Hi,
i'm really disappointed in apple!
on march i bought a MBA rev:B 1,6ghz base model for 1699 Euros and apple told me now that they'll replace it with the new base model 1,86ghz with 120gb HD which costs 300 Euros less!
that's like a 300 Euro rip off! i thought they would send me the new model for 1699€, since that is how much i paid for the base model in march.

Wirelessly posted (iPhone: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 2_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/525.18.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.1 Mobile/5H11 Safari/525.20)
You won't get it I'm afraid. When Apple replace a product there policy is to replace with the level of model you purchased initially.

Well I hate to sound harsh but that's technology.
You don't hear people complaining about how they got ripped off because hard drives are cheaper and bigger?
If the computer is meeting your needs, I'd not worry about it. I paid 2500 for a 2.53GHz MBP and now people can buy a 2.66Ghz for 500 less then what I paid for my machine. That doesn't diminish the worth of my computer for my needs, I'm content with what I have.

You do realize they're replacing it with a faster machine. They could have easily found you a 1.6 they had lying around. Yeah Apple is really screwing you.

Really, I think you should look at the positive. You get a much nicer CPU. I am surprised they didn't give you a refurbished same 1.6 GHz CPU. Tech prices suck big time when they drop... and it rarely happens to this extent with Apple. Can you imagine buying a rev B MBA for $2499 16 days ago??? 16 days later a 2.13 GHz, slightly better battery, and ethernet cable included with SSD for $700 LESS!!! That would really make me feel bad for MY OWN DECISION TO BUY WHEN I DID. This is what happens when you don't buy right when a product is announced from Apple.
Sorry for you though... it would have been a nice upgrade to SSD and 2.13 GHz for the same price. Better luck next time. At least you get brand new and faster CPU???

Yes, you really should complain until Apple replaces the unit out of the new stock and with the same exact machine you currently have -- or wait for them to find a refurb.
Demand your rights to the exact machine you paid for.
No sense in wasting your hard earned dollars on a cheaper and better machine.
Demand the old machine...

And it especially sucks that Apple is giving you an Air with a better battery.

the thing is this, that i paid o much money for machine that was defect! and now i'm supposed to accept a machine for 300 euros less!
why can't they replace the machine for the price that i bought my machine? i'm really disappointed. i wish i just would have bought a refurbished machine, which only costs 1429 euros. in that case i would not be complaining about the replacement, but i paid 1699 euros for a defect machine and now i'm supposed to accept a machine that is 300 euros cheaper! :(

I still don't get what your problem is. You bought a MBA, it was faulty, Apple replaced it with a better version, that just happens to be cheaper to buy now? So????? You get a better MBA than you paid for.

Would you be happier if they gave you a replacement 1.6 Rev B? Technically they still cost 1699.
Or how about your machine never developed a flaw and you kept on using a 1.6 instead of a 1.8.
Most people don't get free upgrades and you're complaining that you are getting one.
If I were you I'd try cut a deal on the SSD model instead of just getting the 1.8. Then again it might cost a little more so I don't think you'd be happy.
To sum up, selling your 1.6 and buying a new 1.8 would cost considerably more than the free upgrade you are getting.

maybe i would feel bad for you if you had purchased it recently, but you've had it since march. get over it.

This is a pretty dumb thread. You shouldn't expect to get back money from something you purchased 3 months ago.

Apple updated the refurb store, and your machine is now $1199. If you paid $1999 you'd have been shafted for $800 instead of only $300. Apple did you a favor. :)

i did not use the machine for 3 months!
i bought it in middle of march and after 3 weeks since now it has been by Apple! i only used it for max. 3 weeks! and i paid the full price for it which was here in germany 1699 euros :(
that's the reason why i'm complaining

We do understand what you're saying and why you are so upset. But that's just not how it works.
I am in a similar situation. I bought an 8GB iPhone a month ago for $199. The battery totally sucks on it more than normal. So I should go to the Genius bar and have them swap it out. The problem is, I know that I'm going to get a refurb. one which costs $99 new after yesterdays announcement. I paid for a new one and I want to keep a new one. But I don't expect them to replace it with a 16GB (or a GS if I go after next friday) just because the price has dropped.

