View Full Version : New lifestyle device too?

galopagos
Jul 7, 2002, 10:36 PM
In addition to the video clip (which my apple friend has verified for me) of the new g4 case enclosure, my apple friend has since sent me another set of four quicktime single frames from the promotional video their working on for the next lifestyle device.

She didnt send me a device name or description, but "tempted my senses" with the following images (attached below).

My question: Is this apple friend o' mine giving me a blacklisted backstage pass, or is the Apple staff getting phoroshop happy and spreading disinformation to screw with the rumormongers' heads? I have no reason to think this person is lying, but what is Apple is actually getting serious on protecting their secrets after the time magazine canada imac flop?

Oh this is insanely cruel! I can't tell what it is!!!!! It appears to have something to do with photography since it's sync-ing with iPhoto. Is this the digital picture frame? Or maybe a new Apple branded Camera? That would be SWEET!

What movie of the new G4 enclosures? Where can I see it !!!!! PLEASE!!!! :( :D

This looks VERY Photoshopped to me. Why shoul Apple bring a device with USB AND Firewire? Wheres the point in that?

And btw it cant be a digital camera, it looks too thin for that - so where is the connection to iPhoto anyway...

Thats a fake, obvious.

I think they're just referring to the pic that was part of a video clip... He/She posted a thread in the "News Discussion" forum that had a still image taken from a piece of video that is supposed to be of one of the new towers coming at MWNY. They didn't post the actual clip or did it sound like they even had it. I think they just had the jpeg. Go check it out. And anyway, what are these pictures supposed to be? All I see is the iBook. I don't get it.

well according to the apple chick, this is the video clip that is ready for posting to the akamai servers once the jobs keynote is complete. she wouldnt tell me much other than that.

i've looked at the videos of the ipod and the new imac, and i recognise the guy in the video clip (Philip, world marketing for apple), but it doesnt look like a still from either video...

This looks like NOTHING , nothing at all!

Much like the single photo from a video of a g4 enclosure that was photoshoped and posted.

This new thread is even less....

I think that someone is trying to spark things up with a little fake rumors..

Now , I dont think that its such a bad idea to do that, but for gods sake man.

Could you do it a little better than this!

If you friend gave you a video or you have seen it or he has told you about it, then what is all this lack of information and proper visual....?

maybe that's the new device! a biomechanical socket-mounted digital camera...you just blink and it takes a snapshot! then you plug into the USB port, which used to be your belly button, and upload the images into iPhoto. sounds cool. i think they should call it the "iEye".

Perhaps there will be a new/different version of the iPod that will allow the user to download their digital images to its hard drive. I have a feeling that the iPod is going to be much more than an MP3 player (after all, it is not just called iListen). Just my 2 cents,

I'd say this is for real, folks. I've looked through ALL of Apple's promo videos since the TiBook and have come to this conclusion. This is for a few reasons:

- Phil Schiller NEVER wears that color shirt with that kind of collar. Neither. It is always different.

- The USB/FireWire thing...well, it may be for use with (gasp) PeeCees? This is real because it is thinner than the iPod (judging from the size of the FW port) and has rounded ends, whereas the iPod is sharp from that angle.

- There has never been a promo video with an iBook and iPhoto

- The fourth image has Apple's dock, which has brighter, more rich colors than the real Dock. For example, it's in the iMac print ads. The iTunes icon is nicer and the System Prefs one (not visible here) is too.

I'd say it is for real.

Where is Phil? Judging from the ceiling behind him, he's at the Expo. I'm looking forward to this!

Jul 8, 2002, 01:38 AM
I'm actually intrigued by the upper right image. It looks like it could be real. I don't know of any current Apple product that has a firewire port set on a polished metal surface.

But if this rumor is legit, then I'm disappointed b/c I don't care to see an Apple-branded digital camera or photo frame. If all it does is sync with iPhoto, what's the point? Most digital cameras already do that.

I want more.

Many digital cameras only have USB outs, so that might be the reason for both FW and USB...download from digital camera and plug into ibook later.

yeah, i noticed this too. i don't remeber Apple ever using an hourglass before. Then it hit me, the Windows mouse thing! We have a beachball or a watch, and they have an hourglass. Perhaps this will be a Windows compatible device? i hope not but who knows? maybe they will start making the iApps available for Windows as free downloads, like Quicktime. Maybe to entice potential "switchers"? i'm guessing obviously, but that's the best i could come up with.

my 2 cents

1. the pics look real

2. the sequence makes sense.

shot 1: phil (wow, i feel like i know him reading everyone's posts) introduces a new product.

shot 2: close up on product
(camera, iwalk, photoframe -- eeeeergh! )

shot 3: plug it in

shot 4: synchronize with your favourite digital photo app

3. i doubt very much that anyone could make a digital photoframe that i'd want. i mean, why would you want one? yuck. a tacky waste of money. apple make functional stuff and a photoframe is not functional. a slimline camera is.
also, who would put firewire on a photoframe? unless it had a decent hard drive

I am glad I am not the only one here with some sense. Too bad it takes a newbie poster to keep it real since everyone else has been pulled in my the dark side of phony rumours.

