least, that the person didn't understand. And, instead of just simply answering with a real answer, you made a bunch of silly remarks. It wasn't me who might have been offended. But the person you were mocking, maybe.

Also, note that no one made any silly comments when you called it an "IBM tower" in your reply. Since when does IBM make towers anymore? And, when did they start making them with LED lights all over, and huge lighted fans? See, we could have just as easily done the same, and poked fun at you. But we didn't, because it is rude.

The monitor definitely stays. I really dislike LCD's, plus I don't have the money for a new one.

The keyboard has been swapped out (With an older beige colored one, but at least this one works.) And I have a new mouse on order.

I'm glad you said it, because I was definitely thinking it. :)

Saikou, very nice. Is that one of those giant mousepads under your laptop?

Thanks man! I wish it was one of those giant mousepads, I've thought of ordering one before. It's just a normal table mat thing. I learned the hard way that I really don't like glass desks, they're too cold. I can't stand resting my hands on them, so I bought one of those black table mat things for desks. It makes it somewhat bearable.

Why do you dislike LCD, I wonder? They take too little space, the image is too crisp, they are too good for your eyes and they look too good? Hmm...

Oh, I did too. I'll give you a hint: It's a *nix project.

Oh I get it, I had the same project going. Just bought a Mini for surf/music. My Thinkpad is for work.

haha that is quite a nice collection of things, my rents would say that i should get rid of it cauz its just a bunch of crap... parents these days *seesh*.

those epson's are very very good quality printers, i had a 760 (which is actually a 740??), until it died :( very emotional time for me. got replaced by this massive HP thing...

like your colourful router, i just have the plain 3 white lights on my airport lol

It's the weekend again, I'm back. I don't blame you if you miss this reply so many pages later, but what the why not? Hope I catch any further ones.

My Inner Child's parent sez I should lighten up stuff too. I forgot to mention the dual audio deck, for which I just discovered neither side works (took it apart, didn't see any problems, each has its own motor but I saw a chip or board labeled as a controller for each. Good thing I have a fallback for digitizing my tapes (record player was off to the side, near the wall-mounted rewinder).

Just discovered after ordering ink that only the colour nozzles work--read since that Epson print heads jam. Since I don't expect my Umax scanner to work in OS X or classic or wanting to bother with the 8500 or 7100, guess I'll get a nice HP all in one.

My setup when I'm home from Uni.

The second picture shows what the 2 cords are coming from in the first picture. I haven't gotten around to puttin 'em it the wall yet.

Lovely blackbook! Might I have a link to the wallpaper for usage on mine?

Because the colors are better and they don't lose clarity at different resolutions. I can't wait for my 19" ViewSonic to replace my POS 17" Sceptre LCD!

Cassie, is that a Sony monitor you're using?

it sounds to me like you really do have too much stuff :p. dual sided audio deck... hahaha well if you ever need the motor r something i spose it will come in handy. im kinda like that, i have a whole bunch of crap that "could be needed one day". best way to be prepared!!!

HP is getting pretty good these days, good balance of quality~price. i have the 2510 All-In-One thing (i think). works a treat wirelessly through my airport.

anyways, catchya round (next week maybe haha?)

How did you get that working as a home phone? We have various Cisco IP phones at work, but they've spent thousands and thousands of dollars on VoIP infrastructure equipment

I have a load of them running here too (1 7970 and 2 7960"s and i did have an old 7940 but it fell off the wall and broke), throw that $10000 CallManager Server away and get an Intertex IX68 router for £150, plug the phones in and they work. Plus you can use other Voip providers too, although i'm only using them on a standard line at the moment.

Jessica, is the MBP stand the one you just got (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=433341)? I like it!Yeah it sure is.

That looks like a PowerBook to me! (Rubber antennas on the sides of the display...)

That looks like a 30"...explain!

The last PB's could push those, but I may be wrong and it may be a MBP.

Whatever it is, it looks great.

EDIT: Yep, its definitely a PB, its got the old power adapter.

Represent Jess!Yeah it's a Rev D (?) PB. It's the revision prior to them increasing the memory speed or whatever they did. It's the same video card they used in the last revision though, the ATI Mobility Radeon 9700.

Yeah, that's a powerbook. Is it powering your display or do you have a mac pro or mac mini hidden below the desk?It is powering the 30" ACD.

If you look at the second picture with the side view you can see that the PowerBook is powering the display.

Pretty impressive, how snappy is it? Do you notice much slowdown?
No I've never had any issues. But I don't game on this machine. I watch movies, use photoshop, aperture, etc. But I don't think I'd notice any issues unless I tried to game. Maybe I'm wrong.
