My 30" is normally on my Mac Pro, but took it for a test drive on my MacBook Pro today before ordering a 2nd 30".

I have that same stand for my MBP. I actually really love it. My only problem is operating the SuperDrive and Remote at the same time. The two little black things that stick up need to cover one.

My iBook G4 ^^.. still lovin' it

Still using this iBook G4 at work... typing on it now. We sold my old iBook G4 to a friend and then I took my wife's iBook G4 and gave her my MacBook. Yea I know I got the short end of that stick, but I also got a new iMac out of the deal :D

Then I built a Hackintosh and made the iMac unofficially the wife's.

I love my iMac to bits but if I knew when I bought it what I know now - I would have got a macbook :D

I don't really need one ie I don't travel or go out much but so often I sit down stairs watching tv and want to do some work or your check my email and I want to use my Mac which is upstairs. I thought the windows laptop downstairs would do the job but windows just doesn't cut for me any more

Maybe a macbook air would do the job - I may have to treat myself when budget allows but boy I want an more portable option now ;) I guess both is the best of all worlds but it seems sometimes a bit OTT if you know what I mean :o

I have two of those stands (used to have two laptops). They're OK but I wish I had bought the LX stand instead. IMO these NeoFlex stands cheapen the Ergotron name. On the other hand, they were cheap--I got them both for $60 ($30/ea).

I guess if you slide the laptop "too far" to the right both the remote & the optical are exposed--I never use either one of them, so I guess I hadn't noticed that.

Today I set-up my 2nd 30" monitor. I now have 9920 x 1600 on my Mac Pro; I have a dual-link DVI KVM to switch the middle 30" with the MacBook Pro. I originally ordered the 2nd 30" for the MacBook Pro, no KVM planned, but I thought I'd give it a shot and see how I liked having a 9920 x 1600 desktop, as well as not needing a 2nd keyboard/mouse.

Pictures are click-able.

I am not quite sure if I will keep it like this or split the systems back up and bring back a 24" or 19" for the 6 monitor system. 108" of monitor width is really wide, but I do enjoy having more than 1 non-portrait screen. It will take a few weeks to sort out.

Great span, I love it. I would let it rest awhile and see how you like it.
I would think the only way i would split them up was if I needed to have one separate system to run Windows on for one or two apps and then I would also tend to have that extra keyboard/mouse for that system only. It may make life easier for that type of use.

Anyway very nice setup it's just gorgeous no matter how you have it set up.

Yeah, I finally got off my butt and hooked up the KVM today. It's pretty good.

It's definitely nice to be a bit de-cluttered--I am glad I sold the 24" iMac and decommissioned some of the other gear for now.

All of the monitors are on the Mac Pro, the Windows you saw were just VMs. The middle monitor is on a KVM between the Mac Pro & MBP. Gang of ESX servers in the closet.

I had some time between meetings today to clean up some; here's a newer picture:

Yeah, I can see the utility in that--however, for now it is what it is. :-) I really like portrait mode screens but some tools prefer landscape. Code editing and terminals / debuggers still win for portrait mode.

I originally did 2x20 portraits over 1x30s for the $1000 price tag savings, and hey, I just like portrait mode.

Sadly, I doubt the re-sell value for the 20" monitors is much. I am having trouble getting rid of the old 24" display on Craigslist.

Haha. They are pretty big.
I bought them in store, and I didn't realize, but smaller ones were also inside the big ones (I was wondering why they were so heavy), so I'm using one as a vase, haha.

I like the ones I have up there. Elegant looking to me.

Oh, and for your thread that you linked.
I would personally get both. The lamps for on top of the desk, and the strip for underdesk lighting. I have underdesk lighting with these LED pods from IKEA, and it looks pretty cool.

Nothing fancy really, from the left:

2.0 ghz Alu Macbook and a 250gb LaCie brick external drive. next comes a cheap-ass 19" monitor, connected to the macbook and macally keyboard (like it better than the apple once actually, from a ergonomical point of view). Then comes my MacMini 1.6 Ghz that currently serves only as wireless "router" when i want to sit somewhere else and use the webz (thats what i tell my gf anyway, the truth is i don't want to part with it even tho i hardly ever use it). On top of that lays an ipod mini, in my humble and poor opinion the best looking ipod ever, and yes, that's a Microsoft mouse, but i've gotten use to the model and its dirt cheap wich means i can have an extra in school and at work instead of carrying one around.

Updated slightly.

Below desk is a Herman Miller Scooter (http://www.amazon.com/Scooter-Stand-Ebony-Herman-Miller/dp/B000LT9HIQ) that I use for my Wacom tablet. It's adjustable in height and angle, making drawing easier.

