Is there any cost efficient way to connect my fire wire to my mac book?
I have the newest macbook and it has the following ports:

-MagSafe power port
-Gigabit Ethernet port
-Two USB 2.0 ports (up to 480 Mbps)
-Mini DisplayPort
-Audio line in
-Audio line out
-Kensington lock slot

(Straight from apple website)

Thanks,

No.

There is no Firewire 400/800 adapter to USB or Ethernet for Mac OS X.

What Firewire devices are you talking about?

You can also use MRoogle (http://mroogle.edesignuk.com/) for looking for similar topics, as this is quite a hot one.

I have an adapter set with FireWire 400 (B, but it's FireWire) to USB.

Sigh. The mythical USB to Firewire "converter" fable raises its ugly head (again).

For the 1,374,394th time: Just making the physical connection between a USB port and a Firewire port via an "adapter set" bought off eBay is not going to (magically) work because USB and Firewire are different protocols, with different voltages, data rates, etc., etc., etc.

I did buy the white MacBook but then when the new one came out I exchanged mine becuase I bought it within 30 days. The only reason I exchanged it was becuase I thought is had the same number of ports. I only realized the lack of a firewire port recently:(

It was a $5 set. Little plug adapters. I'll take a picture, hang on...

Tanj in torment. I can't find my USB-SD card dongle. Sucks; I had a 4GB card in there... Well, it gives me an excuse to get a 32GB card now...

It's not just routing wires.

It's not just routing wires.

Oh, I realize that; I know that you can't use this little thing for every application of FireWire, but it must be usable to SOME extent for it to exist.

They don't convert USB/FireWire AT ALL. They are just plug adapters.

So one can use a Firewire external HDD, but not a camera with a DV/HDV video stream, or what?

You can transform FireWire cables into USB cables.
