when i switch my 2.4ghz macbook on or wake it from sleep the cd drive sounds like its trying to eject a disk. also when im loading a cd i have to oush the cd pretty much all the way in before the motor takes over. ive literally had the macbook for 2 weeks and its been happening straight out of the box.
is this normal or a fault?
thanks!!

Yep- it's totally normal. It's the sound of the drive waking up. Mine does it too. I think it's kind of cool.

a third vote for sounding normal.
the optical drive looks for a disc and makes a noise every time you turn it on or wake from sleep unless you already have a disc inserted. look at the support doc from Apple explaining this here (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1723?viewlocale=en_US). but if your MacBook doesnt sound like this id take it to an Apple Store to get looked at.
also with my MBP core duo i have to insert a disc until about 1.5cm (0.6") of the disc is left showing until it is accepted.

This is probably a belated response, but yeah, absolutely normal. The MBP does it too, but it's even louder :D

Checks to see if there is a disk; and mine you have push the disk about 1/2 way in for it pull it.
