iMac + External monitor

Hi,
I've had a bit of a search, but couldnt find exactly what I was looking for..
Anyway, I was thinking about getting a 3.06 iMac to replace my first gen macbook. At the moment it currently runs a 24" dell screen which i'm hugely happy with. I'm just wondering does the iMacs graphics card (probably the 8800 or whatever) hold up well with an external display? As my current macbook is struggling somewhat.
I use indesign, photoshop etc and no 3d work which is why I've decided against the Mac Pro.

You're doing the exact same thing as me pretty much.

I replaced my first gen macbook with the new 3.06 imac and am running a dell 2407ws monitor. It runs perfectly fine. The only thing is you will need to play around a bit with the color/brightness adjustments for your dell monitor to match the imac display.

By default the dell displays colors more warmly than the iMac.

Anyway I am really enjoying my setup. Hope this helps!

I run a C2D iMac on a 23 inch ACD - and I like it. The only tip I'd offer is to get a screen with the same DPI (or whatever term you like), as the iMac.
