I was thinking about a 3.06 Last Gen with 512MB Nvidia GeForce 8800
How does this card fair? is it similar to the Nividia GT 120 or 130? is it able to handle all games at least on low settings? (i.e. crysis, sims 3 etc)

120GT = 9800GT, 9800GT = higher clocked 8800GT. soo judge that for yourself..
will EASILY handle games on low settings, will handle most on high.

I am just trying to decide what mac to get !!
I think i will get a cheap iMac and the 15 Inch 2.66 GHZ 1GB Graphics HP laptop for UNI .... comes to around $3000 .... i think that's the best option for me budget wise.... although for an extra $1500 i can get that 3.06 GHZ iMac! .... don't know ...

Well laptop is for portability at UNI + Game performance and the imac will be just for at home in my UNI room, for browsing, light games, and just light stuff. I really want leopard/mac. I think they are great. its just when you see such a good laptop, you cant ignore it. (1GB Graphics 2.6 GHZ, 640 GB HDD, 4GB DDR3 RAM).
Its just a really good windows laptop (HP) AND a cheap low end iMac. The high end imac will be the same price as both combined .... but still i need a laptop on top of all that.

I love my 3.06 GhZ with the graphics chip. Does everything I want plus I got it for a song.
I cannot complain.

well the iMac will be GREAT for all your needs then apart from gaming (the 9400M isnt a graphics card, just a chip) - its still pretty decent at gaming dont get me wrong. just dont expect to be running the latest games at high settings.
i feel as though you are doubling up.. imac CPU = 2.66GHz and your laptop CPU = 2.6GHz, HD space is halved in the iMac compared to the laptop, RAM is halved, GPU will not match against it at all... are you sure you want to double up??

maybe buy a mac laptop (macbook) and then build a decent high end performing PC - then install Mac OS X leopard on it??? :) ;)

The GT 120 is not as fast as the 8800M GTS and therefore could not equal a 9800M GT. The GT 130 is a bit faster than the 8800M GTS because it is a 9800M GTS.
The 4850 is much faster than all.

Well the desktop GT 120 is a bit faster than the Mobility 2600 in the iMac so I'm guessing the 9600M GT estimate isn't too far off for the iMac GT 120.

Just get a MacBook Pro.
No need to mess around with 2 computers (especially 1 of them being a PC). The MBP's 9600 is about the same as GT120 on iMac.
