My Corolla, still strong after 13 years on the road (she'll be 14 this year, 1995 was a long time ago). Never been in a crash, never gotten a ticket, only a few dings and scratches. I plan on repainting her this summer... she's lost her shine. Under the hood, she's a monster (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/4AGE#4A-GE_.2820-valve.29).

I believe this is the most recent pic I have of my car, a 2002 Hyundai Elantra GT. I took this at a friend's house back in like May. It was dirty, but still looks good in the pic, IMO.

I love my car, but I'd like to trade and get a '99-'04 Mustang GT sometime in the near future.

I've loved Mustangs since I was a kid and have always wanted one.....

But anyway, here's the pic:

My car regularly gets 50mpg and never dips below 45, despite it being a turbocharged, mid-engined, convertible Mercedes-Benz :D

Of course, the engine is an 80bhp 3-cylinder beast but I wouldn't have it any other way. These photos are old but it's far too cold and the car is far too dirty to take some more:

It has heated leather seats and an electric folding soft top (which can operate even at high speed!). I think it's a great car.

The other members on this forum have convinced me somewhat of the benefits of having huge off-road cars (even if they live in cities) but this one is leaving me a bit baffled. The car has massive tyres and wheels and is polished incredibly well, leading me to believe you don't use it off road. It must weigh several tonnes, meaning that it likely gets incredibly poor fuel economy.

The low floor on the car must mean that it can't really go off road at all. So, why would you buy this giant bus if you could have the same amount of interior space in a much better looking and much better handling car which gives much better fuel economy like an Audi A4 Avant or BMW 3-Series Estate?

Well yes offcourse, and yes you are entitled to your own opinion, no problem, but since there was a huge discussion spreading through 3-4 pages in the last car thread, started by you ranting on those who owned big trucks i think that it would be great if this thread could be focused on how fun cars is and what a huge impact those can have on our life, just for fun och for utility purpose.

You probably bought your car because the overall thoughs of the car was to your liking, just like i would by an ML 63 (if i could afford one) just because i like the car, when buying a car everyone doesnt weight in every aspect of the car, the soul of the car could make you want to own one and then fuel consumption or practicallity of a car maybe come on second hand.

Also, there is alot of SUV cars that has a smaller fuel consumtion than a sedan, like MB C63 AMG vs BMW X5 30d, and no environmentalist would ever hate the MB just beacuse is looks just like a regular family saloon, but only the appearence of the X5 would make people go wild, they dont look on the actual fuel consumption, they just asume that if it is a SUV it consumes alot of fuel.

who really cares what anyone drives? I had a 2002 Ford Lightning that was getting 8mpg on premium gas....do you think i used it as an offroad truck? Or how about hauling stuff? Nope i drove it bc i enjoyed it VERY much. Same reason i love my slow Rabbit. Its lower than most cars...which btw is a pain in the butt to drive BUT i love it...bc its mine.

That 370Z is so god damn sexy. My neighbor had one of the first 350Z's and I remember that car so well when he first got it. The 370 is supposed to be a huge improvement.

kinda, nitrogen expands/compresses less than oxygen so less tire pressure loss=better performance/mpg

I want one so bad!
I would be able to get it if it wasn't for the fact that insurance would cost $440 a month. I would get a 15% discount because I make all A's, but still, that's what, $370? It's insane.

I'll probably end up with a 4 door civic or something.

Wow thats a lot for insurance, I'm paying $1,000 AUD / year. The first few quotes ranged from $1,500 to $3,500. They don't like insuring a 21 year old male with a supercharger under the hood :/ .
I was considering a Suburu WRX, though I couldn't find a quote under $3,000! And I've always have loved the Mini. Got some flack from my mates when I bought it... until I took them for a ride through the hills that is ;)

my dad just added me to our insurance and it costs him another $1,000 USD a year, now four drivers on their bill. my mom, my dad, my brother (19 y.o.) and me (16 y.o.), god only knows what the total insurance bill every year is!

So I'm guessing that money must be no object then?

Where I live, fuel was close to US$10/gal last summer, and if I had a car like yours there is no way I could possibly afford to make journeys that I do. I think it would be pretty interesting to see what would happen if this occurred in the USA for a prolonged period.

Maybe it's just me, but I begrudge paying vast amounts of money for a substance which I am literally just going to burn.

The reason I post my pictures here is to find out what people think, good or bad. I don't see what's wrong with showing your distaste for another person's vehicle, criticism which they have invited by posting here. What other possible reason is there for posting pictures of your car here?

It's a discussion forum. It's not a "hey dude that's awesome, so is that and everything is awesome!" rose tinted land - there are going to be disagreements. It's just unfortunate that some people think that someone else's negative opinion of an inanimate object which they own is somehow indicative of a personal dislike or hatred. It isn't!

I was looking at the Smart Roadster (which you forgot to mention in your post :p) a few years back when I moved to Germany.

