I hope the 2.2 firmware does come out tommorrow. But how much will it cost for ipod touch owners? iTunes 8.0.2 is also out for PC users

I've been hoping for a snappy version of iTunes for quite some time. This is not it, but I've been wondering if Apple is going to clean up and speed up their bundled apps when Snow Leopard comes along. My iTunes practically needs a splash screen!

As I know several people who use the VoiceOver feature on their Macs, I think it is sweet that Apple is improving functionality for this in iTunes.

Can anyone check to see if scroll-wheel volume adjustment in the MiniPlayer is active when the mouse is over any part of the player? iTunes 8.0 changed the behavior so that the it was just active over the volume slider... I'm waiting for them to change it back before upgrading. Thanks!

What issue are they talking about with creating MP3's on some computers?
I've never had a problem making MP3's on any of my computers. Are they now telling me that they would sound better if I had waited until this update to make my MP3's?
I hadn't had any complaints about the sound before. So, I'm not sure what they mean by quality issues.

Me too. iTunes is a pig. I have a large library (about 600 gigs), and the damn thing performs about as well as an old Ford Pinto.

What are the updates to Safari? Just bug fixes or are there some UI changes?
So far, all we have heard is that they are moving the search bar... Do simple UI change, and I am sure bug fixes galore as mobile safari is way buggy still.

Considering it still has to cater to PPC Macs and Intel Macs, it's essentially doubling the code base AFAIK. This is where Snow Leopard will make the largest impact.

Now really, just what are you so excited about? 2.2 dosen't really seem that impressive, from what we've read to date. An update to Google Maps? Adding the search bar to the safari browser?
I mean cmon, an update is nice, but nothing here to get too excited about.
Honestly, I'm excited about wireless podcast updates. I've been wanting that since I got the iPod Touch. ( I hate having to pull out my MacBook Pro to simply update a podcast while at work.)

It works if you have it over the volume section. Feel free to update!

They're not going to stop updating iTunes for PPC just because Snow Leopard comes out and is Intel-only (assuming it actually is). Anyway, only the actual code has to be duplicated, which doesn't double the size, because all the other resources apply to both.

Something that is included in every iTunes update is an updated AppleMobileDeviceSupport. If you are technically savvy enough, you may be able to find any relevant differences between the old package and the new one.
Old: http://swcdn.apple.com/content/downloads/27/54/061-5650/Hbk3xVT72JNydq45vrgF669p43QSmCz4nj/AppleMobileDeviceSupport.tar
New: http://swcdn.apple.com/content/downloads/27/41/061-5811/LCdg4sfVVNx32SGPWn4mYMWMQ3x6s7KCKx/AppleMobileDeviceSupport.tar
I also view this as lending some credence to the rumor of 2.2 (or 2.1.1) tomorrow. Perhaps MobileSafari will crash less?

Its an iTunes update.. I don't see why every other post has to have over excited update monkeys getting wet & dribbly about an iPhone update.. 2.2 at that.. Zzz.. It's not like 2.1 was anything amazing over 2.0.2. So why should 2.2 be anyting so impressive over 2.1?
Anyway, back to iTunes.. Runs good. but then I didn't have any issues beforehand either.

I just confirmed that this iTunes update fixes the problem in previous versions of 8.0.x with displaying Nike+ information for those of us who track more than one shoe sensor. Previously, the tables that display the sensor statistics would become corrupted when switching from one sensor to another.
That bug was driving me NUTS (I track six different sensors), and so this fix makes me a very happy Nike+ user again.

Tanj in torment... so what is it that Requiem does, exactly, that iTunes doesn't seem to like?
Just had a thought: So you have a Requiem-ed audio file. Can you open it in Quicktime, save it (it'll tell you to do so as a movie), and then change the extension to .aac so it plays as music, and put it back into iTunes? Will that be enough of an authorization for iTunes to allow the music again?

It's always a nice surprise to find something work better you never expected. On my old 867 MHz PB .mp4 files would skip when played with the last iTunes, just enough to make it annoying, but you could still watch. Now, I can't find any .mp4 file that skips, all play smoothly. Considering the age of my PB, I never thought this would be remediated. Hopefully it continues like this, my CPU is at 100% even with this, so it's just barely squeaking by.
Edit: Wow, I take my cheers back. I just had my fourth kernel panic since buying my PB new, right at about the time I clicked "Submit" for this comment. Hopefully this doesn't keep up.

Apparently this is hit and miss. On the apple forums many are seeing, but it still seems overall to be a small population. I am pissed as I want the new update for Guitar Rock Tour. Guess I can try the delete and redownload trick.
Oh, and it is not 2.2 as my iPhone on 2.1 is doing this. Updating to 2.2 now.

I suppose I should've outlined what I've done to try to fix this. I have repaired permissions (first thing I did, but thanks for the suggestion), deleted the library in hopes that iTunes would rebuild (but no) and finally re-installed iTunes. Nothing works.
But I can say that I'm not the only one who's having this problem. There's a thread on the Apple support discussions that's all about this.
ARGH..
Guess I need to some reading to see if anyone's figured out how to fix this nonsense.

The guys at HydrogenAudio found a bug in the MP3 encoder in iTunes on any multi-core computer, causing the bitrate to be much lower (and thus lower quality) than encoding on single-core computers.
