View Full Version : Where were you when you made your first post?

I just thought it'd be cool to hear where others were when they made their first post here on MacRumors (http://www.macrumors.com). I remember I first made my first post in December in the Food Court at my college. I was so nervous because it was my first forum too. :o I'm glad I decided to take the plunge. :)
Where were you?

I was sitting on my couch about ready to throw my router out of the window, and then i proceeded to post about how my computer drops internet connection every 2 seconds. One positive thing about this whole ordeal is, i made a new friend :)

It was last night and I was in bed, bored and freezing cold! I had been a MacRumors lurker for the past 2ish years and decided to sign up last week!

Chances are, I was in front of my computer. Back then it was a 12" PB. But my desk has moved 1 foot since then too.

Back in January 2008, as you can clearly see in my profile, in our home office on a crappy Compaq desktop with XP SP2. Since then, said PC has died, I convinced my parents to get an iMac, no one but me understood said Mac, dad paid a few hundred dollars to get the PC resurrected, the office was changed in such a way that the iMac could no longer fit in there, so I moved it into my room and once I got my MBP a couple months back, set it up as a media server.
Wow, a lot has happened since then, but I doubt I'll ever be posting to MR from that room (or that PC :p) ever again.

I was at my old office, which was a 20 ft. underground loud, dark, mess of a place. We've since moved to an above ground, off campus location which is a lot quieter and brighter, but has its drawbacks, too.

Googled "internet while at work." The first result (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/05/02/AR2006050200189.html) says:
"Employees surf the Web at work, checking the weather, making travel plans, and shopping. At home, many send e-mail, continue their work chores on the Internet, and otherwise stay connected with their professional lives."
Ha ha. People don't like to work when they are supposed to and do work when they are supposed to take a rest.

Damn, it's been nearly seven years since I joined.
I don't remember exactly how I found Macrumors (much smaller then), but this was in the relative dark age of Macs, when I had to do a lot of work to coordinate and gain the functionality in some areas that my PC brethren had. Running a small production company at the time, I was always looking for solutions to make my mac(s) do what I needed them to do, either on the interweb, or in audio/visual applications.
I was in Austin TX - and still have (and use) the Pismo I made my first post with. I have also been in the PRSI forum since it's near-inception - though it is now a shadow of what it used to be...

Well I was eater on my iBook G4 or PowerMac G3. If on the G3 I was in a shared room with my (super annoying) brother or if I was on the iBook I could have been at school or anywhere at home. I do not remember which.

I actually had to go look up my first ever post to jog my memory. As others have said, I was at work and on my lunch break. I joined and posted to get help with an issue, but had been coming to Macrumors for quite some time before that. It's truly amazing how addictive it becomes after you take the plunge and start interacting in the forums. For example, I'm posting now, at work, not on my lunch break. :D

I imagine I was at home on Christmas break after my first semester freshman year of high school. Inevitably it was posted from Mac OS 9 on my lovely Lime green G3 iMac DV (an 11th birthday present!). I'm 21 now and a junior in college...

I definitely don't remember, as I've been a member for more than 5 (!) years. But looking at the date, I must be in my dorm back when I was a freshman, at an university about 3,000 miles away from where I am right now. At the time I had an iBook G3 900 MHz. Great notebook.

Well once the morning came she had to go to work and never being much of a morning person I stayed in her bed and slept for a few hours once she had left the house. (There is trust for you). I didn't have a mac back then but had always wanted one. So when I finally woke up, she had told me to "make myself at home, use her pc etc" so I checked my emails on her mac, then moseyed over to MR, ;) :o
