When I read a case in law school about a rich man who was attacked outside of such a penthouse and almost mutilated, the idea of such a home fell from my list of "wants" or "needs", at least in NYC or the windy city. What is ironic is that great penthouses in those two cities border, or are directly in, terrible war zone neighborhoods.

I probably want to get through school, which is a condition I have with my State budget department, to get me a grant so I can start my own business with their required grant money for small business. Basically govt. stuff and rules and regs.

Other than that, I am happy to live in a safe place with safe water. I certainly don't ask for much in these recession times. I do plan to visit NYC and Chicago at least once in my life. I think CNN and Fox give extraordinarily bad and heinous new about those cities, and a few others, for ratings. The statistical abstract of the United States, however, does not show any positive trends towards a measurable reduction in crime in those two major U.S. cities.

The said person was cut into 1" inch squares in front of many witnesses, but it's a landmark case as are other bizzare NY cases such as re: Winship, State of New York, United States of America. But that can start another thread of at least 1,000 posts and I don't dare put that one up. But Google it...you will be shocked beyond belief.

But as per your comment, I know that. In most small towns, it will never happen. But there are medium sized cities like Oakland and Phoenix that have gruesome stories that match anything we have seen in Detroit, Chicago, and New York. Per captia some cities like Detroit and Washington DC have been more dangerous than NYC in some crimes on some years.

The trend towards events like the World Trade Center bombings and the Son of Sam do happen in more highly populated areas, but Oklahoma City is an example that type of bizzare crime, of such a heinous variety, that can hit a "non-major" US city.

It is nice to know that there are no less than 60,000 beat officers in NYC and surrounding burroughs. :)

have you seen the new gt500 race? They are slow as hell on the track, a slightly modded GT can beat them easily! I am around fast cars all the time, go to the strip a lot too, and the GT 500 was a definate dissapointment for me!

I've held the firewire in my hands at the same time as the aviso and there is no comparison when it comes to weight. New facility with the latest technology and awesome faculty that actually cares and treats the students as professionals. I shadowed two dentists from U of Maryland, a pediatric and orthodontist, who were both at the top of their class (which is obvious from their choice of specialty). But both are well known in the county (Sarasota, FL) for their respect to everything including their assistants, how well they treat their patients and the quality of their work.

sounds like someone needs a roof rack for their boards! Have you ridden a firewire??? I myself want an aviso, they are super light. I've held the firewire in my hands at the same time as the aviso and there is no comparison when it comes to weight. I don't surf enough to spend a grand on a board though but I would like one some day! Right now I'll just live with my 6'3 thruster made by some guy in California!

I have indeed ridden a Firewire and all I have to say is: Totally. Freaking. Awesome. The amount of speed and stability, particularly through sweeping bottom turns, is just immense. Take-offs take a bit of getting used to on such as fast board; I found myself missing some epic waves thanks the board whipping from under my feet. Other than that, I can highly recommend any Firewire board as long as you get a Firewire logo (as in, cable) vinyl on the bottom of the board. :D

Well I did say unless there was a use for it! And a few will, but a small minority. I just dislike the whole off road vehicle for general use culture (yes I just made that up!), when the biggest obstacle they might come across is a cat's eye in the middle of the road. :o

I agree wholeheartedly and would never consider any 4x4 for city-living, purely from the I'm-a-poor-student-that-already-struggles-to-pay-for-refuelling-a-Mini perspective. However, with my plans to move down to Cornwall next year, I figure I can afford to take advantage of rural fuel economy and have enough room to cart all my photo/surf gear along with people around.

I almost bought it at my school for $499. I opted for the CS3 Design Premium for $299 instead. I felt it was a better choice since I won't use anything besides those that came with what I got. I'm not sure why my school has these for less, but I'm not complaining!
Lucky, my school had it for the same price... But they raised the price, something about limited supply? Hopefully CS4 will bring it back down to the old price...
