With the continued expansion of Apple retail stores in the rest of the UK, isn't it about time the emerald isle had its own Apple retail store?

Whilst I'm surprised we don't have one at least in Dublin, it just seems Apple do not consider the emerald isle to be worthy of one.

To be honest it's a frickin pain too. I'm in the styx of Kerry and if something goes wrong with my macs - I have to arrange courier and send them to dublin usually at my own expense, simply because there are a serious lack of repair agents outside of n1 circle.

Just ironic that we home Apples european HQ, just not a simple store.

So much for the luck of the irish eh! (let's just blame biffo and leave it at that)

I know!! its so frustrating! My Macbook needed repair and instead of taking it to the Apple approved repair centre (the guys who destroyed my iBook a few years ago) I took it to the Glasgow Apple store (which is awesome by the way). The service was amazing.

Note, Belfast is getting one Apple Store this autumn. The first of several in Ireland I hope.

Northern Ireland is still part of Ireland, maybe not in the traditional sense but we are one island, two nations so we can share one store :)

Besides its one trip on the Enterprise!

I had heard that but I thought it was just a silly rumour. Belfast is far too backward for something so swish.:D

apples european HQ is in cork.

if belfast is getting an apple store them i imagine dublin will soon.

tbh for a company like apple the reason there hasnt been one yet is probably location. all their stores are in great locations and also look great, theyre not gonna settle for a second rate location in dublin or anywhere else.

but *IS* Belfast getting a store? There's no mention of it anywhere except for a few rumors.

apples european HQ is in cork.

:eek: I was in Cork a week ago, flew over from old muckymuck to do some theatre support. Nice food in the hippy cafe by the river.

Spent a couple of days in Kinsale, searching for veggie food (none).

If I'd known about the Apple HQ, I would have persuaded partner + sprog to go there instead. Maybe I'd find a nice cast-off macbook in the bins or something.

Now you've reminded me - when I ordered some new ibooks for work, I think I saw the online tracking go from China to Cork to London. Or did I just make that up?

I expect an Apple Store will show up, in the next two years, in one of Dublin's upcoming new retail developments on the Northside. Either at Arnott's Northern Quarter on Henry Street or at the new part on O'Connell Street where the old cinema is, which John Lewis (another Apple seller) will open its first Irish store there.

Apple may open a smaller store, before the one in the city centre opens, either at Dundrum Town Centre (quite likely) or Blanchardstown.

I was under the impression there was some sort of production centre in Cork, hence the story about the man claiming he could walk to it before Apple could fix his iMac.
They sent him a brand new one, by the way.

I am still surprised that Apple have not opened an Apple store in Dublin or Cork. Nice to see Belfast get one though, just that Apple would make more money with a store in Dublin.

Strange how Apple's European Operations Headquarters is in Cork, yet we do not have an Apple store, or Movie downloads!

I'd think Apple would open a few more in larger European population centers first. Frankly, I'm surprised there's even a rumor that there's going to be one in Belfast.

And somewhere where they're likely to sell some Macs.

Considering the grief I got from my PC using friends and relatives when I was back in Ireland during the summer, Apple is missing the mindshare that's present here in the US.

Yeah it really is madness that there isn't a store in Dublin, as well as many of the other metropolitan areas of Europe.

An Apple store in Dublin would do very well, its becoming more fashionable to use Macs in Dublin a stroll through any of the university libraries can show that. Actually all new students to the Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland in Dublin recieve a macbook as part of their tuition fees.

I'm betting they move into the old Habitat store between Suffolk and Dame Streets.

Interesting fact - towards the north of Kildare Street, there's an OLD Apple Store, with the old rainbow-coloured logo. Completely run-down, but they might still own the site... :D

The old Apple store with the rainbow colours wasn't an official store. It was owned by Compustore who went bust a few yrs ago. I doubt they wud open it there. I was in it once years ago and boy is it tiny. It was pretty much just a counter.

The last post in here was in December so have there been any updates on a store in Dublin since then?

Not that I live there anymore, but Cardiff should get one as well.

It's a decent city, very modern, and with a decent population - with a lot of Mac users.

You know, it might not be that Apple's unwilling to open stores/iTMS in Ireland, but there are certain laws or requirements set by the Irish government that don't agree with Apple's policies. It's a subjective argument which one should yield if that's indeed the case.

Surely the HQ is only there for tax purposes. Next thing you know they'll move to Gibraltar!

Yes... us do have iTunes store and have had one for a long time.

Sad that they may be moving to the UK, Cork really doesn't need that many job losses at a time in like this.....

I'm so sad that there is no Apple store in Ireland. I had to get my MacBook in PC World, how ironic is that! I'm actually going to New York. The 5th avenue Apple Store is actually the main reason I convinced my mum to bring me, going in December 2009, can't wait!lol

Apple are planning a retail store in Dublin. It won't be here for at least 2 years!! Not in Dundrum or Blanchardstown either. Rumoured to be in the old Dunnes on Grafton St!!

There are 3 Apple Shop's open in Ireland now. 2 in Dublin, PC World Liffey Valley and PC World Airside and 1 in PC World in Cork. All owned by Apple with Apple employees working in them. They are proper Apple Shop's with Tables and consultation Bars!!

It's a good sign that Apple do want to break into the Irish Market!!

Apple are defo not moving out of Cork. It's where the AppleCare headquarters are based and where they make the high end Mac's. Hanover St and Stockley Park are the 2 HQ's in the UK!! There are more campus' around Europe too but no plans to close any, especially not Cork which has prob the most staff and departments in Europe.

Well, that is simple - Money! If you live in Ireland as I do you know Ireland makes things very difficult to do business. Look at Dell! Ireland is TOO expensive to hold a major business. This country thinks they have a corner on the market and have something so special being in Ireland. Ireland is shooting themselves in the foot by making business so difficult. Ireland will never have an Apple store in Dublin, Cork or anywhere until they make some changes.
You can sign the online petition but it will still do no good. Apple knows it is not good business to deal here and will stay away. There are too many good countries willing to welcome Apple with open arms. Irish - continue taking your Apple business to the north, its your only option for the foreseeable future!

To be honest, I don't think that's the problem... Apple already operates in Ireland in Cork, so I don't think it's that they think Ireland is too expensive from an operating point of view. They just haven't opened any retail units here, and that could be to do with rent rates, etc.

What seems strange to me is that Apple don't have any TV ads here. I see them all the time on UK channels, for the iPods especially, but only O2's iPhone ads are actually on IE channels. It's almost as if Apple isn't trying to increase it's marketshare in Ireland!

Or alternatively call into us An Apple Shop in Shop within PC World, owned by Apple and we are employed by Apple!! Why go to the north when you can get the same service and products in 1 of these stores?

I have a workshop tonight for 20 people on iMovie. Where else in Ireland can you get this service?

APPLE SHOP!!!
