I find that unless I'm writing something very long, I still use AppleWorks as my text editor of choice. Anyone else still loving on this old piece of software?

Absolutely. I despair of it's loss. Opened everything, great database and easy to use spreadsheet. Best feature, the drawing/painting function. No, iWorks and Bento doesn't come close.

Well made software, I just think its a pain to always have to export to Word format instead of saving as such every time.

I never used Appleworks as a text editor, I'd always go into drawing mode and make a nice looking page then stick a text block in the center…heh.
I used the painting and drawing tools a lot, I find now that Pages has made drawing tools redundant, and these days pixel graphics (from the painting mode) just aren't in.
I remember making custom artwork for Glider PRO, and designs for websites, and Mac icon designs, but now that computers can handle photographic icons it makes drawing them pixel by pixel impossible.

Nope...I had it on my hard drive for a while....to use as a spreadsheet app. But with Numbers I no longer needed it(although I have it somewhere I think)...and even when it was on it I started using Google Spreadsheet.
A good app though!

I don't personally, but a professor in our department still does. He uses it to make notes for his Advanced Atmospheric Dynamics course. He loves drawing diagrams in the program.

i always use it for anything drawing based. document-wise not so much, i use Word (even though it takes longer to open!).
appleworks is amazing, i still use it constantly.

Yes, I still have it and use it.
I use it for adding quick drawings or colored text to documents. Or when I just need to do a simple letter or page. Were I know compatibility, wont be a issue.
I do have iWork 08, but I have been using apple works for years. That I know all the ins and outs. Yes it does suck that Apple decided not to include any form of drawing or paint with iWork:(

Its better than Office 2008 is, so I should probably look into going back to it. I hate Word 08, and Excel for that matter. I know I'm maybe off topic, but I hate that software. It sucks.
Appleworks still gets the job done. And it has a pretty handy image editor.

I use OpenOffice.org frequently because I use the ODT file format, but I really like using AppleWorks for text. This software is very fast and easy to use, which is so uncommon nowadays with basic applications gobbling huge amounts of system resources.

I've not got much choice but to use it on my iMac G4. Well there is Office 2001...But no. I quite like the convenience of it.

i agree with this!! appleworks, even tho it runs via rosetta, is a very stable and economic piece of software, i am starting to use TextEdit instead of Word, basically because it doesnt use anywhere near the amount of resources as Word...

The last time I used AppleWorks was last year on a PC. I enjoyed using it; simple layout and easy to use. I remember using the painting and drawing tools, and the word processor.

well to be fair, that is the time it takes to get to the panel screen in appleworks. it then takes less than a second to get a document screen up and running
after i opened it up once and do it again, it opens even faster
when doing the same with word 08 (opening after i had opened it before), it takes just over 3 seconds to have a typable screen
my mb is quite a bit slower but owell lol

oh wow really?? i was timing how long it takes to stop bouncing! once i quit it and try to open again it comes up in 2 bounces, the menu bar still takes the same time (around 5 seconds) to come up no matter what.
word 08 is pathetically slow... not even going to get into it :p

My mother still uses AW exclusively... She finds that a program used since the early 90s better fits her needs.

I just upgraded a friend's 7200 (running 8.6) up to a sawtooth G4 running 10.4.11. He still uses ClarisWorks v4.0 for his invoicing.
I wrote an AppleScript to copy and paste the old files to Excel Mac:2004, while he can still open CW in classic mode.

I had it on my old iBook G4. I actually liked it for simple documents.

I'm not sure of the exact dates that it was available, but we definitely had it on the Windows PCs at school in 1998/99. I'm pretty sure I saw an ad for it in more like 1995/96 though.

the final (or close to it) "Educational Version" disc had both the Apple and Windows versions on it. if you bought the retail version at the time, there was no windows version included.
mine says Appleworks 6, Educational Version, Version 6.2.4, and is dated 2002.
works great, use both versions, haven't tried under vista, but runs great on everything else windows. only downside is that the software is getting tough to find nowdays!

I think 6.2.9 was the last version. its the version that I have, and I haven't been able to find any newer.
ClarisWorks and Hypercard were two programs our "technology" class in 3rd grade made us all learn. I don't think I ever used Hypercard ever after that, but I still have vivid memories of it (and I might add, the iPhone SDK reminds me heavily of it). btw, that was about 15 years ago.
