MacBook Air (More Memory In Couple Months?)

I read an article which stated the memory ability of the macbook air will be expanding? Although I was a little confused by the entire article, I was curious BECAUSE I plan on buying a Macbook Air soon (2 weeks).

I can't afford the 64GB option...should I wait OR buy the current on ($1799) because the memory on the next gens won't be that much greater (considering the costs)

link?? The 2GB that the MBA has is good enough for 99% of users. Cant see Apple adding more anytime soon! I would say its safe to buy now!! I would say that the second edition would have a bigger CPU and cheaper SSD HD but I think it would not be anytime soon!!! The air is a "snappy machine"

I'm sure it'll come sometime in the future. Just research upgrades patterns Apple has done on their other model lineup of the MB and MBP. Even though it has been slight Ram upgrades it was never 4Gigs worth. My MBP came with 512 standard and 2GB is the standard now. However, that took 2 years to do.

BTW - the ram is soldered.. So upgrades to ram are not possible.
If you're looking for a ball-out fast laptop to do everything (video editing, etc.. this is not the one.. give it a year or two to be on par with MBP) This is strictly my opinion. We are as early noticing that under loads of pressure on the MBA, the air tends to get heated (Fans @6200 RPM), some video viewing get's choppy, etc.

I've never used a Mac with this much RAM before. My old Macbook Pro had 1.5 GB and it was really fast.

Now keep in mind I did not do too much heavy lifting except for the occasional print design in Photoshop, but it was more than fine.

You should be fine with 2GB, not forever, but at least for the next 2-3 years.

4GB is sweet, I'd personally want abotu 10GB, that would be heaven to use.. but seriously, on an average user, 2GB is more then enough.

Do you mean RAM or hard disk size (since you reference 64GB)? Most people are answering regarding RAM which I agree is likely to stay at 2GB for a while (although a lot of PC laptops are going to 3GB). There are a lot of articles about SSD hard disks increasing in size soon. I believe Samsung has released or shown a 128GB SSD drive and Intel is moving quickly into that space. I believe (without any hard info) that a 128GB SSD will be in the machine by summer and/or the price of the 64GB will fall by 50% by end of year.

HDD wise I think we are stuck at 80GB. It seems like more size means a thicker drive which Apple seems determined not to do because they are set on thinness at all cost. I thought I remembered an article regarding more density on a single platter but the current larger drives add space by adding another platter. It seems like Apple will follow their iPod/iPhone strategy. They will let their HDD's max at about current levels and head to flash.

I hope that you are right.

When that happens I just won't be able to resist buying one (I'm struggling not to at the moment!).
