I am considering buying an 8GB iTouch in the very near future (read: within a few days), although I am wondering if we will be seeing the release of a second generation iTouch any time in the future, similar to the 3G iPhone. I know there hasn't been any official announcement yet, but do any of you think one will be coming out?

I can see a possible price-drop on Monday, at WWDC, nothing more.
iPod are refreshed in September, usually. Then again ... iPod touch isn't really an iPod anymore, is it?

My guess is that a new ipod touch doesn't come out until after the back to school promotion ends. That's in mid september. But that's just a guess.

WAIT! the new firmwares might be available after monday on the iPod touch, but i still have a feeling that a new version of the touch is coming along with the 3g iphone, it may be they included volume buttons or something, just hold on for 2 days.

I agree with the post that suggested that with the new iPhone form factor, a new iPod Touch does make sense. Although, I would not expect Apple to produce one at the roll-out of the new iPhone. Just a theory.

I'm in the same boat. I really have no interest in the iphone but since the platform is so similar, I'm going to hold out on touch purchase for a bit. It certainly can't hurt and I've waited this long....

I too am wondering if the Touch will get updated during WWDC..i have a friend that is offering to sell me his NIB 8gb for 200 flat...should i get it next week if nothing happens?
i really wish the touch got a camera put in...that would come in handy.

are you asking if $200 is a good deal on a $300 device. isn't the answer obvious.

Especially when some of us are still stuck paying $370 for it.

So with the new generation, will the prices go up? I have my money all plotted out to buy it, I don't need a $100 price jump.
