View Full Version : Noise Violators forced to listen to... Barry Manilow!

Fort Lupton Municipal Judge Paul Sacco says his novel punishment of forcing noise violators to listen to music they don't like for one hour has cut down on the number of repeat offenders in this northwestern Colorado prairie town.

Video of a recent class showed teenagers with long faces shifting in their seats or looking up at the ceiling.

"You can't fall asleep," said teenager Rueben Fuentes right before letting out a bit of a sigh.

I can't imagine a more horrible, yet suiting punishment!

I read this in the newspaper today - brilliant! Make the punishment fit the crime has always been my opinion.

Indeed, such a perfect punishment.

I thought that the US Supreme Court had ruled cruel and unusual punishment unconstitutional?

"I choose waterboarding. Give me waterboarding instead!!!!"

1 hour is far too short. They should make it 8 hours. That would really show them.

Barry totally falls under cruel and unusual.

I like it though, I really like it.

"That's right you damn hippies, you better turn down that music unless you want a visit from the Manilow!"

I seriously like this.

There is much worse than Barry. How about Ashley Simpson for 8 hours straight.

Awesome, although I doubt I'd be able to last 8 hours without feeling completely.....drained.

The only person who would do that is Barry Manilow. You'd just throw him in jail.

I heard an interview on BBC radio last night with this judge. He said they make it make it even worse to listen to as they play the music back on an old boombox which sounds awful. He said the recidivism rate is about 4%. :D

True punishment would be playing Usher or Kayne West continuously. But some of the teens may actually enjoy that...

Anyway, I love it when the punishment actually fits the crime.

Weekend in New England and Even Now are really great songs... and they connect with my earlier life. I don't love him, I don't hate him... and with all the discussion on how music is a personal thing you'd think some would be more tolerant.
Nope, I was wrong.

They should put the chorus to "Pocketful of Sunshine" on repeat. I hear that song every-frickin-where I go. TV commercials, at work, radio commercials, and sometimes it'll just pounce into my head and it'll stick there. If I hear it one more time, I'm going to kill someone.

Listened to a preview of the stuff on iTunes. Honestly, it could have been much worse.

Crazy (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=130341) frog (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=128123), for example (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XkHm8uUuT0o). Or was it just a Euro thing people in the U.S. never heard about

On second thought, that would be way too cruel. Barry Manilow it is.

I'm not a huge fan, but I don't mind him. Although Copacabanna drives me insane after staying at a hotel in Mexico with the same name...they played the song a couple times a day...for two weeks.

Ha ha!

That's enough to ruin any song, let alone one that's rather annoying to begin with.

"Barry Manilow is not hung like a horse. Horses are hung like Barry Manilow."

Now, THAT is the kind of reputation to have.

As for punishment, I lean towards the physical. Spoiled little morons need to work hard and sweat. No music, no phones, no self-pitying alternative lifestyle role-playing, no support at all.