Pictured is my 17" (classic) MBP, Dell 24" ultrasharp monitor, Sennheiser 555 headphones, PS3 controller charger, Sony E-book reader, M-Audio Studiophile DX4's, Logitech surround speaker (from my gaming center on the opposite side of the room), Ikea Grono lamp, G-tech FW800 drive, and a Chumby.

I love the Rain Design stand, and was delighted to realize it works nicely with the 17" MBP's. :) (sorry for crappy photo's, I'm still learning)

Okay I dont want to get smash by the color people so sorry to those people.

It is a great monitor. I hook up everything to it. However watch out for the spec changes from FHD2400 to FHD2401 for the 24" and HD2200 to HD2201 for the 22". I believe they remove component input, svideo and usb hub.

However if your a color person, do not get this because it is a TN and not your speical IPS, etc etc monitor.

Sorry for the rant geekindisguise, but lots of people here are IPS monitor people.

I have underdesk lighting with these LED pods from IKEA, and it looks pretty cool.

cool thanks a lot for the reply :)

moving "outside the box"...missed the sound of real keyboards.

at this time the g4 is just collecting dust...may turn it into a machine to run all the VI's that didn't make the UB transition such as trilogy/atmoshere.

I'm sure he has more than enough money to upgrade to whatever OS he wants. He probably doesn't care about the latest and greatest computer, just that it helps get his work done. If he's using Tiger and an old MBP, I'm sure it's still good on sending e-mail and browsing the web.

The cork board on the wall is this...

http://supermarkethq.com/product/dreamgate-wall-art-headboard

The deskpad is Ikea. I like how it has the ledge that goes along the ledge of the table so it doesn't move.

The Griffin Simplifi works good so far. I've used to read my CF cards from my camera and docked my iPod. The iPhone dock is connected to 1 of the 2 usb ports on the back of it and it is working as well.

The desk isn't Ikea. I liked the Galant styling but I still wanted solid wood. So I found this..

http://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden/Sorrento-Dining-Table/1444903/product.html

It's actually a dining table made of solid rubber wood and decently priced. It's large/deep enough for what I wanted to.

Also from Ikea I added the wire manager/organizer underneath to it.

Ah, I guess the fact it wasn't turned on and had no :apple: indicators on it wasn't too obvious to me. And there are numerous "hacks" you can perform on PCs that has nothing to do with running a Mac OS.
Hope it's running good for you! I would be too afraid of incompatibility down the line. :o

Actually yeah! Haha. It was made by a couple of students at Berkeley as their final project. It was given to my brother but he has a place large enough for a full sized desk. Our studio apartment on the other hand is perfectly suited for it, as you can see.

Never heard that steel was anodizable.

Awesome desk by the way! Kinda my dream setup, it just need two 30' to complete it.

I called around a couple of metal shops awhile back and they assured me it was. I'm taking them at their word though. If you know something I don't please share. ;)

Can also fold the Cintiq down and slide it under the shelf when I don't need or want it.

Does size matter for the Cintiq? I do some basic stuff and im lookin at the Cintiq 12WX. I already have a Intuos 6x11.

That's what Frys' 30 day return policy is for. :)

I bought the 12WX first and used it for 28 days. Returned it. Repurchased it. Used it another 28 days. Decided it was too small. Returned it. Purchased the 21UX. Used it for a couple weeks and noticed the screen didn't look very crisp and not as bright as I had expected. Looked up some reviews. Turns out the 20WSX is generally better all around in those respects. Returned the 21UX. Bought the 20WSX. Returned it 28 days later. Did that like 3 more times. (Still wasn't sure if I wanted the $2k or the display more. :P) Then finally kept it.

<3 Fry's. :)

This is my set up, although its a bit ugly looking since i am cramped for space in my university room.

http://macrumours.forums.media.carlosbutler.com/setup/DSC02242.JPG

From left to right:
Samsung 720p/1080i TV connected to iMac and PS3
A PS3 with playTV, 2 controllers, about 12 games and a logitech g25 steering wheel
Bose Companion 5
iPod nano 8GB and iPod (one before 'classic') 80GB
24" iMac top end with wireless mouse and logitech mx revo mouse
brand new MBP 15" top end (well not with that stupid SSD overpriced thing)
ethernet/wireless HP printer C6280

it looked a lot nicer at home since i had more space, but uni is a bit cramped. well its cramped with all this stuff anyways. was planning on getting those LED light strips from IKEA, next year when i move into a bigger place, ie big house between three people:D

How are you finding the Bose Companion 5's? worth the money? Pros cons?

