I downloaded a BT firmware updater from apple's software update. I'm running it on my 12" rev. B PB. It says it can take up to 15 minutes. But right now it's been 20 minutes and it still says "preparing to update device" (the screen hasn't changed). This happened when I tried to run the bluetooth firmware off of the CD that came with my Apple BT keyboard, too.

what is going on here? The firmware updater app just has the perpetual spinning color wheel. It says I can't quit, but I sorta have no choice. It's not making progress. Why does this keep happening? do I even need this update?

please help ASAP!

Run a hardware test CD

could be a busted BT module.

ok, will do... but my BT mouse and keyboard work fine without the update!

everything is fine on the hardware test.

When I run this, even if I force quit, it stays open. Even if I shut the computer down, the BT and AE icons are gone when it restarts. The only way to get rid of the updater and restore the computer to normal is to hard shut down (hold down power button until it shuts off).

Clearly there's something very wrong here. Any ideas?

Turn off Bluetooth, pull the batteries out of your BT mouse and keyboard, then turn BT back on. THEN run the update.

I had the exact same problem - the updater will lock up if there are active Bluetooth devices being used.

When I updated mine, I put my mouse and keyboard far away, and made sure they were not connected. The update ran fine when I did that.