Well if you still live there, they are very available and actually reasonably affordable now. The reason they sold so badly was because they were priced in the same bracket as traditional small sports cars which had more power, but the used prices have fallen significantly in the past few years.

I merely asked TK B$K why (s)he chose that instead of a BMW or Audi. The missing link in your accusation is my car - I don't have a BMW or Audi, so for him to "live there life by my standards" I would have to have suggested that they get the same car as me. I didn't, I just asked a question.

You'll also note that TK B$K responded in a calm fashion, they didn't take my question to be an insult or some sort of jibe. I don't see why everyone else is so offended by it.

Also, just because I asked a question doesn't mean they have to answer!

The subaru started life as an 02 WRX. I swapped in a JDM STI Version 7 motor (8k rpm and forged internals), transmission (bullet-proof 6-speed), rear diff, brakes and interior. Some minor mods like KW coilover suspension, an exhaust and tune, and some exterior enhancements :). Ended up around 290 whp and was fantastic around the track.

Can you just stop talking.

There are plently of people in the world that do irrational things. Like buying 4wd SUVs when they live in a city in the south, or huge houses with no kids, putting in swimming pools and never using them, etc. My dad drives 150 miles round trip to work every day (why not move closer?). Not everyone is a utilitarian robot focused on productivity and efficiency. Maybe bought an escalade because likes being up high. Maybe he can afford the gas since it's cheaper here. Maybe he has a family to shlep around. Maybe his job or hobbies require a large car. Maybe he likes cars that are reliable and inexpensive to fix than BMW's and Audis. Maybe he just likes them. Maybe he has a house outside of the city he needs to travel to. I absolutely loathe Escalades because they're ugly, expensive, don't have great interiors, and underneath they're just a chevy tahoe/gmc yukon. He's entitled to owning it though. This debate has gone over and over and over again through here.

The reason I post my pictures here is to find out what people think, good or bad.

Ahhhhh, that explains it all. Unlike you I don't give a rat's arse of what people think about me nor what I purchase. I'm not trying to satisfy anyone else.

This is a picture gallery thread for people who want to post pics of their cars, not a thread for discussing the moral choices of car purchasing. For those who feel the need to discuss these matters, then I suggest creating another thread in community discussion. Thanks.

Pardon me if I offended you, clearly that wasn't my intention. He wanted an Escalade therefore he purchased an Escalade. I'm pretty sure if he wanted another type of vehicle he would have purchased it. He shouldn't have to justify his reasoning to anyone on his purchase. You made 2 very good points...the keywords are in italics and bold.

"there is no way I could possibly afford to make journeys that I do."

"Maybe it's just me, but I begrudge paying vast amounts of money for a substance which I am literally just going to burn."

In conclusion, why should he be questioned regarding a purchase he made?

This statement is true. People shouldn't justify what they spend their money one to others. Me personally, my car just got totaled by some jackarse in an 08' Tahoe up here in PDX in the snow. Apparently he thought 4WD works perfectly in ice:(

So i am now going to be riding in style in a new TREK MTB:) I figured i will save a ton of cash and get into shape. I will post pics in a few days when i pick her up! Spending 100K on school, i guess any money saved will help me buy a car this summer...hopefully a G35 (05' or so) or something...

What gets me, though; is when people are all pro environment, yet drive 12 cylinder cars. drives me up the wall:)

A Corsa with lipstick on! My mum had a 54 Corsa and it was an alright car but the interior was very dated. It's a shame that they used the same one on the Tigra.

Incidentally though, I've tried a few cars with steering wheel audio controls and so far the Corsa has been the best in terms of positioning. They're just right and feel great to use.

While I don't agree with the method of taxation (road tax should be collected at the petrol pump, so that those who use their cars more spend more) it would have been nice for me to have some extra money at the moment.

I guess my 96' Discovery is a freak of nature then :p All it's needed in the past 4 months is to have the battery in the remote replaced & reset, which isn't bad considering how often most LRs break down (still love them though!)

Yeah my '00 Seville STS is similar in a way, though I've had a few annoying issues pop up so far in 6 months. There are few cars in the world i'd rather have than mine, even with the issues.

Invidia V3 Downpipe
HKS Up-Pipe
HKS Carbon Ti-Exhaust
APS CAI
Walboro FP
PF Injectors
Perrin Oil-Catch Can

CobbTuning AccessPort
CobbTuning Springs
CobbTuning front and rear Sway bars
Perrin Endlinks
Cusco front and rear strut-bars
Cusco Turbo heatshield

... and a few others

Current Parts on order for future install:

and of course a retune, and a few others.

It's getting a service tomorrow, and I'm not expecting it to be cheap. The one downside of this car is that it is pretty specialised - parts are hidden away in places most mechanics never look, meaning that I want to take it somewhere that they regularly see these cars to get work done.