How are you finding the Bose Companion 5's? worth the money? Pros cons?

certainly worth the money. even though i got a 10% discount because i work at comet, i would have paid for the full price. the cons are that you can only have two inputs (one through USB (from iMac) and one from 3.5mm jack (from TV/PS3)) but its quite good because it manages to mix both signals, so i can be playing a PS3 game and listen to music from iTunes at the same time. also it is sometimes a bit basey...

apart from that they sound great. they are very good for movies and games as they spread the sound out at a large angle, but more importantly sound very good for music. obviously the low sound is excellent, as well as very good mid-range sounds. if you listen to some very high music it is ok, but you are able to get better sound from other systems (then again you are able to spend literally thousands more on other systems).

i have moved them around from place to place, used the sub woofer as a foot rest, bashed them about when the sub woofer was on the floor (with the chair and shoes) and everything still works. nothing has fallen off, nothing looks at all old. the quality of the materials used as well is very good and the metal components feel very sturdy.

the subwoofer 'problem' could just be because (as seen in the picture) i have the subwoofer between my TV which is placed in the corner and the wall. so sound just bounces all over the place which is not good.

defiantly worth 315/280...

Interesting that you can mix the signals from both inputs... what my TV doesn't do when i wished it would :P

You could always have a jack splitter and have multiple inputs in the 3.5mm jack if you wanted more.

Do all the input cables go into the sub and how big is it?

Nice room btw, a lot of money spent there :P

It's pretty good, although the mouse settings were awful when it came to sensitivity under System Preference's default options, so I had to download the drivers or whatever they are called from Microsoft's site. But I can't for the life of me get the customized programing for the side button or scroll wheel button to work, which does make me a little upset. But otherwise it is a great mouse, I for one like the feedback from the scroll wheel.

This mouse is great and the receiver is absolutely tiny and fits into the keyboard's outlet and is completely hidden underneath the keyboard, which was the one thing that I was worried about, because I wasn't sure the keyboard would be able to power it and I wanted it hidden.

But I highly recommend this mouse for anybody that is looking for one, well worth the price.

Well. Not really. It's basically two displays hooked up to ONE computer. So for example you can have the iTunes window open on your laptop screen and some movie editing software window on your big screen. It just gives you more screen real estate!

Thanks Sn00pie! It's the Ikea Galant desk. I have the main top piece (when I'm sitting it's longest on right side) then I have the straight legs (they have two different leg styles) and then a half circle addon to the left side to extend it a bit more.

As for the File Cabinet it's also in the Galant series, one main drawer with insert for pens, other little cubicles, and then in the filing cabinet area there are two drawers which I keep cables, hard drivers, headphones, etc in and then filing cabinet on the bottom.

Lol, sorry. I was bored when I got home form my mates 18th and didn't want to go bed so I stayed up till like 7am... then bed for an hour now I've got to go with my friend to a life saving course.

I think the Macbook pros a bit heavy and big to carry around with me every day. But I would get so much more with an iMac for 1000 or even the bottom of the line Mac Pro.

To be honest, as far as it goes here in the states the standard in architecture is AutoCAD. Last I checked Autodesk has no intentions of releasing this on a Mac. They had discussed it and hired a developer more than 5 years ago (when I inquired) but never seemed to get there. If I were going back to school to finish a degree in Architecture I would ensure that the school was going to use an application that ran natively on my computer. The unfortunate aspect of this all is you're at the mercy of your University.

Yes, I am aware you can run windows on a Mac, but if my primary focus was school (and it will be in an architecture program) then I would buy a computer that runs the application as smooth as possible. I'm sure the MBP can handle it but the MacPro or the higher end iMac would handle it much better. Just keep that in mind and you may want to ask your Professors before you shell out a load of cash on a Mac and find out it is worthless to you in the long run.

Most new TV's over $700 have a port for connecting your computer to it.

Just go into your local electronics store and tell them what you need.

Ya, that would be it, haha. I think it has been mentioned on every other page in this thread already. The was one post in a past thread where the questioned was asked and answered 3 times after the post. Was it that hard for people to read the responses to a post to see that their question had been asked and answered?

And there isn't anything great about it, it is just amazingly popular, I used it for a few months and got bored of it. It is just that there is always somebody who doesn't have enough energy to go to google or mroogle and type in the search...

I just turn my screen off for a screensaver. It is a true screen"saver". I love all the PowerBook setups because I have one. I think that some of the pictures on this thread are better looking than the ones on Apple. One thing I have to recommend is to turn the flash off when taking pictures of old style MBP's and PowerBook Alu's so you do not get a keyboard with horizontal lines on it. Plus the flash makes glare spots on the screen.
