Basically, is it possible to switch this off and only have daily or weekly backup done ?

I really don't need a back-up making every hour and it's starting to really irritate me when the capsule spins up (currently in the lounge next to TV due to cable restrictions).

Thanks...

You can remove the icon from the menu bar. From prefs.

Can you do a manual back up with TIme Capsule? If you can, then thats what I'm doing!

hahahaha of course you can!!!

my method goes like this:
1. open system prefs, go to time machine and turn OFF time machine.
2. while still in the system prefs hit the button "Show Time machine Status in the menu bar".
3. go up to the menu bar, find time machine and go "Back Up Now".

thats it!! your done!!

if you dont want time machine in the menu bar, you can get rid of it by unticking it in the system prefs, then open up a finder window, right click on your MacHD on the left hand side menu bar thing and go "Back up". (this option seems to have dissapeared on my computer i hope its there on yours!)