Actually, since A is still selling the 8GB 3G you'll still get one of those.

You're obviously getting no sympathy form us, so try Apple. Call customer service.
PS. I do understand your frustration, but I think you're being ridiculous since you are getting a free upgrade to a faster processor and better battery.

I have a high-end Air since the end of March.
It used to cost $2,499. It now costs $1,799. So Apple owes me $700? I wish.

You better hope they don't replace yours with the 2.13, that would suck.

I've got a MBA 1.6 that I'll trade you when you get your 1.8. I'll even throw in the AppleCare for free. That way you get the SAME computer that you bought.
Once you start talking about replacements, the price you paid for it doesn't matter. Its a REPLACEMENT! If Apple saw this tread, they might just go dig up a 1.6 for you instead of replacing it with something better than what you had.

This Dude is annoying me. Why don't you get a shopping cart and live in a ally. You can avoid problems such as this. Or talk to bill gates and tell him to stop all inovation.
If anything you got ****** model... I bought the 1.86 ssd model in December for 2400 and you don't hear me complaining.

Yes, I used to work at the Apple store, so I know how it works. But that was my point. I was trying to compare my situation in a similar manner to the OP. I know that it's Apple's policy is to issue replacements with a comparable machine whenever possible, not a comparable original purchase price. We all hear these fantastic stories about someone getting a brand new MacBook Pro as a PowerBook or MacBook replacement, but these stories are statistical outliers, and not the norm.
I'm not at all complaining about the price drop for the 8GB, nor the fact that the 16GB 3GS is the same price I paid for mine. I had a good idea of what was going to happen yesterday, but I was going out of town and having the iPhone with me was well worth that extra $100.
The only reason that I even said it was a problem to me was that I was up in the air between buying new or refurbished. I decided to buy new and paid for new. However, if I take it in for service, it would be replaced with a refurbished. If I had been able to buy a refurbished (couldn't because of ATT) I would be fine with getting a refurbished replacement. That's the part that I'm aggravated about.
It might seem confusing, but I assure you, it's cool. It makes sense in my head and that's all that matters. :p

I am in the not so enviable position of being one of the nitwits who purchased a MBA slightly more than 14 days before yesterday. The manager of the local apple store will have 2.13 MBA for me to exchange for my 18 day old 1.86 MBA tomorrow. I will have to pay a 10% restocking fee, so I lose about $200 of my $700 savings but I still get a faster machine and end up $500 or so ahead. Sort of sucks, but I bought it knowing an update was possible at any time, just didn't expect it so soon, and I had a big week of travel week before last during which the MBA was sweet (I know I'm rationalizing).

so this is the new status:
Apple agreed to give me the MBA 2,13ghz, all i have to do is pay 299€ difference, which i find ok, since they also gave me a airport base station for free! :D
so i only paid 200€ for a slight better CPU and for the SSD ;)

was this something they agreed to when you bought? cause how would they know they were coming out with a newer one? did you have replacements or how did you accomplish this?
I have a similar issue where I bought your same model and would love to pay the difference to get into the newer one....what would I need to do?

well they offered me the replacement, they did not know that Apple would bring out new MBA's at that time. they told me that it would take longer...
so i waited and then on Monday the new MBA's came out, so i called apple and asked :)
that's when they told me that i was lucky and they would give me the new MBA base model. to cut the story short, i asked if it were possible to get the high end model and the supervising manager said yes, all i have to do is pay the difference he said + i got the airport base station for free :D

I have a similar issue where I bought a rev A off of Ebay 1 year ago and I would love to pay the difference to get the new air tomorrow too. (for anyone who can't tell, this is sarcasm).
You buy what you buy at a point in time, unless you keep it in the original box for the 14 days or you have had multiple issues where it is cheaper for apple to replace then continue to fix, apple should tell you to take a flying leap. Customer service is one thing - they are amazing for support of defects, issues and problems, ripping a company off (and wasting apple staff time) because of the timing of your purchase (that you were very happy with when you bought it) is another.