I remember once I tried to pay out a few people on here by saying I was friends with Jobs and he had a G6 in a G4 case and the G5 was being released blah blah blah. There were people who took me for real. You can tell people here ANYTHING and they will believe it.

If you will recall MacRumors posted a rumor saying that Apple was to add to there Digital Lifestyle Devices with a Digital Picture Frame. Note that this is of perfect size. The iPhoto shot is in slideshow mode enabling the user to view his slideshow. It is USB/Firewire compatible. Sounds good to me.

Yep, they're fake. I salute those who magnified the images, compared them to previous videos and yes, even the guy who set up his OWN HOMEPAGE to disprove my images. Kudos dude, we're on the same time-wasting pier.

As for how, well check the other dude's homepage for the major details... as for the small things that were overlooked:

1) Philip's shirt was color-changed in photoshop, with some minor alterations with the healing brush to remove an extra button on the neckline, and some of the wrinkles to prevent it from being immediately identified from the ipod video (all the frames came from the ipod video)

2) The background was from a web site promoting backdrop designs (i dont remember which, i did a google search for 'photographer backdrop' or something to find it)

3) Image if altered ipod WAS just as the other guy said, with a USB connector photographed from my iMac keyboard. Good job by the way on uncovering this one!

4) The imac as well, kudos on the uncovering of this.

5) The hand connecting the cable from the ipod to the ibook was exactly from an ipod movie frame. I rotated the hand a bit and removed wrinkles from the thumb to prevent people from immediately identifying it.

In all, I was impressed on how serious this was taken. It made the front of macrumors, which is validation enough for me. :-)

Also, this should serve as a reminder to those who feel that providing press credentials to rumor sites will in no way deter apple's ability to keep a secret. There will always be guys like me with too much time, photoshop, and a willingness to see how gullible users get near macworld time. Iwalks, titanium towers, even quark os x betas aside.

Again, thanks for the fun. I'm sure others will crop up soon. This iShake looks too iMovie to me, for example. I know apple just bought this program over a month ago, and now we see a beta that is more aquafied than final cut pro? Oh yeah, we all could be making twice our current salaries if we put these talents to more productive uses.

Finally, just remember: we all love Apple. Have fun.

Can anyone make out the text next to the camera icon in iPhoto? You know, the area where it usually states what make/model camera is connected and how many photos it contains?

Folks, let's get this Philip Schiller thing straight. During the time of the iBook 500, he was the Vice President of Worldwide Product Marketing within Apple. I'm not too sure if he still is.

For the guy who said iPhoto and the iBook have never been promoed together, the iBook is what the iPhoto commercial CENTERED around. duh. i say this looks mighty real, altho it also seems somewhat easy to design something white and then put three apple things around it. theres power in threes. good job on the fake.

Easy, big guy. I think around the time of expos everyone starts making these crazy predictions and unusual rumors, thinking that he/she may be right. And, as Gelfin suggested elsewhere, these people try to use ad hog reasoning to prove them right, when we all try to prove them wrong. Those that prove them wrong are the sane folk! :D Just kidding...

I have a feeling you aren't alone, tjwett, and I have three explanations why. The first is because of al the iWalk rumors that have been spreading about, along with fake pictures (and some excellent mock-ups). The second would be all these people with "dreamland" posts, such as 5GHz G5s, or THz processors, or "...and one more thing,..." expected responses by SJ about some ridiculous rumor.

The third may seem less obvious...but have you noticed how many guests have been coming to the boards lately? It seems to be that there is an avg. of about 30 to 40 members, and around 200 guests. The server even F'ed up on me a couple of times, saying it was busy. I still can't imagine what the servers are going to be like in a week or so.

1) The 'bad' g4 case took 35 minutes, mostly through searching google for images (i was trying for a white keyboard i could fit in)

2) The Philip video clips took 30 minutes, and very little effort with the healing brush to convince several here.

Maybe it has something to do with the PDA Apple is trying to get produced in Taiwan - here is the quote:

"Separately, Apple is seeking production of personal digital assistants (PDAs) and some computer peripherals, such as its wireless communications access points, namely airports, in Taiwan. The new acquisition of Apple's eMac order by Hon Hai further shows that Taiwan's IT companies have won high profiles in Apple's contract-making policy."
