View Full Version : Do you need an iPhone to submit an app?

Simple question: To register as a developer and the publish apps to the app store - is having an iPhone a requirement? I know it's best to have one because you can test it out on the actual device and hook it up to instruments - but is it needed?

No, there is no hard requirement, but you'll have absolutely no idea how the software will perform on a real device if you do all your testing on a Mac. The phone can perform much, much slower than the simulator does on a Mac...

Thanks for the quick reply! Can you not use ad-hoc distribution to test on someone else's iPhone?

Probably best to just eBay a cheap iPod Touch, unless the app is phone related of course in which case you will need an iPhone.

If you have a friend willing to let you do that you could just add their phone to your developer account and provision it for testing...

Another quickie, how much does it cost in the UK? I know it's $99 in the US but I've done an online search and can't find the UK price?