That place is a Mercedes-Benz dealer, hence the high price :(

I got some pretty bad news when I took my car to the Mercedes-Benz dealer for its service. It needs a new clutch. Yeah, I was shocked too - this is an automatic car which needs a clutch at 32,000 miles

Even worse, it's going to be £600! I don't get it. I don't have any control of the clutch as there is no clutch pedal, yet the component has failed for some reason. I might try to argue my point with them, but I'm already two years beyond the end of the warranty (I bought the car used) so I don't hold out much hope of getting them to cut the price.

I guess I'll just have to pay.

Since when does an automatic has a clutch? I would argue that point and wonder if there screwing. As much as I hate you extremist toward drivers and there cars. I do like your car, if I could afford two cars. I would have that as an everyday car, but that's not possible for allot of people. Because they don't sell it here, or could afford the cost of two cars.

It handles great. I've not driven the fortwo, but I hear it pales in comparison to the roadster. I recall Top Gear describing the handling of the old fortwo as being "one of the worst we've ever driven". The US version of the fortwo has a bigger engine (1L vs 698cc), but because the roadster is turbocharged it gets to 60 quicker.

I don't really have much experience of cars which handle well - but I do know that this car is markedly better than the cars I was driving before (Fiat Punto, Ford Fiesta and Vauxhall Corsa).

Well the car body is red everywhere except the bonnet. It seems odd to have one panel in black and the rest in red, I think it would look much better if it was all red.

Bonnet = hood SVT. ;)

Oooohhh. Thanks ;)
Funny how things can get lost in translation. At least I know "Boot" = Trunk here in the states LOL.

The hood is Carbon Fiber and here in the states, It's almost a sin to paint CF hoods as that hides the woven fabric and will diminish the quality and luster as it shines in the sun or under lights at night. If you ever seen carbon fiber in person, you'd understand that point-of-view too ;)

BTW, the car is Orange. I didn't use a very good camera though :(

I'm putting a CF hood on my NSX next month, and I'm definitely going to paint it the same color as the car before it goes on. IMO bare CF on a street car, especially overlay, is poser material.

Sorry to be a long time coming back.

I drove a one of the new Corsa's, the SXi for 3 weeks just before I got my Tigra. Although the Tigra is based on the Corsa chassis, it's nothing like it to drive. The suspension on the SXi (different from the rest of the range) was so hard it upset my stomach and there were far to many of the small driving actions made automatic, each with their own peep sound and it drove me crackers! The Tigra has a much nicer feel inside, not at all clunky. The seats are really comfortable, as is the suspension, and it seems to wrap around you nicely when you're in it. Not for everyone, but I like it! :)

I had it since I was in my early 20's. The Novelty had worn off, I had to pay for a wedding... It didn't really get driven all that much anymore so it was just it's time.

Man, that thing is CLEAN! What year is it? My Dad bought a '96 GT brand new when they first came out. Pacific Green Metallic. Coupe, 5 Speed. He didn't think it was fast enough. :p

I thought it was awesome, though, and plenty quick enough. Also, he never modded it or anything when he had it and I can remember the stock exhaust sounding really good. Man, I loved that car. :)

It's a 97 and I just turned over 99k. Mine is still stock but hopefully one day I'll do an engine swap once I get another DD and save up some money.

The funny thing is that Americans say they 'need' these massive, powerful cars but for many of them, the roads are perfectly straight and have multiple lanes. There's no need for a 3L engine when you're turning no corners.

Surely, following their logic it should be the Europeans who have the giant engines to compensate for all the time spent slowing down on twisty roads and accelerating again?

The largest issue is the the United States is one giant open field compared to Europe. There are many many more cities in Europe, and they are much closer together, so the need for cars in general is lower, and "city" cars are much more suited for this lifestyle. Once that thought has been brought up, now you can ask why lots of us americans want huge cars

Summer + MGB = FTW (Thank you, thank you very much)

I hate this nonsense argument we get from across the Atlantic. Yes, the cities are closer together... so what?

There's a limit to how far ANYONE would drive on a regular basis - if I'm not going to drive over an hour to work then it's likely that my compatriot in North America would be the same. Whether the cities are closer together has nothing to do with it.

Even if your argument wasn't nonsense, I still don't see why you think that more driving means you need a bigger car. A more comfortable car, maybe, but that doesn't mean it has to be bigger or have a bigger engine.

God, I get so sick of hearing people bitch about what OTHER PEOPLE drive. Americans like big, gas guzzling SUV's. So what? Myself, I'm not an SUV or truck person at all, but if someone else is, that is THEIR business. If they wanna buy a $60,000 Escalade, put 26" spinners on it and never take it off paved roads, more power to 'em. They are spending their own money to buy something they enjoy.

Myself, I plan on buying a Mustang GT as my next car. A gas guzzling V8.

I don't drive that many miles a year. Probably 5,000, give or take a few, so it's not a huge deal to me to have to pay for the gas.

I'm really not trying to be an ass here or anything and I know this is a forum where everyone can express their opinion, but it is just getting really redundant. If you don't like someone else's vehicle, just remember that you're not the one that's driving it.
